Celtic fans being toyed with

284

I am trying hard to avoid transfer speculation.  For the most part, it is wide of the mark and reflects publishing deadlines, not actual events.  Feel free to imagine you have a column to fill and just go ahead and write stuff yourself.  It might be helpful to know that Celtic are not waiting on Champions League qualification to decide to spend money or not.  This is just not true.

Suggesting otherwise does not make sense.  We are a football club who are about reaching the Champions League and winning trophies.  Achieving these goals puts money in the bank, which makes the goals more achievable in future.  Leaving money in the bank puts zero money in the pockets of anyone working at Celtic.

Telling fans Celtic have tens of millions in the bank but are waiting to see if they will earn more before spending, is like a sport.  They are laughing at us.  Celtic fans are being toyed with, largely because information on Celtic’s transfer work is not leaking.

I couldn’t let the resignation of Queen’s Park president Graeme Shields go without comment.  Two games into the season he left citing “an increased level of personal and online abuse towards myself and others associated with the club”.  Fans of small clubs always bang on about is how entitled fans of the bigger clubs are, that they go along not expecting to win anything and that it’s all about the banter with their mates.

That might be true for some of them, but there is a hardcore in society who struggle to find fulfilment without hurling abuse at an authority figure from a safe distance.  You really need to wonder why anyone would get involved in football.

  1. Loving the idea we brought Kyogo’s replacement in a year before we sold him, initially on a loan, then when we had a good look signed him last summer.

The really impressive thing is we brought in Yangs’ replacement when Adam came in on loan, managed to sell him before we even sold Yang….

The Board it appears are so forward thinking most of us can’t even see how good these savants are!?

  2. Regarding the suggestion that Idah replaced Kyogo, an AI request returned the following

    Ref – Gemini AI

Question- ‘how many games did Idah and Kyogo play together at Celtic’ (you may come up with a more appropriate question)

    Reply –

“Adam Idah joined Celtic on loan in January 2024. Kyogo Furuhashi departed Celtic in January 2025. Therefore, their time playing together was limited to the latter half of the 2023-2024 season and the first half of the 2024-2025 season.

Adam Idah made 19 appearances for Celtic in the 2023-2024 season after joining on loan, scoring 9 goals. Kyogo Furuhashi played 33 games in the 2023-2024 Scottish Premiership.

In the 2024-2025 season, Kyogo left in January. Adam Idah has made 35 league appearances for Celtic as of current information (August 2025).

While specific data on every single game they played on the pitch at the same time is not readily available in the search results, we can infer that they played together in matches from February 2024 until January 2025. During this period, they would have competed for the striker role, but also played alongside each other in various formations or as substitutes.

One source explicitly states: “Rodgers has consistently stated that the pair will share minutes this campaign and provide an equal threat. That has proved to be exactly the case so far in 2024/25.” This confirms they were actively part of the same squad and sharing playing time during the period they were both at the club.”

In my opinion, Idah *did not* replace Kyogo and it is disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

Our recruitment process appears to be sub optimal.

Some folks creating false narratives/making stuff up to suit their agenda and/or to start an argument.

Whether Adam Idah was signed to replace Kyogo is totally irrelevant.

The fact is he is not good enough to be Celtic’s first choice striker.

So either we sign someone who is and he drops to the bench or we cut our loses, sell him and redeploy the capital.

    It’s a simple as that.

  4. Glenowen @ 7:37 am,

  5. With our top class manager/coach and our playing squad, as it is today, we will qualify for the Champions League group stages by winning the qualifier. We will beat Almaty. That does not mean we should not be making essential, necessary, signings as soon as possible to improve the first choice pool and to deepen the squad. Nor does it mean happiness with the performance of the recruiting team – whatever that involves, at whatever level. But there will be no excuses for the manager and players for not qualifying. None. They are more than good enough to dispose of Almaty.

  6. Picinisco @ 8:10 am,

We should definitely not be underestimating Kairat, that is 40 mn + game for them and a huge round trip for us.

Our Board have done no preparation for this game.

  7. Between now and the end of the month we have five very important matches. Including 2 cl qualification matches and away at Ibrox, roughly a game every three days. With the added complexity of some horrible travel. In those matches we’ll need to play Jamesie, Daizen and Adam in all of them.

