I am trying hard to avoid transfer speculation. For the most part, it is wide of the mark and reflects publishing deadlines, not actual events. Feel free to imagine you have a column to fill and just go ahead and write stuff yourself. It might be helpful to know that Celtic are not waiting on Champions League qualification to decide to spend money or not. This is just not true.
Suggesting otherwise does not make sense. We are a football club who are about reaching the Champions League and winning trophies. Achieving these goals puts money in the bank, which makes the goals more achievable in future. Leaving money in the bank puts zero money in the pockets of anyone working at Celtic.
Telling fans Celtic have tens of millions in the bank but are waiting to see if they will earn more before spending, is like a sport. They are laughing at us. Celtic fans are being toyed with, largely because information on Celtic’s transfer work is not leaking.
I couldn’t let the resignation of Queen’s Park president Graeme Shields go without comment. Two games into the season he left citing “an increased level of personal and online abuse towards myself and others associated with the club”. Fans of small clubs always bang on about is how entitled fans of the bigger clubs are, that they go along not expecting to win anything and that it’s all about the banter with their mates.
That might be true for some of them, but there is a hardcore in society who struggle to find fulfilment without hurling abuse at an authority figure from a safe distance. You really need to wonder why anyone would get involved in football.

Paul, I feel you’re constantly constructing straw man arguments when it comes to Celtic’s transfer performance.
It’s not speculation, but indeed fact, that we’re a week from a CL play off and have one left winger in our squad. It’s a fact that we’ve sold Kuhn weeks ago and have yet to replace him.
It’s a fact that our current manager and his predecessor have both publicly criticised the club for being too slow to bring in players.
To suggest Celtic fans are being worked into a frenzy by media is just a polite way of saying we’re stupid.
Sadly, you have form for such condescending comments.
so the huns will be allowed to do a u-turn on their postponement of their game against st mirren?
what a scam – they have realised how far behind in the league they could potentially be by the time we play them and have keeked the bed, especially given their first leg euro score.
the authorities should tell them to piss off.
“An authority figure”………….thats gonna annoy someone somewhere
Thought the headline was for the Board……maybe not….

It might be helpful to know that Celtic are not waiting on Champions League qualification to decide to spend money or not. This is just not true. They have decided not to spend any money at all, regardless.
Fixed that for you Paul…..

They said St Mirren game was postponed, now because we could be 7 ahead before going to the Hate Factory, and their CB would be suspended, they want it back on,they cannot allow a U turn here.
Probably going to be the same points difference if they play or dont
St Mirren will beat them

Nice one Paul
One element to this foolishness is the now TOTAL absence of ANY possible semblance to the truth or the facts.
There was a time when journalistic standards drove different behaviours.
The facts were gathered and processed.
Sometimes the facts were so thin on the ground journalists had to make educated guesses.
Some journalists had the tools (intelligence and integrity) to make those educated guesses .. which, sometimes, were wrong.
Now?
Brainless morons who I wouldn’t hire to make the tea (geddit, Keith?) just make it up and click publish.
And why not?
To paraphrase an old saying.
“Make a fool of me once. Shame on you ..”
“Make a fool of me a thousand times ? ..”
“Go right ahead. I deserve it”
I believe they said postponement was contingent on reaching the CL play-off round.
That said, their new CB being ineligible and potentially going 10 points behind by the end of August will be too much of a risk to take so I think they’ll play that weekend regardless (with any luck they’ll lose the playoff game and be beaten by both St Mirren and Celtic 😀).
Bada Bing
I think we may find out , that they will be allowed to .
TT
I want them to play St Mirren .
There is a good chance that they will drop points .
TT
Absolute rubbish again.
All Celtic has to do to avoid such headlines is get the damned job done. The deadline is in two days. We’ll see if business is done before then, but if it isn’t I won’t hold my breath, and nor should anyone else, waiting for a mea culpa on here.
As to “this does not make sense”, I’ll say what I’ve said elsewhere.
Stockton Rush took the Titan down to the depths although serious people had told him that the hull was not going to be able to withstand the pressure of the sea. He was an engineer, so he knew what the words “mathematical certainty” meant as well as anyone. On his second to last trip down there he heard the sounds of death itself knocking on the door – you can see it in the opening scene of the Netflix documentary; he knows that that sound of cracking and snapping means. Still, he went back and this time he took a bunch of tourists with him …
… nobody said that this has to make sense. The world doesn’t make a lot of sense. People do stupid things, driven by ego, megalomania or just out of spite. There’s a lot of all of that rolling around in this, I suspect. I am not surprised by any of it and nobody else should be either.
Looking for sense in this is a fools errand. Sometimes things are just as mad as they look.
BTB – “One element to this foolishness is the now TOTAL absence of ANY possible semblance to the truth or the facts”.
Unfortunately this is not exclusive to journalism and is now pervasive in societal discourse generally.
Whether politics, economics/finance or whatever, it’s about establishing narratives that go unchallenged.
SPFL ….. “Rules is rules , Rangers . Just tell us what you want the rules to be …”

