Celtic fans being toyed with

284

I am trying hard to avoid transfer speculation.  For the most part, it is wide of the mark and reflects publishing deadlines, not actual events.  Feel free to imagine you have a column to fill and just go ahead and write stuff yourself.  It might be helpful to know that Celtic are not waiting on Champions League qualification to decide to spend money or not.  This is just not true.

Suggesting otherwise does not make sense.  We are a football club who are about reaching the Champions League and winning trophies.  Achieving these goals puts money in the bank, which makes the goals more achievable in future.  Leaving money in the bank puts zero money in the pockets of anyone working at Celtic.

Telling fans Celtic have tens of millions in the bank but are waiting to see if they will earn more before spending, is like a sport.  They are laughing at us.  Celtic fans are being toyed with, largely because information on Celtic’s transfer work is not leaking.

I couldn’t let the resignation of Queen’s Park president Graeme Shields go without comment.  Two games into the season he left citing “an increased level of personal and online abuse towards myself and others associated with the club”.  Fans of small clubs always bang on about is how entitled fans of the bigger clubs are, that they go along not expecting to win anything and that it’s all about the banter with their mates.

That might be true for some of them, but there is a hardcore in society who struggle to find fulfilment without hurling abuse at an authority figure from a safe distance.  You really need to wonder why anyone would get involved in football.

Like most Im waiting with anticipation on the next footballer to walk through our door

Yes Im a bit frustrated – but I’m not panicking just yet

13 titles in 14 years, £85m (approx) in the bank somebody knows what they are doing

But yesterday’s success does not guarantee tomorrow’s achievements

The fact is the team today is not as good as it was in January

There is work to do over the next 20 days – I expect (hope) our Board are up to the task

In the very unlikely event that we go into September with what we have today it would confirm that the Celtic support are most definitely being toyed with…….

Not by the MSM but by our own club

I have 20 days of patience left

Thanks for that. Really good to get a suggestion. Hopefully others might do likewise.

I don’t profess to be an expert. Young enough and with a point to prove plus experience at a decent level. Seems to tick plenty boxes. Could maybe offer a good bit more than Bernardo who sadly seems to be marginalised currently.

Didn’t someone say not very long ago that we were a development club or we were nothing?

    Just shattered

    Any names then ?

    No didnt think so.

I don’t understand “Any names then?”

Is that what we’re reduced to now, just ignoring the fact we have a well paid recruitment department in favour of fans randomly shouing names at the club so they can ignore them as well.

The errors in the last three windows have been glaring. Last year was a free pass but this year we have to qualify for the Champions League. That means that to give us the best chance of qualification business should have been done before now.

    “Any names then” dearie me.

  5. At 25, Irving’s prob not a neat fit for ‘the club model’ but more like what BR says he wants; something nearer the finished article. Our coaches can surely lift someone of his profile to higher levels.

I agree that PB is taking his time to force his way into regular starting contention – would we make our money on him I wonder ?

Aye; news of the 5 killed Al-jazeera journos is really lamentable.

    Time for my cot.

    PS:

What’s better; toyed with OR toys oot prams ?

  6. I still believe we will sign players. Definitely a winger maybe 2. I also expect a few to go on loan. I think we signed 3 last year on the last day.

I don’t know why we are building surplus. I remember Brian Quinn saying that we will spend every penny. I also remember Peter Lawwell saying the same.

What has changed with club policy? Desmond is calling the shots but why the change

  7. What an odd article.

The season has started and, unlike many other teams across the continent, we have yet to replace the recently departed – that’s before we even look to strengthen.

Rather than address why this is, we create a straw man argument, a squirrel.

‘Look over there, the media are causing this. Don’t he fooled. Don’t be distracted’

For my part, i barely engage with the sports media in Scotalnd. Unless an article is retweeted by others, I’m unlikely to see it.

I don’t need the Celtic hating media to tell me our recruitment process (for it is an entire process) is not up to scratch.

The absence of suitable new signings confirms that to me.

Odd article. I wonder who is toying with whom

BBC News is a tool of the establishment. The Labour government is also a tool of the establishment. Their Cabinet is full of establishment place men. Starmer as well.

Saying that I have heard a change in tone in their recent reports. Frank Gardiner yesterday was highly critical of Israelis. Jeremy Bowen as well. I think it was some of the few Journalists in Gaza being killed brought it home.

