Celtic get passing rhythm right

148

Hearts manager Neil Critchley had clearly watched Celtic’s home defeat two weeks earlier.  The visitors pressed Celtic from kick-off, unsettling the champions.  There was even a repeat of an early corner kick drama.  Again the Celtic defence failed to attack the ball and a chance fell to Lewis Neilson.  If anything, the Hearts player was too close to goal, as Viljami Sinisalo’s frame on the line blocked his route to goal.

Celtic got off the hook on that occasion but the game was soon to turn their way.  Jeffrey Schlupp took a pass from Maik Nawrocki and moved the ball on with his first touch to Callum McGregor, who was already on the move.  McGregor controlled the ball before playing a delicious pass around the Hearts defence and into the path of Daizen Maeda, who slid his shot past Craig Gordon in the Hearts goal.

Whatever intentions Hearts arrived in Glasgow with were then undermined.  Having split them open once, Celtic were able to again.  Midway through the opening half, Nicolas Kuhn cut inside and chipped for Maeda, whose timed run caught the Hearts defence stationary.  Jota finishing the rebound off the post was another example of moving attackers meeting stationary defenders.

The first two goals came from the wings but the third, through the middle, was a text book example of crisp and fast passing.  Nawrocki took out four Hearts players with his forward pass to Arne Engels, who nudged the ball into the path of Reo Hatate.  When Reo poked the ball on to Kuhn the entire stadium knew the third goal was on the way.

With their gameplan in ruins, Hearts retreated to a defensive block for the second period.  They needed to take that early chance from a corner kick. The champions are not flawless, but if you pass up chances, you are likely to leave with a defeat.

Killie game , easter sunday, 12:30 kick off. probably , hopefully the day we win the league.

Sorry if i am missing something here.

This game is not on Easter Sunday which is one week later and on which we play St. Johnstone in the semi.

“Rangers” can still get 86 points so, if that happens, we need 3 more wins which eliminates the possibility of winning on 12th April unless they lose to Hibs at home on the 5th and ,as they play Aberdeen away on Sunday 13th, we could not be certain of winning the league until we knew if they dropped points that day.

More likely we will have to go to after the split when we should only have 2 home games left so the odds are a title win away from home.

  5. The responsibility for hundreds if not thousands of empty seats at CP rests solely with our board.

If Nottingham Forest, Brentford and the likes of Fulham can get their heads around a ticket exchange scheme then God only knows why Celtic can’t.

but just had a chuckle at the story on sky news website about that Le Pen witch in France.

the story has the following in it –

“On his X page, he has pinned to the top of his profile the words: “31 mars 2025. RIP la democratie en France.”

That translates to “31 March 2025, RIP democracy in France”.

Did a fire alarm go off at 75 minutes ? why the mass exodus ?

    😀

it was like that right enough.

but i have to say the weather on saturday were some of the worst conditions you could ever watch a game in.

driving rain and near gale force squally winds.

i am in the upper tier so sheltered from the worst of it and i was still baltic.

but how folk in the lower tier even lasted until 75 minutes is beyond me, especially since the game was done long before that, they must have been soaked through and red raw faces.

so instead of having a go at them i think they should be saluted for turning up and staying that long while baring the brunt of the conditions

FWIW. The league title is over, no competition in the league, so at this stage in the season plenty will happily miss and cherry pick their games. Season tickets no longer guarantee spectators, our club is now stockpiling money and the stadium and match day experience diminishes. We can’t carry on like this buying better players, that no -one else in our league can afford can we? We should be buying projects only cheap of course, sell high of course. It’s just not fair on the rest, think of our competitors.

If the title was close, it would been packed or nearly packed. The home attendance began to drop months ago, when the huge points gap appeared and Saturday’s empty seats were inevitable, score five and six and there are still complaints, finish the game in the first half, more moans. Meanwhile that last mile or two distance to Celtic Park, is getting longer, instead of shorter in the modern age.

Celtic are happy to embrace the season ticket culture that puts a set figure up front before a ball is kicked, and literally saved the club in the nineties guaranteeing a Celtic in 2025, and beyond. The clocks go forward times are changing fast, we have officially avoided season ticket holders reselling or transferring their tickets for years, there’s nothing much in it for the club even though some non season ticket supporters would clearly benefit. Other big clubs are different of course plenty do it, some do it free of any charge, simple digital transfer of your season ticket for specific games to other supporters.

Too much hassle for Celtic? for whom the digital age approaches will they patch it again and use the argument that ticket resale doesn’t guarantee more filled seats and might instead encourage more supporters to engage in cherry picking, thus becoming ‘landlords’ of their own seat(s). We can’t have that can we? but kicking it down the road won’t do, the club has plenty of scope for spending money on supporters on match day, or other stadium days.

Boredom and complacency is enemy number one, empty seats and leaving early is just another red flag, with some even watching the game ending in the concourse TV or in the pub, rather than in the wind and rain. The choice between a league game and a CL game is stark, Celtic might prefer season ticket holders just pay up and turn up, they might want a ‘closer competition’ with certain away fans on board, a healthier better for business Rainjurz and more old firmist thinking. Pay at the gate is gone forever, what would Saturday’s attendance have been if there were no such thing as a season ticket, and the club were reliant on who bought single tickets, match by match.

Have you heard the one about Celtic needing a strong Rainjurz?

INTRODUCING OUR ‘EVERY SEAT, ‘EVERY GAME’ POLICY

Following our recent announcement, the new policy being introduced from Season 2025/26 means season ticket holders must ensure their seat is used for at least 15 Premier League home games per season, to avoid any risk to renewing their season ticket for future seasons.

