Celtic harvesting the mascot generation

343

With St Mirren’s top of the table and derby clashes out of the way, Lewis Morgan attended a medical this morning ahead of his potential move to Celtic. The 21-year-old can play in left, right or central advanced midfield positions.

The player is out of contract in the summer and now free to choose his next contract, although a training compensation fee would be payable, the level of which Celtic have reportedly agreed with St Mirren. It is an indication of the times we live in, when a former Rangers mascot makes Celtic is his destination of choice.

That training compensation fee would not make him Celtic property until summer, so St Mirren are right to resist a little extra cash to part with him early, with their promotion push at a critical phase.

When Brendan Rodgers spoke after our Scottish Cup tie against St Mirren in March he suggested the Championship side were the best domestic opponents we had faced that season. Morgan clearly made an impression the manager followed up on.

*Big fan of CBC, their dramatic series are usually outstanding also their documentaries aired on the Passionate eye are excellent especially those about whats going on down south. Unfortunately that fat barrel of scheidt harper cut of their funding.,

tontine tim if your about this might be nonsense, but vaguely remember my grandad taking me to a game at cathkin park, but maybe talking rubbish cause dont know if celtic were in the same division ,but bear in mind albion rovers were my grandads second team.hh.

*was never at a game there, closest was a replay against the hi hi which was switched to hunden in anticipation of a huge crowd.

They were a big team at one time and next to QP our closest rivals in terms of ability.

    Big Packy,

I remember the White City. It closed about 72-3 to make way for the motorway.

*last job I worked on before leaving the country, it was used as a lay down area for the construction company.

  4. Just read an items on the BBC news for Glasgow , a mechanic who defrauded HMRC of 208k got 18month in the slammer today, I just dont see the difference with EBTs and what this guy did. I am not saying he should have got away with undeclared earnings but the EBTers and the DOS ers seem to have.

  5. Dessybhoy- Whyte never paid £10m in tax,vat ? They play with different rules than the rest of us at that midden.HH

  6. Big Packy,

Were you asking if anyone had attended a match at Cathkin? I have been twice, I think. In the 50s, Thirds were a good team. We played them a couple of times in the Cup, which went to replays.

  7. Just seen the Windsor councillor’s comments, re getting the homeless out of sight for the royal wedding , disgusting……..he tweeted his comments from a skiing holiday in America, these people need emptied….

  8. Big Packy,

I watched Celtic play Third Lanark at Cathkin Park , and played there once with the school team

In later years I played with Third Lanark juveniles, but the HiHi were out of the game by then

  9. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Third Lanark: My recollections of Cathkin (nae googling) is early days of going to games had Robertson in goal and Ally McLeod tho I don’t think at the same time and we played them every season more or less.

In addition I was in the same probables V possibles final u16 Glasgow v London schools trials with Dave Hilley first half only for me but that’s another story who played with 3rd Lanark along with Alec?Harley C forward They had good teams late 40s and 50s.

  10. Just watched the Andy Murray news item.

    Sad stuff.

But why after ever 4 hour tie does he need to carry his own rackets

  11. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Third Lanark: my recollections nae googling is we played them many times and they had Jocky Robertson in goal and Ally MacLeod on wing but not necessarily at same time, mid forties or late forties early 50s

I played in the final trial Glasgow v London u16s schools with Dave Hilley for Probs v Poss,he got picked I didn’t but that’s another story, who played for Thirds along with Alec? Harley later about 57 or 58 I would think good team then and in same division as Celtic often.

I have asked and will continue to ask until this mess unfolds.

One thing is for certain though. History won’t be kind to anyone that colluded with or profited from the return of the corrupt cabal from Ibrokes.

Looking at the ‘Transfers Out’ and ‘In’ I hope we haven’t entered another period of ‘downsizing’ in preparation for Sevco having their ‘share’ of the CL money.

    Big Packy,

Third Lanark played in the First Division in the early 60’s with many good players, including Hilley, Harley, Gray and my favourite was the goalkeeper Jocky Robertson. They played out a 4-4 draw with Celtic in 1960/1.

Many Celtic players played for them including Bobby Evans as a player coach and I believe he was the caretaker there where he also worked in a local forecourt garage beside Cathkin on Cathcart Road. Dunky McKay played for them afer leaving Celtic. Tom Maley played earlier.

Cathkin Park was regarded as the finest playing surface in Scotland. Holy Cross Boys Guild played their homes games there in season 67/68.

Parkheadcumsalford I am sure you attended some games in the 60’s there. It was arranged to meet a former colleague of yours for the first time there at the request of my brother.

Delaneys Donkey, hope you are well, only getting back to you now Re. Joe Mills it was Holy Cross, Crosshill were he gained his experience as did Mick Conroy.

Looking forward to a rejuvenated Celtic in 2018.

*1962 I was at the replay at the neighbouring park due to crowd concerns which were proved correct as over 50,000 showed up on a chilly March night, Alex Byrne scored a cracker, it was like an exocet.

Unfortunately the other side of Celtic contrived tae lose the semi at hades to St Mirren after cuffing them 5-0 five days earlier at Love Street.

  17. Of course it’ll all be there in black and white in the Sevco accounts won’t it? SMSM successful with mythological Rangers created on Caixinha’s and his alleged spend that grew with each passing game till they settled on £8M – £10M

All nonsense of course that exploded just last summer, I’d wager they’ve bought literally nobody.

Every window Sevco ‘spend’ more and more money, but it’s only ever spent in SMSM who cannot cobble together enough fake news to outspend a Celtic sell on clause.

Right now they are busy trying to offload ‘stars’ who didn’t make the cut to mid winter in Scotland , if they do, let the first instalment commence for the next cast off daft enough to head for the Loandome.

While Sevco keep themselves busy Rangers liquidators are preparing peanuts for the creditors.

  18. Remember game at Celtic Park,63/64 season. 4 up after 20 minutes. Third Lanark with Hilley and Harley fought back. full time 4-4. Glad Big Jock came back

You may be right. After all, we’re all getting on but my recollection is that we scored first but were 1-3 down at HT.

After the break we scored three – and it could have been a lot more. In the last minute big Frank Haffey secured Thirds their replay.

I remember it as if it was yesterday? what day was yesterday? Our scorers were Lennox, Turner (remember Paddy) Divers and Frank Brogan, unfortunately my bible does not give times for the goals. Maybe some of the “Old Bhoys” can keep us right.

  22. Non-football related. I was watching the excellent Miriam Margolyes last night on her tour of the ole US of A and it sparked a question in my head that neither me nor the wife could answer. Who is the patron saint of the USA?

Nae Googling, like wot I did. Any US Tims know the answer?

As regards the huns and their money tree I’ve pointed out on here in the past that when MASH sold his shares half were bought by some 17th century organisation and the the other half were bought by some Chinese dude called Julian Wolhardt. From the day of that purchase I don’t recall hearing anything more about the said Julian Wolhardt. Chinese laundry does come to mind though.
