Celtic happy to wait for McGinn, Sports Direct, Valiant Valur

260

The exciting shock in last night’s big game saw Icelanders Valur record a 1-0 home win over Rosenborg in the first qualification round of the Champions League.  Whoever wins this tie faces Celtic (caveat acknowledged) in the second round.

There is a long way to go for Valur, Wednesday’s game in Norway will be a major test, but even if Rosenborg emerge, it is encouraging to see them stretched, rather than comfortable winners.  Let’s hope Valur have a famous day in Trondheim.

Sports Direct were back in court against Newco yesterday, with a judge confirming their case had merit and deserved High Court consideration.  A judge would not agree to hear a civil dispute unless steps had been taken by the pursuer to settle the matter out of court.

This raises the obvious question: Why didn’t Sports Direct and Newco just get his sorted out before incurring significant legal costs, not to mention the embarrassment of yet another ‘favourable settlement’?

It is possible that the Newco’s day-to-day management do not have the levers in place to make decisions like this, and that those who are able to make such decisions exist in a fantasy land.  But there is another possibility: one party might want to take this all the way.

Newco have already made it known that delivery of replica shirts will not happen until next month at the earliest.  If Sports Direct are in in for the long haul, that could be very optimistic.  Not that Newco have done or said anything to create ill feeling at Sports Direct.

It is clear Celtic want John McGinn but he will not be crucial to their plans next season.  If the player is happy to wait, Celtic are too.  They can offer him a pre-contract in five and a half months.  Moreover, they can use the £2m they offered Hibs for McGinn to strengthen elsewhere.  An option is being considered.

You would think Hibs would figure where this is heading and accept an offer, but Rod Petrie is still chairman, so don’t expect anything logical to happen.  This one has a 1 January 2019 feel about it.

  1. I can remember, in my youth, that an OO walk used to take place in Troon of all places – late 60s/early 70s – and then ‘terminate’ in one of the three CoS churches there are in the town.

At the time my parents used to run a cafe in the town which had a balcony at the back on the first floor which was only partly visible from the street.

A few of us would arm ourselves with rotten fruit, tomatoes and eggs and bombard the bassas, taking care not to be noticed obviously. They never seemed to twig where the missiles came from exactly! Some of my fellow ‘lobbers’ were residents of Kilwinning, Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston. Mad bampots!

Never been one there for about 35 years I reckon.

Absolutely disagree. We WILL NOT cower behind closed doors in our Church when they pass. These croppy boys will lie down no longer!

BMCUWP believe me when I say that this has the full attention of Holyrood and Westminster at the moment. there are plenty of things going on at the moment. Senior politicians and senior police officers are right in the middle of this.

I will report more when I can.

  9. random question for today.

how do you get on the “away tickets” selection process ?

  10. Shaquri, signs for Liverpool, for 13 Million, would have liked to have seen him in the Hoops, but that’s to big a price for our club,as for John McGinn,if Celtic are prepared to wait till January, for free, good, but to be honest,we have a good squad of players,so I think we will.go on next season of what we have, and I’m sure the Hotel and Superstore, Museum, new Ticket office, will.take up a lot of money to get built, and I’m sure that the complex, needs to be built and ready in the next 2yrs, that’s the timescale The Council has put on it.

New work on the stadium has to be started within two years, I think the term is ” breaking ground”. once you have started it can take as long as it takes.

Have to go, I have to keep a hyper 8 yr old busy for a few hours.:))))))))))

can you book stadium tours in the superstore or has it got to be online?

Totally agree. Preferrably we’d have McGinn in the summer but we do still have Brown, Kouassi & N’Cham in the number 8 position. McGregor has also slotted in there in the past.

It’d be good to resolve the issues at CB as well. Either Boyata signs a new deal or he’s sold and replaced.

  14. With its close proximity to Glasgow Centre,I am sure the proposed Hotel will find plenty of interest from investors.WOuld be surprised if one of the big chains wear not interested.Holiday Inn,etcetera. With the work we have put into it,I am fairly positive, its a goer.

Did say in the past week, you can petition all you want, talk, all you want, nothing will be done about the scum walks. If all we are prepared to do is sign a petition, and moan on Blogs,be prepared to swallow it for the rest of your lifetime. The petition was always going to fail.It should have been about these cretins going past Catholic churches.Ban that. The whole episode was out there in the public domain. The GCC would have been a lot more hard pushed to ignore that sentiment.

  16. The CH position,at the moment,is not,to me anyway,a problem. We would not be able to afford better than Simo,or Dedryck.Ajer gets better all the time.We have to wait to see what Boyatta plans before we can do anything.Just the way things have worked .No way will Celtic have 5 CHs on the books, especially if BR is intending playing two up front as seems very likely,I can’t see right back being at the top of our list either.Looking at things presently,3 at the back looks the way BR is going.

Totally agree re orange parades . No one is going to sanction the stopping of them . But routes should be clearly defined where they are allowed to march . .
