Celtic face higher than body temps in Armenia

288

While the World Cup is a nice summer distraction, the serious business of Champions League qualification gets underway for Celtic one week tomorrow.  Right now, the temperature in Yerevan, Armenia, where we will face Alashkert, is an egg-frying-on-the-patio 38°C.  It’s to be higher-still at 7pm.

Brendan Rodgers may consider it wise to send his players out to pace themselves for the first 89 minutes or so.  Playing in heat warmer than body temperature is not something you can acclimatise to in a few days.   PLayers’ bodies will react in a way they will seldom, if ever, have experienced before.  I would bite your hand off for a draw and no remedial medical attention required.

Best of luck to Dedryck for Belgium’s round of 16 tie against Japan tonight, although I’m beginning to cross-reference World Cup Champions League dates.  You would not bet against Belgium remaining involved until the last weekend.

  1. I am 68 and completed a 10 mile hike in nearly 30deg heat today – mind you I feel knackered

I’m sure you are fine :-)

I can’t help but think it’s getting the excuses in early, our players are athletes, they are supposed to be the cream, I also bang on every close season about the other excuse of getting the players fit, FFS they have had a couple of weeks off, during the season they often have a few weeks off due to niggles and the like, we never hear the same excuse during the season, they should be 100% at all times, they get paid enough to be in tip top condition at all times, excuses to lose shouldn’t be in the mindset.

Was listening to the commentary on the world cup. Guy said to the gardener, whats it like to play against Brazil like he did in 1998. Salary talks about great bit of your career. I thought hold on you were not in the squad. Had to Google it for confirmation, what a plonker

Hate to defend Sally, but I think that the commentator asked him about the game in Turin in 1990.

  5. Professional fitba players having to play in temperatures of 38 degrees?!

That’s about 100 in auld money!

    100.4 in fact!

    I’m sure they will manage.

Neymar’s goal got a round of applause in the wee beach bar. That I’m dying performance saw people jeering /laughing.I remember Blair Peach “having an unusually thin skull.” Maybe Neymar has particularly sensitive nerve endings.

That will be that then, Brazil the better team…

Brazil do have a good defense but the right back Wagner is the weak link.

    Teams should target his side.

Notable having gone 2 up they bring on a defender for right side and push Wagner forward.

    Coach must be aware of.

Willian has been excellent this half.

Neymar has also been a difference maker but his antics leave me cold.

  9. Brilliant from Neymar.Great performance from Mexico.Terrific tempo to the game considering the heat.

How did the guy that stood on Neymars ankle, not get a red card?

  10. Pity it was not Uruguay or Mexico playing Engerlund. Not too sure about Columbia.

WILLIAN DOES SOME WORK,SACRIFCES HIS NORMAL GAME FOR TEAM..

  11. TONTINE TIM

I thought Willian was excellent today, chapeau mate in that heat that amount of running!!

Brazil and Belgium the best two outfits I have seen in this WC, of course I’ve only seen the World Champions once against Tunisia so can’t comment too much on them:)))

Neymar had a smashing game I thought too, scored one made one in the next round job done!

    Howdy bhoys,

The blog seems a bit touchy doesnt it and I have no idea why as there are hardly any scraps on here. I honestly thought we were moving forward and perhaps Im incorrect.

Im increasingly of the opinion that the current rules might not cut it.

Lets take the no cursing rule. Its correct that its in place but its far from perfect.

I could easily write something horrendous without using curse words yet it might well stay up on the blog as no rules have been broken.

And then last nights example of a person coming on here , and having not received the responses they wished for ( I can only assume thats what upset them ) then goes on to insult the fine people on these pages.

How to counter this,,,would a yearly subscription help serve the blog better ? Random strangers wouldnt be able to insult the blog without paying their 20 quid a year or whatever.

THose that do subscribe would be dedicated to the blog I might assume having paid to access it.

The funds gathered from the subs would the enable the ads to be removed ideally which might encourage more to visit and read and would hopefully lead to a subscription being purchased. Thus the blog improves I believe.

Common courtesy should be the blogs mantra in my humble opinion. Anyway just some thoughts.