I am sorry to read this. Pat was a great friend of my friend, Tom Campbell. They worked together on several books. We lost Tom earlier this year. I hope that there are young authors ready and able to fill the huge gap that has been left.

“ Celtic refuse to bow to changing winds of football recruitment.”

Nice, but what does it actually mean, and is it accurate. A transfer window where we’re flying, – selling high, and swooping low for replacements. If it plays out the way a lot of supporters fear, we could well be facing stormy ‘no one wanted’ our money ‘ couldn’t get it over the line ‘ weather.
Being able to manage decline needs bolting on with Celtic’s transfer strategy, buy low, sell high saw Nicolas Kuhn disappear in a puff of smoke, at the opening of the window, you have to smile at the ‘Celtic do their business towards the end of the window theorists ‘ they’re probably right, but not in a good way. We could be burning the candle at both ends come the closure, the much maligned Celtic board verse Brendan Rodgers is a mere deflection, whilst “ the bhoys working hard behind the scenes “ could be away ahead of everyone.
Shrewd operators? hiding behind an exasperated head coach is not a good look in a window where there’s even a dearth of clickbait, so we can’t entirely blame the media, not even for ‘ the bedwetters’ ©️Paul67

A spot on post.
Celtic currently are like the Andrea Gail in the movie The Perfect Storm. As each day passes with no incomings, we are edging closer to that 100ft wave.
Was it last week that go ahead eagles were laughing at us ?
I’m not gonna lose sleep over go ahead eagles, but they’ve no skin in the game when it comes to the Glasgow goldfish bowl.
The whole episode just adds to what is already in the public domain re our transfer lethargy.
It’s not rumour or speculation. There’s enough already out there to allow Celtic fans to question how the club is being run.
“…but there is a hardcore in society who struggle to find fulfilment without hurling abuse at an authority figure.”
Can’t remember the fella’s name but he was an excellent – Muslim, I think – lawyer, who recently spoke about how citizens take their cues from their supposed leaders; so when they see bawbags-in-charge abusing and harassing others they feel that’s the done thing and model the same behaviours in crude and non-strategic ways (I’m paraphrasing what the guy said – I wish I could find it)
Blogs/press/meeja/vlogs – they’re all chasing the same thing (clicks) – using incendiary claims and faux outrage. The Vietnamese ones likely used Pho Outrage anaw.
This idea that you can only get the players you want at the last moment, that Brendan will somehow get what he wants as the transfer window gets ready to slam shut is an insult to our intelligence.
There is transfer business going on every day across Europe,
We signed Nygren some weeks ago. Did he drag his heels? Wait to see who else might come calling? Or did we make him an attractive enough offer which he was happy with?
It is sevenmonths since Kyogo left and Brendan said he needed to be replaced. Just for this one position, please Paul, tell me how the hell we have not managed to identify and sign a suitable replacement? Over half a year to do scouting work, background checks, video analysis, interviews, medical reports . . . and nothing. I cannot think of a single excuse that would explain why we do not have a top CF in our team ready for the coming CL qualifiers and the season ahead.
So, we’re not waiting to see if CELTIC qualify for the Champions League…….
Blogger @ 12:52 – agree with that.
Standard M.O. for those for whom messaging trumps truth.
£€$¥ almost always behind it.
Key to the M.O. being successful?
Dumb, unchallenging consumption.

