Celtic growing into their skin, more on Maribor

1610

You could see Celtic mature during last night’s game.  They were defensively solid during the first half, and Craig Gordon was assured throughout, but for the best part of an hour we scarcely tested St Johnstone.

That changed after the goal, which arrived just as St Johnstone were enjoying their best period of the game.  Kris Commons didn’t have his most productive night but it was his pressing which led to the break through.

During the second half Ronny Deila replaced Commons, Stokes and the tiring Forrest with Boerrigter, Inge Berget and Kayal.  Even before the home team were reduced to 10 men moments after the final substitution, Celtic were clearly in a more comfortable shape.  Players were finding space which didn’t exist earlier.

Maribor made seven changes for last night’s Slovenian Super Cup Final, which they won comfortably against opponents who are pointless in the league after four games.  Celtic’s scouts are unlikely to have learned too much useful information ahead of next weeks’ game.

What is clear about Maribor is their aerial threat.  Five of their 12 goals this season have been headers, which may influence Ronny’s team selection.  They also break quickly down the flanks, so maybe a 4-5-1, offering protection to our full backs, is the way to go.  Hopefully we’ve learned we’re not quite ready for 4-3-3 away from home in Europe.

The Slovenian media are dismissive of Celtic’s chances, encouraged, it seems, but continuing celebrations from Maribor that they pulled an “easy” draw.  I suspect they’ve yet to see the Celtic who will take the field on Wednesday.

I think Izzy should be aware of his form slipping. So. Izzy, if your reading this smarten up. You were better when you first arrived. Just a word to the wise Izzy.

  4. Had a read back at the hurting BBC Scotland article regarding CAS and their ability it overturn UEFA decision. It is from none other than Richard Wilson the former Herald reporter on all things Sevco and Dave King cheerleader.

I wouldn’t take it too seriously esp when you see his favourite all time ScotsXI and he has Gascoigne in as well as his hero one of the Andy Goram’s

Yep , Richard sure is hurting. BBC Scotland ‘ football department’ would give North Korea a run for their money.

Another welcome addition to the Celtic family.

From the second it was revealed that Legia had played a suspended player in a cup tie those who have had experience of football rules even down to under 10 age group leagues could have told you what the result of committing that gross incompetent error in administration would be, forfeiture of the cup tie, no exceptions!!! clubs have been thrown out of cups for less incompetent paperwork breaches, UEFA heard the case in seconds decision as per their rules a 3-0 win for the opposition against the team playing a suspended player, a complete open/shut case

Personally gave the blog and the media a total miss over this case due to the nonsensical drivel written around the case

UEFA are not bound to CAS decisions, they are a stand alone body, if all clubs in every affiliated association took all cases to CAS and overturned decisions such as punishments for playing suspended players football would be finished

See this big target man striker we are all banging on about . We ‘ve got him. It’s just that we play him at centre half.

    Sign a centre half.

CAS will throw out Legia ‘dry yer eyes’ Warsaw’s appeal. The rules are very clear, which is why UEFA had no other option than to throw out the appeal. CAS can only deal in facts. They cannot, for instance, rule on the basis that the punishment does not fit the crime, as that is entirely objective.

Even in the extremely unlikely event that CAS find in favour of the Poles, UEFA are under no obligation to accede.

Sion were kicked out of the Europa League for deliberately fielding 3 ineligible players and Celtic were reinstated. Sion’s UEFA appeal was kicked out and they took it to CAS who agreed with UEFA and advised – note advised not ordered – UEFA to reinstate Sion. UEFA completely ignored the advice of CAS and Sion disappeared with their tails between their legs. CAS found in favour of Sion due to a different interpretation of how many transfer windows they had served for their transfer embargo.

There is absolutely no way UEFA will reverse this. It’s all about Legia trying to save face with their supporters.

See if you’re one of them, stay away for good, f…king sh…bag attitude! Think of the fans we have all over the world who would love to get to a game, and also fans who aren’t allowed to go, and we have folk ‘just not interested’ & ‘can’t be a….d’. Will it still be the same when we eventually get back to the top of Scottish football, and back in Europe etc? It kills me that I can’t go due to the silly laws that we now live under, and we have folk not interested. F…king bullsh…t & these folk need to have a long hard look at themselves.

Last nights steeplechase, the Spanish team protested as per the rule regarding your number must be on display throughout the race, consequences of winning the protest were a Spanish runner being made up to bronze medal position despite coming quite a distance behind the winner and the Spanish now have a extra medal to their total of medals

Legia argument on this issue our guy won comfortably! so comfortable he decided to give the opposition a chance by taking his shirt off whilst running and jumped the last hurdle shirt in hand risking unbalance, how can the Spanish take that bronze when your guy was thrashed, have the Spanish no shame…………………….etc etc
