Celtic fans being toyed with

284

I am trying hard to avoid transfer speculation.  For the most part, it is wide of the mark and reflects publishing deadlines, not actual events.  Feel free to imagine you have a column to fill and just go ahead and write stuff yourself.  It might be helpful to know that Celtic are not waiting on Champions League qualification to decide to spend money or not.  This is just not true.

Suggesting otherwise does not make sense.  We are a football club who are about reaching the Champions League and winning trophies.  Achieving these goals puts money in the bank, which makes the goals more achievable in future.  Leaving money in the bank puts zero money in the pockets of anyone working at Celtic.

Telling fans Celtic have tens of millions in the bank but are waiting to see if they will earn more before spending, is like a sport.  They are laughing at us.  Celtic fans are being toyed with, largely because information on Celtic’s transfer work is not leaking.

I couldn’t let the resignation of Queen’s Park president Graeme Shields go without comment.  Two games into the season he left citing “an increased level of personal and online abuse towards myself and others associated with the club”.  Fans of small clubs always bang on about is how entitled fans of the bigger clubs are, that they go along not expecting to win anything and that it’s all about the banter with their mates.

That might be true for some of them, but there is a hardcore in society who struggle to find fulfilment without hurling abuse at an authority figure from a safe distance.  You really need to wonder why anyone would get involved in football.

Did you see those penalties Slovan missed😲

I’m away to find Paul’s article on why he wanted to play Almaty.

  2. Anyone thinking of driving over for the Kairat game.If you cut onto the M8 att Charing Cross,it takes about 6 minutes off your travelling time. 😋

  3. We play at home first which is better. Kairat will have a return trip before we play them over there. Forget about this crap, oh shit we have to travel quite a bit. A win next week by any margin (hopefully a few) will set us up.

Kairat it is. I was at the home game against Karagandy. No gimme. Was also at Astana 5-0 game,so hopefully a repeat of that in the 1st leg.

Board will sell Maeda to pay for the charter.

Here it is: “ Despite the prospect of a journey deep into Asia on 26 August, I would prefer Kairat Almaty to progress to the playoff round in place of Slovan Bratislava. Slovan looked to be in control of the first leg of the tie in Kazakhstan until a 65th minute red card, followed by a 90th minute penalty goal for the home side. The Slovakians are the stronger side and remain favourites to progress but that late goal means they will need to battle in the return leg”.

Still kinda makes sense, but it an awfy long way to go play in searing heat.

  6. Glasgow – Istanbul -( 4 hours stop)-Vladyvostock (6 hours stop ) – Beiijing ( overnighht stop) -Kairat.Travel time,62 hours.£ 35 quid a head cheaper than direct.Nicholson making the bookings now.

Getting knocked out by the 311th best team in (cough) Europe whilst nickel and diming the transfer market would be the daddy of them all for big Pete and his followers… imagine if that rotten hun mob were to Flickr it past Brugge at the same time. Dearie me, those authority figures might get a slightly rough press…

  8. If we don’t take a healthy lead to Almaty, will be joining the perma-rage crowd.

This is an opportunity that’s ours to lose!

Having watched the whole game in Bratislava, I confidently predict Celtic will be in the Champions League. Two very poor teams tonight.

  10. Just imagine Celtic go through and just imagine Rangers lose , shut your eyes and just imagine , try really hard …..

  11. Whether we are currently good enough to batter Kairat 4 or 5 nil at CP, thus making the 2nd leg redundant, is uncertain. Hoping we do not huff and puff our way through both legs. The Executive better hope we prevail. If not, it’ll be on their heads.

Imagine a world where the Board didn’t take 8 months to replace your top, striker to ready us for this tie,

Shut your eyes and try really, really hard…

    No, me neither.

  13. Long range forecast for march day in Almaty is for a max of 24°C. It should be pleasantly mild and comfortably playable at kick off time. Concerns of “searing temperatures” are unnecessary.

Our top striker if memory serves was firing blanks for months and at 30 yo was sold for £10M , he was replaced prior to this by Adam and then Daizen stepped up to the plate in his national team role.

We’ll just need to disagree on your take on events.

  15. Slovan Bratislava is probably a better team than Kairat Almaty .

The red card for Slovan and conceding the late, late penalty gave Kairat an advantage that they didn’t deserve .

We now face the weaker team of the two… the journey to Kazakhstan will be the focus point in all reports tomorrow .

However, we have one slight advantage…

This is the 4th round qualifier for Kairat.

So far, Kairat has made a return journey to Slovenia

Then, a return journey to Finland.

And a return trip to Bratislava.

When we play them, they will have had 7 extremely long flights.

We should be aiming to settle the tie at home.

When we play them in Kazakhstan, they will have made 8 long-range flights, in 5-6 weeks

    We will have made 1.

If we do not take care of business, it will be all down to our own unpreparedness.

*wtf why, it’ll be on our elite managers head

  17. Interesting fact.

Over the two legs,Victoria Plzn,a poor version of St Mirren, had 44 shots against them.

Thats how bad both teams were in differing ways.

What Ziggy and The Onlooker said.

    “Nightmare trip” narrative already started.

    Yawn.

Almaty have 25 hours air travel a week before they play us.

(Unless they decide to remain in Central Europe for a week)

With the play off bounty secured they can afford it.

    Bring it on.

Bad result and sequence of events in Bruges for R2ngers.

Bruges played a decent team over two legs winning both narrowly.

Worked hard to get a lead then hold for an away victory.

Then encountered genuine jeopardy tonight (1-2, with 10 to play) but faced it down and came through with a victory.

    Rustiness will have been removed.

They’ll be battle hardened for next week.

    Big step up for R2ngers.

As I said a month ago, if they get through they’ll have earned it.

Are the Huns playing the st Mirren game so that a suspension can be served to make a player available to play against us?

When your argument requires denigrating Kyogo’s contribution it’s time to give up.

I will give you that £10m was excellent business. If the money wasn’t gathering as much dust as some of the longer serving members of the Board.

No excuse for weakening the squad prior to the ECL play-off when we have tens of millions in the bank. They just have no clue how to get it done. Rodgers is bailing them out. As Ange did. Liabilities.
