Celtic face Newco amid their onerous load

182

The look on Karamoko Dembele’s face!  He had just been shoved, two handed, to the ground by a Dundee United defender, who made no attempt to play the ball or do anything apart from shove Karamoko, inside the box.  If ever there was a ‘Welcome to Celtic’ moment for a young player, this was it.

Like many spectators, I was unsure what the current handball rule was when the ball struck Giorgos Giakoumakis arm before being turned in by Daizen Maeda, but I am not a referee.  John Beaton is.  The goal should have stood, the Karamoko incident should have been a penalty and a comfortable 0-3 Celtic win should have been a landmark statement of intent.

The goals John Beaton allowed to stand were scrappy.  Two deflections and a fumble by a usually reliable keeper, not that this mattered.  Celtic dominated play, United were unable to craft a chance worthy of the name.

We will face Newco in the semi-final at Hampden on Sunday 17 April.  Newco are almost certain to play a Europa League quarter-final second leg on 14 April.  We have a league game at Ibrox on 3 April and it is likely we will face Newco again at Celtic Park before the end of that month.

Celtic will have a week to prepare for each game.  Newco have the prospect of two major European ties and three games against Celtic inside a month, an onerous load.  The hard work is still to be done, but we are well placed.

Were there not a number of posters who used to post horsey tips at the end of the previous article?

May have been few years back, can’t quite recall.

I often had a wee dip in.

Would be good to see this again.

  2. From Wiki:

    Celtic 0 – 0 Hibernian

    Heart of Midlothian 1 – 0 Queen’s Park

So it wasn’t even Glasgow and Edinburgh ties.

Don’t think huns were there. Queens Park were the other big Glasgow team which made up the semi- final line up.

Agree we need Big Jimmy’s tips for Cheltenham.

We pumped the huns 3:0 in the quarters……… :-)

Good afternoon all from Shawlands. Belhaven 80 shilling still £1.49. And I’ve got the first two winners at Cheltenham. Shocked, I tell ye.

The last and only time Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Hibs made up the Scottish Cup semi-finals was 1907.

    Wee point of information…

1907 was the last time that Glasgow and Embra provided the last 4. However, the other Glasgow team was Queen’s Park. Celtic eliminated the former Ibrox club 3-0 in an earlier round…

Happily, the final produced another 3-0 win against the Embra huns.

Just bet a 10/1 winner at Cheltenham.

I know next to nothing about horse racing. I picked it out because it was the Scottish horse.

No big deal but thought that would put Ernie’s nose out of joint.

    :))

  10. Whilst not completely disregarding the two clubs from Edinburgh, it looks like our season, the glittering-prize of a treble, and CL qualification, has come down to three games against the Ibrox club.

After our abysmal effort last season, our close-season anguish with players leaving, managerial upheaval, signing seventeen players over two windows and a bad start to the league, we are in a far better position at this juncture than most could have imagined.

Everything lies in our own hands, we need rely on no one. That Ange has taken us to this point against all the odds, coming from behind with a oft times depleted squad, is quite remarkable.

Now the acid-test looms – However it looks like we will be better equipped than we have been all season to meet it.

I generally don’t go there because I hate that Tim Martin Wooonker. I did make it for one before we played Aberdeen in Feb due to them selling pints of Leffe for £4!! Ended up blootered.

    Nice one, Tom :-))

There used to be a NAP competition on here but can’t remember who ran it. Guys used to put their NAP at back of previous article to save upsetting the blog. They had a league table to see who was the best

  17. Despite Ayr being my home town, I know nothing about the horses and have very little interest. If having a punt, would look for a jockey in Celtic friendly colours, green/white, green/gold, etc. And get my brother to stick a couple of quid each way on the beast. Miserable git that I am.

Have worked with plenty guys who live for the Cheltenham Festival. Alan Brazil always appears to enjoy the event, to the guinness max.

  18. I know hee haw about horses either, looked last night put on an outragous very very low stake e/w lucky 31.

    So far first 3 horses haven’t placed🤣😂

Corach Rambler has enabled a few more plays….

  19. Good afternoon from a bright North Staffs –

Think it was Fleagle who did the horses.

My dearly departed brother James loved going to Cheltenham and in fact had planned to go this year.

I don’t bet but found a horse running tomorrow in the 17.30 James’s Gate so will have a small wager.

Timmy7 aye Leffe is a wonderful beer but too strong for a session. I love Duvel, the Devil’s beer. After a few of them I don’t know if it’s New Year or New York. 😳

Wonder what the ticket allocation will be for the SC semi at Hampden…will be interesting to see both sets of fans go head to head again, kinda missed it, will definitely add to the occasion – as long as we beat them!
