Celtic fans to blame, apparently

902

I see Celtic fans are being blamed for rumours of Newco’s administration by their former manager, Ally McCoist. He could argue that. Alternatively, you could suggest that a business unable to secure bank borrowing, dependent on funding from directors, who will soon be forced to find £11m to make a share offer, has created more than enough financial uncertainty without Celtic fans’ assistance.

McCoist suggested “even the biggest Celtic fans in the country” do not want to see Newco go into administration. Not so sure you are right there, Ally. Personally, I would find it a funny, but it is not going to change anything. It would not lead to relegation and will not change the title race in any way.

The most significant outcome of administration could be forcing control from Dave King. Which would be a source of enormous regret.

You hang in there, Dave.

The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

I love the fact that one draw against us, when we were very poor, has just changed the whole landscape for the Huns and makes them feel that everything is going to be Jelly and Ice cream for the rest of the season. They are bringing back all their duds and the MSM are bumming them up as new players/fresh start…again!!!

Meanwhile on another galaxy, the Bhoys are working hard, going about their business quietly and once more mingling with the fans. I know that Rangers are doing this in Florida, but they are fannies mingling with fannies.

I am one who would like to see Sevco disappear and no new entity formed. It would result in their supporters disappearing from sight and never coming to Parkhead again. I never missed them when Sevco were in the lower leagues and I would be happy if they never played Celtic again.

  22. HENDERSON HORSES Today,

A wee bit unlucky Bhoys and Ghirls, but I aint complaining, as Henderson had 3 winners today from just 4 runners that I put up this morning on the previous thread. the prices were, 3/1…,2/1 and 6/4.

The one that “Got Away” was the ODDS ON Horse at 10/11, which finished 4th out of 5 runners !

So the “Lucky 15” got beaten, but I still had a good profit that makes up for a rather poor week betting wise.

I’ll take 3 WINNERS out of 4 selections everyday of the week.

I hope some others may have back the winners ?

  26. Celtic Fans Will Get A Hotel, Sevco Fans Will Get A Crypt. You Couldn’t Make This Up.

Sevco have today applied for planning permission to turn a disused carpark near Ibrox into a … crypt. This is not a joke. The Evening Times is running with this story and it once again falls into the realms of “you could not make this up.”

They’re calling it a “memorial garden” which, on the surface of it is a lovely idea, and a nice tribute to those who died in the Ibrox Disaster, which is one of the central ideas behind it … but as ever they have other ideas as well and one is particularly morbid … and I am tempted to suggest that someone inside the club smells money in it.

    The Evening Times describes it thus;

    AdTech Ad

“The city football club have submitted plans to Glasgow City Council to build a memorial wall which would contain a section for the interment of the mortal ashes of Rangers FC supporters.”

    Uuuugh! Sounds charming, right?

We get a hotel. This is what their fans get.

But not to worry; it will have “an interactive pod with an Android tablet and charging points for smartphone devices.”

The plans are described as “ambitious”; it amounts to putting up a wall and building a fence round it.

Look, I think it’s a good idea in principle.

I see why some of their fans will appreciate it.

I am not knocking the central concept.

The Ibrox Disaster was one of the worst events in the history of Scottish football … a place where their fans can pay their respects is a nice idea. But this idea about allowing fans to have their “mortal ashes” there is just ghastly and cheapens the thing.

The question is whether a place there will be cheap.

Did someone in marketing suggest this?

“Honestly, you wait and see … it’ll pay for itself …”

So will a hotel, of course. They’re more expensive to build though.

When you see what Celtic has done in developing the area surrounding the ground, you had to wonder if Sevco would find money in the mattress for something, anything, to brighten up the area around their own crumbling ruin.

How fitting that it’s a graveyard for rich fans.

Like I said, you couldn’t make this up.
