CELTIC FANS’ FAVOURITE FROZEN OUT

FRASER FORSTER will be frozen out when Southampton kick off their Premier League campaign this afternoon.

The former Celtic keeper won’t even get a place on the subs’ bench when Mark Hughes’ team face Burnley at St Mary’s Stadium.

And Forster, who quit the Hoops in a £10million switch to the south coast outfit in August 2014, has been told he has no future at the club.

The ex-England international No.1 has missed the opportunity of a move to a top-flight English team following the closure of the transfer window on Thursday.

Now the skyscraper shotstopper’s options are a shift abroad or a lower-league club.

Hughes is open to listening to offers for him. He said: “If it’s a good option, a viable option for him, then he would probably take it because he wants to play.

“He’s clearly a little bit frustrated, we’ll just have to wait and see.

“If there is interest or the clubs that are interested come in for him, it’s a decision he will have to have a thought on.

“If it’s not the right club for him, or the right country, or the right level, then as a manager I’m quite happy to have three outstanding keepers. We’re all a little bit selfish.”

Forster lost his first team place to Alex McCarthy last season and has slipped to third choice following the £13.5million summer arrival of Angus Gunn from Manchester City.

The 30-year-old ex-Newcastle star hasn’t made an appearance in the top side since the side’s 5-2 defeat against Spurs at Wembley on Boxing Day.

He has not featured at all since Hughes replaced the sacked Mauricio Pellegrino in March, including in pre-season.

McCarthy is expected to start against the Turf Moor side this afternoon with England Under-21 ace Gunn, who spent last season on loan at Norwich, on the bench.
