Celtic get the ball rolling with Griffiths

318

So Leigh Griffiths is set to be a Celtic player today.  I bet we could all guess a few topics covered at induction.  He is in because he scored 23 SPL goals for Hibs last season, more than anyone at Celtic achieved, and is currently Wolves top scorer with 12 goals.

Despite appearing to predictably win games 4-0 recently our problems in attack are evident.  Anthony Stokes is our top striker but has scored less than half Kris Commons’ total, while defender Virgil van Dijk matches or better the rest of the strikers tally.

Leigh is the second striker we’ve brought in this month but at 6’2” Holmbert Fridjonsson is a completely different proposition.

More later on this and others, I’m sure.

Rangers, meanwhile, have rejected offers from Nottingham Forest for full-back Lee Wallace. BBC Sport understands Forest’s bids for the Scotland international, 26, were below the widely speculated £900,000.

Yeah, I think we all kind of guessed that!

Would cost a lot more than £2.5mil to replace him but with six months left on his contract it’s a no brainer.

  5. Chris Sutton was seen as a risk – he had a pitiful time at Chelsea – In fact a distinctly remember him arguing with his own fans at one particular game – he obviously never doubted himself.

I remember my mate stating that he echoed concerns about Sutton’s signing – I, much to my pride in retrospect said – If he gets his confidence back he will score and score for Celtic.

Style of play currently of pressing high up the park or defending from the front requires mobile hard working advanced players narrowing angles with midfielders following up and in rotation helping to create opposition panic and mistakes. The subsequent loose balls tonight were picked up by in large by Efe who knew his advanced team mates would encourage these mistakes. He must of broken the NFL interceptions records- fantastic and he too is helped by the cover for him from Virgil, Darnell and the deep midfielder (again rotated). Great team play.

The advantage is obviously steeling possession when a team looks to advance, but, much higher up the park meaning less build up play required, less time in own half and more chances against a team structured to attack not defend. Sorry for the long post but for me this is exactly where Teemu Pukki comes in, he IMO will be our Dirk Kuyt who was critical to Benitez’s tactical style(Compact was the word he always used). Benitez tried to sign him for Valencia before Liverpool. I think Pukki will definitely play in Euro away matches and tight home matches, he will help keep Neil’s team shape as one of two advanced midfielders/forwards on right or left(with a striker! up front) when we don’t have the ball and moving into space when we do. A lot of people didn’t like Benitez’s style, but, for me, that sort of shape and discipline would do us a world(or continent) of good in Europe and I think we’re slowly getting the personnel to as is Neil’s wishes. Just my take, really enjoying watching our team at the moment, HH;-

Now it might be that the airline commonality is just a coincidence or that the booking software used by some is generic.

The issue was to do with the compatibility between my browser which was Windows 8 compatible and the site I was connecting to that could not handle that version.
