Celtic have not found magic formula for transfer windows

203

We got deals done early in the January window and surprised on the upside by signing Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal 10 days ago.  This led some to believe Celtic had found the magic formula to get deals done early always.

I see evidence of this faith everywhere.  What about Jota, why are we dragging our heals with that left back?  It is as though everyone online has the ability to see the value in getting deals done early, but those responsible for getting deals over the line are oblivious to this fact.

Celtic have not reinvented transfer window dynamics.  Carter-Vickers loan deal had clauses in place that gave Celtic control over what happened.  The players we recruited from Japan in January were not subject to competitive bids from others in Europe.

If you are an Argentinian club with a left back that is subject to a bid from a Champions League side, why would you sell early?  You have one club on the hook, if the player is any way adequate, there will be others monitoring him.  The club’s motivation is to get as many active bidders as possible.  Only then will they discover their best price.

The same goes for players and agents.   Why agree a deal unless there is only one possible buyer?  This is the way football transfers work and nothing has changed since the windows started.  If you want someone with a competitive profile, unless they have a buy-out clause, be prepared to be messed around for a while.  I expect we will land more of our top targets than we will miss this summer, but don’t kid yourself that any player will come to Scotland if he has an offer from the top half of the English Premier League.

I believed you until the pint bit, surely a nice Portuguese port! por cierto.

  3. Good article on Sentinel Celts, by mahe, re HarryKewell’s appointment. Along the lines of he may step up to No.1 if Ange leaves in 3/4 years’ time, after watching Ange’s ways of managing, formation, and tactics, interesting idea, thoughts? por cierto.

Pebble in the pond — the need for a growth agenda and a T/O somewhere north of £200mill.

    ———————————————-

There is realistic ambition and there is fantasy. £200m is not possible within the confines of the SPFL. Unless the board decide that season tickets start at £3,000 .

A lot of 3rd party ownership in South America, agents, sports companies etc, always a bit more complicated…

To be fair they had a long run – I’m sure we’d be up there with a similar amount of games

We had an option to buy Jota, allegedly.

    So where is the issue.

You ever thought he could still under contract St.T.

Is a T/O target of £200mill — in 2030 approx — out of our reach?

We had a T/O of £70mill in 2003 and 2004 — what was the season ticket costs at that time?

We need to look beyond your board friendly / fearty economics and look to what is out there / what is possible.

Plan for the future and build the club up to what it can be.

More of the same — lazy PL inspired nonsense — is not what we need.

I fear that the same attitudes that hold us back regarding Europe will come into play — we listen to the excuses of the lazy board and accept their second rate efforts until the TFOD2.1 make some sort of progress and we are left asking why we cannot achieve the same?

We either build for the future or we stagnate and descend into long term insignificance.

We are something and we could be a lot more if we had the desire to make the most of the opportunities that are out there.

AP has opened up the world to us.

We need to build on that vision.

  11. I very much doubt that we have been fine NINE times in one season by UEFA, I also doubt that we have been fined £117.000 in a season either, I stand to be corrected of course.

Still don’t think we use the bosman well enough……Joe ledley last one I can remember…though bound to be more ….just wish we’d use it more

  13. At base level, this just comes down to deconstructed third-generation concepts.

The solution can only be facilitating policy innovation , Forward-looking companies invest in facilitating organisational capability.

So we’re going forward with our plans to implement ‘Outside the box’ third-generation matrix approaches.

Think you need to take account of what the fines were for, never mind the amount of bad behaviour comparing Celtic supporters with Hun hordes?

They are out of control throwing objects onto the park fined by UEFA, throwing objects including bottles and glass onto the park in Scotland? …..Nada.

Agree 100%, I have been say the same for years, we may well have to weigh in a tad more wage wise, but at the end of the day, well worth it IMO, this is where a decent scouting system well pays for itself.

Just take the example of Big Vic and VvD, both identified by a bloke who sat all day on the computer, going through all the stats et all, wasn’t appreciated and effed off.

I missed the first two Matrix films and just watched the most recent one. I hope we are not using that plot as a basis for football finance.

Not just the top half of the EPL we are up against Paul . The lower half and one or two Championship aspirants as well . Even the CL group games might not hold sway .

I take your point – but our use of flares is dangerous to our own fans.

Were they punished by the SFA / Spfl for the glass incidents

    ——————————————

Absolutely a target of £200m turnover is out of reach by 2030. Our record turnover is £102m, achieved with CL Group stage followed by one round in the Europa after Christmas. Domestic treble also included and profit on player sales. To achieve £100m plus, all the stars aligned.

Playing in the SPFL, there are not enough stars in the universe for Celtic to achieve £200m turnover.

  20. I watched the Third-generation Concepts in the old Burns Howf – they were well ahead of their time

  21. If only we could time travel , we could watch them again sometime in the future .😵

  22. Adi

They could still be fined or a section closed – we’re not talking points deduction

  23. Hi ghuys.

I bring you some sad news.

My good friend FAIRHILL BHOY has informed me of his wee sister Isobel passing away during the night.

If you could keep him and the family in your thoughts and prayers it would be very much appreciated.

    R. I. P Isobel.

  24. RIP Isobel – prayers for the repose of your soul and thoughts for Fairhill Bhoy and all your family.

  25. Go tell the Spartim on

Thoughts and prayers sent, though I only know Fairhill Bhoy from here. And thoughts and prayers to all that are going thru challenging times.
