Celtic fans impact in Liberia

capture-20170530-221909Mary’s Meals were in touch with photographs and information from the Sean Devereux Primary School, Montserrado County, Liberia, the seventh school we have funded through Mary’s Meals. We started to raise money for this school at Christmas. Each school day, 253 pupils are fed a vitamin-enriched meal, paid for by you.

Liberia has chronic problems, exacerbated by the recent Ebola outbreak. Only 38% of primary aged children attend school, largely as a consequence of the economic necessity to work in order to eat. The meals you provide address this central problem, but importantly, it ensures children attend school for what is often their only daily meal. This access to education provides life chances which carry decades worth of benefits.

Daniel Folley, deputy head of Sean Devereux Primary, said, “The school’s population has increased [because of the Mary’s Meals kitchen], and academic performance is at a peak. Hunger used to rive children down, when teachers used to speak, they were not paying attention. Now they are able to learn more.”

In 15 years Mary’s Meals has grown from a shed in Scotland into a force which feeds over 1.2 million children each day. As they work in the poorest areas, your money goes far. It costs an average of just £13.90 to feed a child for an entire year.

The other big reason we like Mary’s Meals is that 93% of funds raised reaches the recipient. The organisation runs on just a 7% overhead, which is exceptional in the aid sector.

Online communities get a bad press, but you share this blog with a lot of great people.  See below.  This is how it feels to be Celtic!

Serial Loser, they shouldn’t be sad to see the back of him.

Does anyone know if there are any plans for a DVD of the Hydro event? What I have saw on YouTube is sensational. Would be a best seller IMO.

I was on the phone to a Tim in Adelaide over the weekend, I said to him I did not think the case would last until Thursday. He reads these pages he can confirm that.

I thought the crown would pull the plug, he thought that after all the public funds that have been sunk into it the Crown had no choice but to continue.

I’m being careful when I say I thought the Crown would have pulled the plug on this a couple of weeks ago.

Whatever the outcome, it has been informative, and some of what has been said in court supports the stance that the SFA were at the very least incompetent in granting the then Rangers a licence and at very worst complicit in a conspiracy to defraud all clubs in Scotland bar one.

All clubs in Scotland were out of pocket because of what happened. How do you quantify it… that is the big one.

I hope that if justice is seen to be done, not in the Whyte trial, but others, that Celtic along with every other club in Scotland, align to have history books ripped up and rewritten.

Criminals are not allowed to keep the profits of their crimes and the insane are treated with firm, but assertive kindness, these days.

Delusionalism can be delusional to the staunch but if allowed to breed feral then what chance ever an harmonious functional society?

I honestly hope that the law society in Scotland as a society has a pride in itself above all prejudice.

But I know in a couple of hours an Edinburgh jury is going to rip my hopes of fairness and equality apart.

No need for a defence . Leave the fabulous mess that is half the story stinking out the room . Fraud is very hard to prove when the alleged victim doesn’t seem to have given a fig beyond getting rid of the business

  6. Surprised Mr Black didn’t give evidence. No doubt there will have been good reasons for that. And real reasons too.

Assume the defence suggested there was no case to answer but the judge thought otherwise.

Anyone know if Corral are offering odds on the verdict?

Why has Whyte not been put on the stand? Surely if you’re accusing someone of fraud you would want to question him about it. If they are scared about what he might say then why bring the case in the first place.

Hampden Capacity is listed as 51,866.

Last season both teams really did sell out their allocation, including the debenture seats + hospitality.

Segregation was in place meaning 1,000 seats dont get used –

    2015–16 Hibernian (3) 3–2 The Rangers Hampden Park 50,701 [173]

This season, Aberdeen manage to announce they “sold out ” their allocation”. And the SFA was able to give Celtic 700 more seats in the debenture section of the South stand upper. Above the Aberdeen fans.

Anyone who was there though would notice several hundered seats empty at the front of the Aberdeen sections behind the goal. Plus several hundred empties in the south stand upper and lower sections allocated to aberdeen

    2016–17 Celtic (37) 2–1 Aberdeen Hampden Park 48,713 [174].

    What a cluster messy thing.

3,000 empty seats because of daft allocations, dafter still segregation, and what I can only think is a deliberate policy from the SFA to score a little hurt to the celtic fans.

There was literally hundreds of ticketless celtic fans outside.

3,000 seats at average £35, that £105,000 lost in revenue.

Hayes is Aberdeen’s best player, they will struggle to reach the standards they have over the last few years if he leaves. At 29, he has one last chance at a big contract somewhere whilst his stock is high. With all the uncertainty at Aberdeen i cant see Ryan Christie going back there. It seems McInnes is for the off along with McGinn, Ash Taylor and Jack. RC did well enough during his loan spell to justify another crack at Celtic.