Sad news indeed for these 2 great friends.
I was in touch with Tom a couple of times when he was researching his Charlie Tully book after meeting him in the International Bar in Edinburgh to watch a Celtic away game.
He told me stories of him and Pat working on another Celtic book on past players. He told me Pat would think nothing of climbing over Cemetery gates after they closed to get some vital info from gravestones!
God rest them both, what a service they’ve provided to Celtic fans over the decades.
Glorious twelfth ?
‘Mon the grouse!

I agree it is not just the media whipping up the Celtic fans frenzy.
Others with a different agenda are playing their part. Of course the fans themselves are ready cannon fodder for folks who want to manipulate them to their own ends.
Those who own the club have no interest in generating any malcontent. All they want is to ensure we spend the significant budget / cash surplus in a way which enhances our squad in the short term/ medium and long term.
The challenge for the manager and his recruitment chap is to identify and ‘sell’ the club to whichever players and agents we wish to attract.
No one benefits for us sitting with £40m or so in the bank which had been earmarked for incoming players.
Personally I wish we could hold onto Maeda (play as 9) and Reo. Ensure these guys were well looked after. The challenge of getting players who will come and perform here is not an easy one. It is a pretty unique environment. Those with the mental fortitude to cope with the ‘must win’ are not 10 a penny.
I don’t envy BR and whoever else is tasked with the job. It is not easy. It’s is why virtually no one can actually name a single player who would come here who we should sign ✍️.
I suppose some people will defend the indefensible.
If we can’t identify and recruit a centre forward in SEVEN months then we may as well chuck it, shut down the recruitment team, and get the local witch doctor in to throw chicken bones in the air.
To attempt to defend this situation as being norma,l when every aspect of tells you it isn’t normal, is bizarre.
What we’re being asked to believe is that we’ve identified players but the players are mulling over their options. It can’t be that we haven’t offered enough to either the player or the club because that isn’t the tone of this article.
As for “Fans being toyed with”, well I think I know who is doing the toying. After all it isn’t as if this didn’t happen last summer, or the January before that, or indeed this January.
I was gutted when David Hay and Lou Macari left for Chelsea and Man U for £200k. Devastated when Kenny D moved to Liverpool for £440k.
Back then the biscuit tin ruled. We kinda accepted it.
Now we have total transparency. Few clubs are as transparent as us. At least we know every penny is accounted for.
Yet we have ‘shock jock’ attention seekers whose only role in life is to try to make money from having a go at Celtic on his pathetic blog. It’s all he does and he comes on here with such arrogance.
We know abusing authority figures gets good clicks. Even more so at Celtic. Yet still some folk are stupid enough to fall for these bottom feeder types.
I am glad CQN is a passionate hobby for our host here. As an independent, hard working and successful business owner in his own right it is not something he seeks to / needs to profit from. You will notice the difference from this and many other blogs.
Cheap click from slagging Celtic not needed.
Just shattered
Any names then ?
No didnt think so.

Totally agree.
It was not about money or clicks for these 2 great guys either !
Off to dig out their books from my library.
Hopefully we will be good enough with what we’ve got to see off our CL qualifying opponents, and them across the city , Imho Both debatable . Is this the worst transfer window yet . Something has to give , will it be Brendan our excellent manager or will it be Peter and his men . To be honest I can’t see a way ahead for Brendan , I don’t know how he has stuck the interference to this point . What was the point of having the meetings with Desmond , to allow him to return to the club , to not follow through with the agreement they allegedly had in place . Desmond I feel is allowing all this to gather pace , does he not see we need improvements for areas of the team , all this hasn’t spoiled my enjoyment of watching the hoops . But I Hope to god the no 1 criteria within Celtic park is for the good of the club and its fans , not letting in fighting
Take us down . HH
B78.
I’ll have a go at your name game: Andy Irving.
I think he would run here and, at 25 as a fringe player with an EPL side and a chunk of mixed Euro league experience, a bit of midfield dig, decent height, well-regarded by Hammers’ fans and not a bad shot in him, I think he could be a good signing at a good time.
Overall, I’m quite relaxed about our signing policy/progress; either I’m on the deludamol, have full faith in our execs or have sorta figured out which things in life really merit giving proper fux about. We’ve bought keenly to date and will likely do so again before the fat lady sings.

New low for the BBC editors today.
Not a single mention of the Palestinian journalists brutally murdered by Israel yesterday.
Not even a single mention of Palestine on its front news page.
Wow.
