Celtic face Newco amid their onerous load

182

The look on Karamoko Dembele’s face!  He had just been shoved, two handed, to the ground by a Dundee United defender, who made no attempt to play the ball or do anything apart from shove Karamoko, inside the box.  If ever there was a ‘Welcome to Celtic’ moment for a young player, this was it.

Like many spectators, I was unsure what the current handball rule was when the ball struck Giorgos Giakoumakis arm before being turned in by Daizen Maeda, but I am not a referee.  John Beaton is.  The goal should have stood, the Karamoko incident should have been a penalty and a comfortable 0-3 Celtic win should have been a landmark statement of intent.

The goals John Beaton allowed to stand were scrappy.  Two deflections and a fumble by a usually reliable keeper, not that this mattered.  Celtic dominated play, United were unable to craft a chance worthy of the name.

We will face Newco in the semi-final at Hampden on Sunday 17 April.  Newco are almost certain to play a Europa League quarter-final second leg on 14 April.  We have a league game at Ibrox on 3 April and it is likely we will face Newco again at Celtic Park before the end of that month.

Celtic will have a week to prepare for each game.  Newco have the prospect of two major European ties and three games against Celtic inside a month, an onerous load.  The hard work is still to be done, but we are well placed.

Is Kyogo guaranteed a start when fit?

    Yes

    We’ll said Steve Gibson.

    You reap what you sow.

I’ll take a little bit of incidental pleasure watching Chelsea’s slow deterioration.

Didn’t Pablo promise a piece on them recently?

  3. Quite happy for Ajax to get knocked out by Benfica. Their fans are thugs who hate Celtic. Remember their attack on a pub in the Gsllowgate, their attack on Celtic fans in a pub in Amsterdam and the thuggish attack by Dutch police on Celtic fans in the Dam Square. Europe doesn’t need them.

TOSB…agree on Ajax happy to see Benfica win also glad Man Utd lost even though it was Atletico who beat them…Lille and Villarreal winning would also be nice.

Would be great if Chelsea were the first of many rich men’s playthings to disintegrate followed by City,PSG,Newcastle ect. unfortunately like the supposed “covid society reset” it ain’t gonna happen.

  6. The hand of God on

Would be even happier to see Kyogo and Turnbull playing for Celtic again as soon as possible.

Exactly, delighted to see the back of them. Absolute animals, the behaviour of their fans in Glasgow that night, particularly since they linked up with the huns, was as bad as anything I’ve ever seen from visiting fans.

I enjoyed the tears of the “men in black” at the end of last nights game.

Now that we have injured players nearing a return to the squad in time for a big April assault on the League and Cup, here’s hoping we don’t have any more sudden Covid absences to deal with.

We have a Treble to win.

Not forgetting the Glesca Polis who were complicit in agreeing to divert resources away from the area in advance of the planned attack.

Bono a bit of a hypocrite but I wouldn’t call him a scumbag,

Tom your post with the Avi/God joke has been removed due to language

Don’t get me wrong, it was a good joke and I did laugh but the last line killed it

Didn’t read link but assume there is some chat about celebs buying into Celtic?

If so, I’d assume they’d act as a front for a consortium as neither has the financial capacity?

    Oldish joke …

If you want to end up being worth £1 billion how do you go about it?

Start off with £2 billion and buy a football club.

According to Catalan radio station Rac1, the agreement with Spotify is worth 280m euros (£235m).

Anyone else receive a letter asking for a £30 ‘gift’ for our armed forces in this time of need? Aren’t they employed by the government? Is there any another organisation employed by the government touting for ‘gifts’?

  20. I see Tom Mclaughlin has been sanctioned earlier today for some of his jokes