In local news about 2 weeks ago we got the cougar alert ( on my usual trail ) which is not a big surprise . Some idiot actually went on a hike in a known cougar area and at 1 am encounters one . During cougar season you will find false faces like kids wear at halloween nailed to trees. THis is a sign to wear the falseface at the back of your head so to confuse the big cat who prefers to strike from behind.

https://www.mymotherlode.com/news/local/372475/cougar-spotted-in-sonora.html (while on that website hit news and check the story of the local who just got jailed over a potato projectile device ! )

Then this weekend we get a deer alert. Yes over the weekend there were a few deer attacks which have left 2 yorkies dead and a lab plus its owner attacked.

In this area youre not allowed to kill them so they have become very uninhibited.

Having no fear at all of you and being bigger than well most dogs they basically walk around like they own the place. Im talking dozens if not in the hundreds here,,not just the odd deer. If I havent seen say 15 or so in a day its unusual.

So the 2 yorkies approach a fawn,, in their own back garden ( fences and barriers are rare here due to soo much room to cover with them and its not flat we are on a hillside ) and mama stomps them to death. Not far away from that a lab slowly approaches a doe only to be caught once by a kick. The owner realising my dog could easily die here yells and steps towards deer only to be charged herself. On your own land.

Im afraid if deer repellant doesnt work there may well be a cull. Could well be an illegal one as rednecks with guns will not accept aggressive intruders on their property nor should anyone for that matter.

THis link should get you the ladies report should anyone be interested

And today Hamish gets a shot of anti rattlesnake serum which the vet swears will keep him alive for 30 minutes in the event of a bite and those 30 minutes should be enough to get him the help he needs so for 25 bucks it kinda makes sense. He said if we cant make either his practice or any vet for that matter go to the nearest home and call him stating emergency and he will talk us through some stuff that should work,,ice baths and possibly some common household anti inflammatories etc.

As we approach the 4th of July the firefighter brother in law stands in over 100 degrees plus full uniform fighting numerous fires around the state. He tells me he takes a 24 hour frontline shift ( on the coalface ) and then you get handed a 24 hour hotel pass to recharge ( one meal on the state also ) and repeat. Effing hero if you ask me. All because he loves this state. Seriously. Its the worst week of the year for him is this week. I wish they just banned fireworks sales to the public,,way too dangerous.

Anyway you guys be good. Hail Hail

Neymar’s over-reaction didn’t help his case – took the focus off the incident itself

  14. Neymar is a diving cheating scumbag, the fact he refused to shake hands with a wean after the CL game in Glasgow last year sealed it for me, a tosser of the highest order, a decent footy player mind you.

There are very few rules on this blog, and they are very simple.

Those who flout them with impunity know exactly what they are doing. Perceived shock value maybe?

However what is blatantly noticeable is that it’s dependent who you are if other posters will criticise.

  17. The CQN moderators interpret their rules in much the same way as the SFA do theirs.

    Jobo a moderator? weatherator maybe.

Yes. Big mistake. If you do you get your own show. For more money of course.

  19. Yes we cannot have any of our players being dehydrated in Armenia. What will the Southampton medical team say?

  20. Totally agree with MON’s comments about Neymar.

I hope Brazil don’t win the WC with this individual as their main man.

  21. Hail! Hail! From a very sunny darkest Lanarkshire. Arrived how from Lisbon at 2.15 am this morning , Ryan Air are truly the most awful transport company in the history of the world. Their inadequacies cost me 5-6 hours of a very nice break in Lisbon, please do not ever use them. This was my 3rd journey with them, 6 flights, and they screwed up 3 of them.

Fair play, that means they are off my preferred list. Do what you want, but they will never have another penny from me.

Anyway , lovely to relax in the sun today with my grandson as we prepared to watch the Brazil game. However I need to know what all the panicking over KT is all about, the Bhoy is going nowhere. I think Brendan is setting up the MSM for a right big slice of GIRUY. Hail! Hail!

  22. MAHE – fascinating stuff; the cougar/mask thign freaked my kids. But what state? You didn’t ‘state’…

Neymar – LMAO. Apparently the Mexican bent down and whispered ‘Scott Brown’ in his ear.