Great job Celtic. The planning and forward thinking strikes again.

The negativity around Celtic generally and the hatred of the board specifically are just too ingrained in some.

And not just among the “aw, FFS !” crew, but extending to intelligent, thoughtful and interesting posters too.

To be fair to them, the root cause of their displeasure has, IMHO, a chunk of legitimacy … but if individuals can’t get past this and just enjoy being a Celtic fan?

The club that doesn’t like to kick on.

£40M CL at stake, now travelling to the end of the earth, and back just in time for the Rainjurz. Arguably weaker, but definitely richer than we were 12 months ago, if there is a plan, can a Celtic supporter explain it?

Of course there’s nothing at stake really, Celtic even after a dozzie summer we’ll breeze the qualifier and sail on to the end of the window for the big mad scramble. Season tickets – sold – record ticket sales, record prize money, record merchandise sales , and an elite coach for now.

  15. Bournesouprecipe @ 9:54 am,

    Yes, spot on as per..

Going back to the start three seasons, we had Kyogo, Giakoumakis as our top strikers, we also had Daizen and Abada who could play through the middle.

Add to that we had Jota on fire…

We have sold Kyogo, Abada and Giakoumakis.

Since then we have bought and sold Kuhn, Adam hasn’t pushed on, Daizen is out of form and Jota is long term injured.

It is the Board’s policy of selling Celtic’s best players, the idea that they can do that and not have any responsibility for reinvesting in the team is nonsensical.

Not kicking on now doesn’t just seem a failure in planning, it is now so inherent, it seems like the plan itself.

    Hail Hail

  16. The good thing re kick off times is that it really will be tough for them

At least 12.45pm for our guys body clocks is normal most weekends for tv. 8pm uk time is kick off at 1am for their guys. So finishing about 3am.

    Definitely tougher for those guys.

  18. So we are now selling off those assets of value and otherwise who were bought pre BR taking over recruitment. We have generated a great return on those over all. Some disasters but overall a really positive result for those recruited up to and including January 24 window.

Our current team should be now be more representative of those brought in during BR 3 window period. We should be seeing those assets grow in value and especially contribution just as we saw GG JJ Kyogo Jota Abada MOR Khun and others less significant do. We still have Maeda and Hatate and AJ and CCV of the pre Brendan era to maximise return on.

It will be good to see how Brendan’s recruits do both on the park and as realisable assets. Hopefully they can build on the legacy.

Personally I would have loved us to lock a few of the current ones in for a few more years whilst we bring in better but I am sure our manager knows best.

  19. Funny Ange seemed to be fine re our recruitment and focused on winning football games and yet we bought all these strong performers and great assets in his time.

Funny BR moans about others consistently not having ambition and yet he has not yet delivered in terms of any exciting new players or indeed potential value realisation.

Same board and similar or more cash available.

  20. Prestonpans bhoys on

Apparently the huns receive a fee of £3.7m for their tie against Brugge.

I assume we receive a similar sum too, if so that would cover our entire expenditure in this current window.

  21. We’ve looked very solid in our first two league games, barely given up a real chance either.

Daizen hasn’t looked himself for a while now but defensively along with KT that’s a strong combination.

We all want new signings but credit should go to those who’ve started the season.

  22. What if…on the last day of the window, we’ve bought no new strikers but, a Championship club comes in with a £15m offer for big Adam?…..

    CHAIRBHOY on 13TH AUGUST 2025 10:10 AM

    Bournesouprecipe @ 9:54 am,

FWIW Paul67 ran an article you’ll recall, where he said he was concerned that the transfer window went beyond the Sevco game ,and took in the qualifier. He knew for a fact that the best we’d get, was the end of window business. Could it be a Robbie Keane at 11.00 O’Clock in the car park stunt.

Brendan having a look at low buy players brought in, is a side show, his good housekeeping as we mentioned before. Transfer stalling ( they could have fixed the WIFI in the interlude :) is tied around Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate and maybe one other exit IMO.

These low buys must keep flowing in because it’s ‘ diamond in the midden ‘ all over again, they are vital to the strategy, who cares if they’re scattered to the wind some of them, still strung to the club.

The elite coach will prevail that’s what he does, that’s why DD brought him back, unless he gets sickened again in the process, – we’ll see.
