CELTIC GAME SWITCH

CELTIC’S scheduled Premiership fixture against Motherwell at Fir Park has been pushed back 24 hours to Sunday October 27.

The match was originally due on the Saturday, but has been switched to accommodate live coverage by Sky Sports with a 3pm kick-off.

The champions’ encounters in Lanarkshire last season turned out to be dramatic occasions with the results in doubt until the fading moments.

In the opening game on September 30, it was balanced at 1-1 after a late strike by Luis Palma – his first strike for the Hoops – had been cancelled in stoppage-time by Blair Spittal.

DIDN’T HE DO WELL…Matt O’Riley nets the dramatic stoppage-time winner at Fir Park in September last year.

However, Matt O’Riley had the final say with vitually the last kick of the ball when he emerged at the far post to first-time a left-wing cross from Greg Taylor past the stranded Liam Kelly for the points-clincher.

And it was just as enthralling when the sides locked horns again on February 25 with Spittal once more netting for the hosts to give them the advantage at the interval.

Back came Brendan Rodgers’ men in the second-half with substitute Adam Idah heading in a brilliant equaliser five minutes after replacing Kyogo Furuhashi.

In the fourth minute of added-on time, the Republic of Ireland striker, who joined the Parkhead men on a permanent £9million deal from Norwich City in the summer, touched in a low right-wing crosss from Alistair Johnston and the visiting fans were still in raptures when Palma netted a third and final goal.

Earlier this month, it was announced Celtic’s league game against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Saturday September 28 had moved to a 5.45pm kick-off.

The original start time had been scheduled for the usual 3pm slot, but has now been altered to suit live coverage from Premier Sports.

The champions will also be beamed live by Sky Sports when they travel to Dingwall to face Ross County on Sunday October 6 which will commence at noon.
