‘CELTIC HAVE NO CHANCE AGAINST BAYERN,’ PREDICTS VOGTS

FORMER Scotland boss Berti Vogts insists Celtic will be two-time losers against Bayern Munich.

The German predicts the Bundesliga giants will win BOTH of this month’s Champions League games against Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Vogts, who won only eight of his 31 games in charge of the Scots before being sacked in November 2004, said: “I think Celtic have no chance in Munich.

“This really is a must-win match for Bayern. If they can’t win their matches against Celtic, they won’t reach the last 16, so I am afraid that it is just too important to them.

“The new coach, Jupp Heynckes, has come in and I really think it is a bad time for Celtic to play Bayern.

“In fact, I can see Bayern winning both matches because they know if they win both matches they are through to the next round.”

Vogts also reckoned the club made a mistake in sacking Carlo Ancelotti following last month’s 3-0 flop against Paris Saint-Germain.

The 70-year-old former coach said: “I cannot understand why Bayern got rid of Carlo Ancelotti.

“He has won the European Cup twice and won the league last season. And he was right when it came to leaving Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben out of his team – one is 33 and the other is 34.

“There is a big difference between having them playing at home and playing them away from home at a place like Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

“So, I think he made the right decision to leave them out. Also, Jerome Boateng wasn’t 100 per cent fit, so he selected another good young player, Niclas Sule, who plays for the national team.

“The only problem was that you saw players from the French team who were much quicker and stronger than the German team.

“Carlo knew that, he said the time is not right for Ribery and Robben, so we start with young players. But they lost 3-0 and now Ancelotti has to go.”

Bayern last week confirmed the appointment of 72-year-old Heynckes, a former Borussia Monchengladbach team-mate of Vogts, on a contract that will keep him at the club until the end of the season.

The ex-World Cup winner added: “Jupp has a lot of expertise and had success when many of the laptop coaches were just being born.

“He knows what a player feels and needs. He loves football and just wants to help Bayern.

“I am firmly convinced that Bayern will again become German champions this season.”
