Celtic fans impact in Liberia

capture-20170530-221909Mary’s Meals were in touch with photographs and information from the Sean Devereux Primary School, Montserrado County, Liberia, the seventh school we have funded through Mary’s Meals. We started to raise money for this school at Christmas. Each school day, 253 pupils are fed a vitamin-enriched meal, paid for by you.

Liberia has chronic problems, exacerbated by the recent Ebola outbreak. Only 38% of primary aged children attend school, largely as a consequence of the economic necessity to work in order to eat. The meals you provide address this central problem, but importantly, it ensures children attend school for what is often their only daily meal. This access to education provides life chances which carry decades worth of benefits.

Daniel Folley, deputy head of Sean Devereux Primary, said, “The school’s population has increased [because of the Mary’s Meals kitchen], and academic performance is at a peak. Hunger used to rive children down, when teachers used to speak, they were not paying attention. Now they are able to learn more.”

In 15 years Mary’s Meals has grown from a shed in Scotland into a force which feeds over 1.2 million children each day. As they work in the poorest areas, your money goes far. It costs an average of just £13.90 to feed a child for an entire year.

The other big reason we like Mary’s Meals is that 93% of funds raised reaches the recipient. The organisation runs on just a 7% overhead, which is exceptional in the aid sector.

Online communities get a bad press, but you share this blog with a lot of great people.  See below.  This is how it feels to be Celtic!

I get your point, but right now would a previous success like Hartley and Robson move us forward?

Sights need to be set much higher.

  2. Another tuppence worth from me. I understand that BR knows Hayes very well from years ago. Hayes is an intelligent and good professional as well as an effective footballer.

He may not set the CL alight however he has qualities I admire in a player. Hayes and the lad Walker at Hearts are the best players outside of our squad in the SPL ( just my opinion) and both would be better squad players for us than Christie, GMS or Liam Henderson.

Thankfully the decisions will not be mine, I would welcome Hayes to our club. Night, all. HH

Hayes would be a signing on par with David Fernández…

Or Barry Robson? Or Paul Hartley?

    Or,Willie Wallace,Dixie Deans,Davie Provan,Brian Mc Clair,Andy Walker,Joe Miller,John Collins,Broony.

    Fed up now.

Given we play far more games than anyone else in our league, 59 in the season just gone, we need a strong squad. A player like Hayes strengthens the squad if replacing GMS, providing competition for Forrest and has the versatility that can cover a few positions.

Still hope we sign Roberts, although doubt it, or someone of similar quality/potential but signing Hayes won’t affect that.

I hope/expect three quality player to go straight into the CL first eleven, we can also improve the squad at the same time. We’re minted ;-)

I dont rate the boy Walker at Hearts, he’s done very little in matches against us and in other matches I’ve watched. He’s nowhere near the level of Hayes.

One of Sincy’s assets is his willingness to do his share of the dirty work and he will be back where needed without anyone needing to yell at him.

He has a great work ethic and understands that such aspects of the game NEED to be done(see the result of Griffs slackness on Saturday)

Perhaps Brendan has seen the willingness Hayes showed to defend against Forrest as a valuable trait he could do with in a wide man?

Yeah…..VERY naughty for banging in a couple of goals v The Invincibles.

  9. Gooooood Evening CQN:-)

No issue with Jonny Hayes, my view an improvement on GMS and James Forrest

    But

We also should be keeping Ryan Christie, the Bhoy has a bright future (only 22)

Looks like a 3-way fight for Virgil van Dijk now with Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool willing to pay £50m. Soton want £60m. #Celtic 10% cut.

Perhaps Christie feels that he needs to be playing first team football regularly, at this stage.

Does anyone think he will get that next season at CP? Especially if Armstrong is still here?

Hayes would be an admirable addition to the squad. First team ready, strong and consistent.

  12. What is the Stars on

One thing about Jonny Hayes that hasnt been mentioned

    He is from Dublin

Always nice to have a Dubliner in the team

Seriously though,he would be a good squad player and maybe Brendan could improve him tactically and fitness wise and he would be surrounded by players offering better movement etc

He wouldnt be top of my wish list but he is a decent SPL player

I think after the season we have just had we may just trust the manager on he wants to sign

Seems like SOAL actually is impressed by someone on god’s earth and defers to their judgment.

    Brendan son, you’ve arrived!!!

I see the talk about Hayes hasn’t abated. He’ s a pugnacious little player, not short of skill with a fantastic work ethic. Is he better than what we have though? Squad player in my book for SPL games and early stages of cup games.

  17. Headline on back page of the two main rags tomorrow, the Portuguese Pensioner telling us they’ll win the league next season.

Season ticket sales a bit slow?

Rangers signing Bruno Alves warns Celtic: I don’t settle for second best

He is obviously aiming for third place again.

  19. Re Hayes, I think Brendan has earned our trust. If Brendan wants him then that is good enough for me.

re Ryan Christie I would hate to sever the connection completely. Loan him to Aberdeen or sell him with a buy back clause would be my choice but again I trust Brendan.

I know that this is the silly season for rumours but I actually expect Hayes to sign.

  21. The mssm love this time of year.

Lots of stories of huns signing the best players in the world even if they are well past sell by date and future superstars snatched from under the noses of Real,Bayern etc.

Alve will get the Davie Weir treatment from Scotlands whistling cheats and be allowed to foul with impunity.Like that diddy Garner he will be immune to receiving cards.

This makes him a decent signing .

Meanwhile we will be subjected with stories of constant rejection and constantly linked with underwhelming signings.

Just like Lubo and Moussa were.

But unlike them we have a professionally run club with a very good coach and i will stay relaxed and put my trust in them.

Efe Ambrose agrees a two year deal with Hibernian. Story in Thursday’s @ScotMailSport.

    Good move for Efe

  23. INVINCIBLE 'GG on

I wouldn’t want to ditch Ryan Christie or Liam Henderson.

I would suggest that both are loaned to Hibernian along with Ajer.

Neil will instil the same values that Brendan espouses.

What, Celtic players would bolster Hibs’ challenge to Sevco you say?

    Push them down the division?

Maybe aye, maybe no, but I would certainly hope so.