Season ticket holders unable to attend a Premier League home fixture are reminded of the options available to them to ensure their ticket is used:

Option 1 – Return your ticket to the Club using the Ticket Exchange

If you return your seat for a Premier League home game via the Ticket Exchange and your seat is re-sold, you will receive 100% of the cost of your seat back (i.e. the value of your season ticket divided by 19 games). You have the option to receive your money back in following ways:

Choose for the funds to be added to your Ticket Cash account after the game has been played. Any funds you hold within your Ticket Cash account can be spent against future online ticket purchases.

Have the funds transferred directly to your bank account within 10 days after the game has been played.

Click here for a step-by-step guide.

We encourage season ticket holders who are unable to attend a Premier League home fixture to post their ticket on the Ticket Exchange as early as possible to maximise the opportunity for re-sale.

However, if you post your ticket on the Ticket Exchange and is doesn’t sell, although you will not receive the cost of your ticket back, it will still be counted as a used seat.

For more information on the Ticket Exchange, including times of when the Ticket Exchange is open for any given fixture, please click here.

Option 2 – Forward your ticket to registered Friends or Family

Season ticket holders can use the official club channel to share match tickets with friends and family in a secure way, while also making Anfield more accessible and safer for fans by knowing who is in the stadium.

You can forward your ticket to one of your registered Friends and Family members in a secure way.

Sharing your ticket via our ticket forwarding service for a Premier League home fixture will still be counted as a used seat.

    ———————–

Liverpool FC has confirmed the season ticket renewal period for 2025-26, alongside details of a change in policy to fill every seat at every game.

The season ticket renewal period will begin the week commencing March 17, with season ticket prices having been frozen for next season.

Ahead of the new season, the club is appealing for season ticket holders to ensure their seat is filled for every home game from next season, even if they cannot make it themselves. This is to protect and enhance the atmosphere inside Anfield, where every fan counts and every voice matters.

The introduction of ‘Every Seat, Every Game’, the club’s new season ticket usage policy, will encourage season ticket holders who are unable to attend a game at Anfield to post their seat on the Ticket Exchange or forward their ticket to someone on their Friends and Family list.

This season an average of almost 500 general admission season ticket seats have been left empty for Premier League home games.

The club’s ongoing consultation with the Supporters Board has contributed to this new change and discussions will continue on developing a range of ticketing policy changes for next season and beyond.

Supporters have told the club in a recent survey that access to tickets is their single biggest concern, and the club’s updated ticketing principles, which were created in consultation with the Supporters Board, include the ambition to make ticket access a realistic goal for all supporters, while maintaining Anfield’s atmosphere and support for the team.

Any empty seat at Anfield is a missed opportunity for more fans to be in the stadium. As access to tickets has been identified as being so important to supporters, the ‘Every Seat, Every Game’ policy means season ticket holders will need to ensure their seat is used for at least 15 Premier League home games per season from 2025-26, or risk not being eligible to renew for future seasons.

Tickets posted on the Ticket Exchange will be counted as a used seat for season ticket holders regardless of whether the ticket sells or not. Tickets sent to Friends and Family via the ticket forwarding service will also count as being used. As a reminder, the deadline to use the Ticket Exchange and forwarding services is one hour before kick-off.

Throughout this season the club has contacted season ticket holders whose seats have been left empty to remind them of how they can help other supporters access tickets and the club will continue to do this going forward.

Those fans who face exceptional circumstances during the season which mean their seat is not used will be able to contact Supporters Services for assistance.

Alongside this announcement on season ticket usage, the club will continue to look at how to ensure all seats in the stadium are used, including member and hospitality tickets.

Once the season ticket renewal window opens, supporters will be contacted by email and will be able to visit the club’s dedicated online season ticket renewal hub to view more details and FAQs about the new policy, as well as other important information about renewing for the 2025-26 season.

The PLC will play “ the waiting list “ card for those that get bored enough to consider folding. But there will come a time soon, when we can’t rely on ‘once and done’ season ticket sales, because the experience can’t possibly be the same as it was under Martin O’Neill.

We already have a Celtic ‘prawn sandwich’ brigade that’ll blame anybody but the board who ramp up digital sales ( oops there’s my St.Johnstone email in ) but only when it suits.

  26. ta, found a reference.

    Liverpool way off the pace

A surprise exclusion from this list to some, especially given their stadium capacity of over 61,000, is Liverpool, who only allocate 27,000 of those seats to season ticket holders. However, this isn’t because they can’t sell more season tickets, in fact, they comfortably have at least the second-largest fanbase in the league.

Instead, it is likely due to financial reasons. Fewer season tickets mean the Reds can sell more general admission tickets, which are more expensive for fans over the course of the season and, therefore, raise more capital.

    Everton exceeding expectations

Everton, on the other hand, not only have more seats for season ticket holders at Goodison Park than Liverpool do at Anfield but also a higher percentage of seats too,

More surprisingly, during the 2023/24 season, and likely the 2024/25 campaign too, the Toffees actually have a higher percentage of season ticket seats in their stadium than anyone else, with a whopping 79% of the ground reserved for such supporters.

With the club’s relocation to Bramley-Moore Dock expected at the end of the season, this figure will likely see a sharp decrease, but for the time being, Everton hold top spot in this metric when looking at percentages.

  27. !!Bada Bing!! on

my point is that under liverpools system option 2, the person you give it to will need to have been previously registered by you as friend or family – and they will get charged for it.

but if im a liverpool fan, my first option if i cant make a game is to give it to a ‘friend or family’ for free but not through their scheme.

then if no one wants it i would do the ticket exchange option 1.

option 2 is totally irrelevant to me.