We are still the worst national broadcaster in Europe at balanced reporting on Palestine.

  9. bournesouprecipe on

Every Celtic transfer window is a difficult buying window, selling is easy it seems, even in the doubly difficult ‘January market’ when Kyogo went onwards to his second club since Celtic.

If, or when we lose our last elite, tier one coach, we’ll still have a highly professional, recruitment process, a team of pro’s, ran by highly competent football professionals paid handsomely.

    Won’t we? CSC

  10. In essence, there is something rotten at our beloved Celtic, really rotten. I really despair.

67 ECW from earlier, very good post

  11. I was in Queens Park yesterday and someone had used stencils for Free Palestine on the black waste bins and someone followed up by covering the message up with sheets of kitchen roll.

    Plenty of Israeli apologists around

  12. QUADROPHENIAN – Irving’s name is already doing the rounds. According to Hammers forums we put in an offer for 1.7 million when the asking price is double that.

Burnley – by your logic, when a key employee of Apple resigns, the owners of iPhones should come up with replacement names.

The Apple Board and specifically the HR dept would be slaughtered by shareholders if they did not find a suitable replacement, that is their job. They have recruitment agencies on speed dial, headhunters at the ready who will have a shortlist of suitable replacements ready for all corporate positions

A clinical and experienced CF is a key position in a football team. Normally one of the most valuable, if not the most valuable. To not have a suitable replacement for Kyogo after half a year is worthy of criticism. A football team with CL participation at stake does not have the luxury of time to wait for the end of season sales.

  16. Would you ask our highly paid recruitment team to perform Thoracic Aortic Dissection surgery.?

Of course not., that is not their specialised discipline.

Would like to see Shin, Inamura and Pusey getting a start against Falkirk. Or is that a bit risqué?

  18. bournesouprecipe on

These pro’s in the recruitment team of course are backed by a transfer strategy team who modelled and fine tune the process uninfluenced by anybody. Dove tailing succinctly with the budget office, whose head drives through transfer deals, in every window.

I suppose some people will defend the indefensible.

If we can’t identify and recruit a centre forward in SEVEN months then we may as well chuck it.

    ——-

Not sure I agree with this JS.

I’m using Brendan’s messaging from January here …

To be clear – not his exact words because I can’t remember them – but I’m reasonably confident the essence of BR’s words are accurate.

Brendan said he would ideally like two main striker options with a third younger striker he could work with and develop.

    Seems reasonable and pragmatic …

… and it is what he has right now.

Daizen and Adam are his two mains.

One he raves about and one he signed.

Callum Osmand is the younger option.

Shin and Johnny now also in the mix.

If we had even just one winger (I’ve said repeatedly we need two) Daizen could be played primarily as a striker.

Which BTW, I believe would help Adam big time.

    Striker capacity we definitely have.

Striker capability across our 5 strikers?

    Up for debate, clearly.

Perceived ability here and now (3 of 5), current form (1 of 5), availability (1 of 5) being likely focuses.

An A Class player? por cierto

  26. Sorry so far. Rangers linked with a player , offer made, deal done within days. Celtic linked with player, offer made, offer rejected, other clubs interested, Celtic go dark.

I have no doubts Celtic will sign 2-3 player in this window – late , desperate , impromptu, opportunistic. Maybe we get lucky but it reeks of poor planning and lack of respect for the Manager and the team as it prepares for European challenges.

I’ve not bought any Celic merchandise and won’t until they show some degree of ambition – Pusey, Inamura and Yamada are promising but development players with high degree of risk. We need experienced professionals.

Its really disgusting – Rodgers has improved the performance and we came within an inch of getting into the next phase of champions league and even more $$ – yet our board can’t see what he (and we) see in terms of ambition and potential.

Does Nicholson have the stature and credibility to sell our club – doubt it ? so far he’s been a mouse!

Good to see the dithering darnel change their mind about postponing the St Mirren match.

These are the kind of things that are loaded with the risk of unintended consequences.

They postponed the match to improve their chances of qualifying.

They’ve reversed that decision to reduce their chances of falling 10 points behind the Champions before August is out.

    All outcomes remain possible, regardless.

Meantime St Mirren will have an added edge about them, given that the inference from the latest decision is that Rangers think they’ll take the 3 points from them. While the Rangers players already know that the priority is the UCL qualifier.

All a bit naive, isn’t it.
