Celtic flattered Salzburg and AEK

240

When you are knocked out of Europe there is a hope that the victors go on to do well in the tournament.  Valencia overcame Russian fourth placed club, Krasnodar, in the Europa round of 16, but it took a 93rd minute goal to rescue what was an away goals elimination.  Less impressive that Villarreal, who walloped Russian leaders, Zenit, 5-2 on aggregate.

The consensus was that Salzburg were the best team we faced in Europe this season, but they were unable to overturn a 3-0 first leg deficit to Napoli.  Napoli are at a multi-decade peak, adrift of Juventus but comfortably ahead of all others in Italy, but still, when we faced Salzburg they looked strong enough to withstand an evening in Naples.

Valencia may yet make a late push for the trophy, but at this stage, it looks like we were beaten in Europe by teams with limited potential (and let’s remember, AEK lost all six Champions League group games).

Leipzig continue to occupy a Champions League qualification spot in Germany and will still be wondering what went wrong in the Europa League group stage.  That was a worthy scalp, but we flattered Salzburg and AEK.

    Agreed and likewise…………

I was surrounded by Englanders most my career and the fitba’ brought out the worst in them, while my memories as a kid supporting Scotland had a different feeling and perspective. I also never, ever got into that Hate England guff.

” We Italians are well used to the fact that some of our politicians are not averse to a bit of bribery as they attempt to get what they want -watching the farce from ” the Mother Of Parliaments” in the country formerly known as Great Britain has me wondering if some of our lot are paying some of their lot to behave in a way which makes our lot look good ”

  5. POG,

Is that petition designed to undermine the wholly fair and informed democratic process in this country ;-))

  6. Jeepers, Had a look at this Petition site. Obviously can’t sign it as I’m not a UK resident but I’ve never seen anything like it. Put a stop watch on it and there were 4,000 signatures in one minute, Weird I love that kind of stuff. Will try it again in a few minutes 688,000 present figure,

  7. Mon Scotland , into these Kazaks. First time we’ve ever played them.

Delighted for Cal Mac getting the captaincy , I’m sure he’s well pleased to be captaining his country. Another marker struck that illustrates his ascendency over the last few seasons and will only boost his confidence and belief. Bain will grow in stature aswell if he cements his place as the No1.

Wonder if Morgan will get any game time?

Hopefully get the three points and we’re off to a good start and no injuries to our bhoys.

Venezia is great . Bit busy and can be a bit smelly at low tide . I’d avoid eating / drinking in places which exist to fleece tourists and go to places where people who live there go to eat and drink.

  11. You just got in David, Crashed again. Whenever it’s opened up it only lasts about 5 minutes before going down again. Fascinating.

  12. Petition signed. I’m not holding my breath though, as I’m still waiting on the second referendum that I, and over a million others, signed up for months ago.

It’s got me thinking though. Why don’t the Government just set up two petitions today. One to brexit on “The Deal” and one to revoke article 50.

    Winner takes all.

Instead of this incessant “let the people decide” and ” the people have already decided” debate.

  15. Seems the Revoke Artice 50 Petition has made the news…but I believe that it won’t make a blind bit of difference to the incumbents that populate the english parliament…lets be clear here…it was the southern English, in a last gasp vote in their own superiority, that brought us here ;-))