  22. Interesting comment earlier about the loss of revenue through empty seats at Hampden. Funnily enough I thought the same when I watched us on television at Partick Thistle.

According to the commentators we had sold out our allocation but from the television pictures there were large amounts of empty seats in Thistle areas.

Now I know the guff about season ticket holders but surely where there is demand from us, or even them, these clubs could easily put a rider in that ST holders may be moved. The loss of revenue to the game up here must be significant. Or maybe the rest are just happy to be here!!

I believe you are in Sicily … or at least near there …. the doc (my doc, not the doc on CQN) wants to do a bike tour in September, and was thinking of 7 days biking around sicily. Will you have the kettle on for when I whizz by? And some good tunes playing? So you dont confuse me with Pedro Delgado (easy mistake to make, I know), I will be wearing the hoops!

If I am mistaken about the sicily thing, remind me where you are ….maybe we will take a short detour and come by for a visit?

Lisbon was a lifetime experience, up there with Seville but special in a unique and different way. A strange mix of emotions came over not just me, but every Tim I spoke to over there. Difficult to describe but the words nostalgia, joy, fulfilment, poignant, sentimental and most of all sheer pride, all come into it. I vividly remember watching on telly as a twelve year old and I’ll never forget the heart thumping explosion of euphoria which ran through my body on the full-time whistle. Those feelings came back in the Estadio but only after I’d walked around trying to take it all in for twenty minutes or so. I sat behind the goal watching the cyclists ride in (marvellous effort), spoke to a mix of people, most who were too young to remember it but two or three were there in 67. One of them was already in tears. Just after meeting our own Margaret McGill from the USA I wandered round to the platform down from where Big Billy received the Big Cup. As I stood filming on my phone, a guy I know jumped up and started playing Celtic songs on his guitar, kicking off with ‘in the heat of Lisbon. That was the highlight, everyone joined in and after I’d wiped the tears, I did too. Fantastic, emotional, just magical.

Walking back down to the train station we passed some old buildings which would have been there fifty years ago and again, me and my mates could sense something quite surreal, almost like going back in time, trying to imagine how those Celtic fans felt on that same walk, but as newly crowned Champions of Europe.

My mate and I met up with the Brazen Head crowd over there, fourteen of them. It was a throwback to the old Gorbals for some. They rented a house up a close which was meant for six, but managed to squeeze in everyone, apart from one guy Kevin who slept on the roof with his Celtic top on. What a sight that would’ve been for incoming flights which fly low over the city. Their base was a wee bar down by the docks called Revira Volta and what a turn big Fernando the manager got off us. He couldn’t do enough, serving up decent grub and big rounds for long sessions. The banter was priceless.

    Some other memories;

Pink Street awesome and Hennessey’s smashing too. The Inter Milan fan who went round our table shaking hands with every one of us. Meeting up with fellow CQN’rs Caleyroadbhoy, Mags McGill, Morrisey, Timreaper and Midfield Maestro. Speaking to the young lady who’d flown over alone from Bondi Beach to respect her late grandad who was in Lisbon. The Spurs fan (in Celtic strip) who brought over his da’s ashes to scatter. The many Benfica and Sporting fans who couldn’t be more friendly and in praise of Celtic.

Last word for BRTH; Fantastic work Jim, take a bow.

I never thought I could be any prouder supporting Celtic Football club but 2017, including Lisbon, has reached a new dimension for me. I’ll be back next year.

Well Folks, only just about coming around now after the weekend. Still on cloud 9 – I’ve never had a footballing experience like that moment when big Tom found the back of the net. Met the most amazing Celts over the weekend, early doors on the Saturday in Whistling Kirk, 11am up in McChuils chatting to the owner big Nick and the locals who had been in Lisbon in ’67 (and want to retire to my hometown of Galway when they win the lotto!), the chap with the rebel tunes blaring who stopped and brough us to Hampden (even though he was running late and was enroute to Hamilton to get changed before the match!) – The craic that Saturday night was something else, and staying just off Argyle st with the window open, all you could here was the 10-in-a-row song. Out in Maggie May’s with random Tims until 3am then back to the Whistling Kirk for 11am, more fun and games with the locals, then onto the Tavern on Tollcross road to meet friends of friends who had gotten us the tickets in the first place. Into the Tolbooth for the rebel tunes after the Charity game and befriended more Celts from all over Glasgow. The flight home i got a well deserved rest. Thank you Celtic for such a beautiful, magical weekend, and thanks to all the great people I met over the 36 hours of mayhem! Hail Hail, and keep up the great work Paul67!

Potentially another scenario. I know of a number of people who had tickets bought for them who subsequently couldn’t travel (from Aberdeen). Bear in mind Celtic tickets were individually allocated, in Aberdeens case it was “how many do you want”.

Perhaps the attendance is counted on entry as opposed to sold tickets??
