CELTIC HOPE FOR UEFA RULING REPEAT

0

CELTIC are waiting anxiously for a vital decision from UEFA that will go a long way to determining if they are to be awarded their ninth successive title.

The champions are 13 points ahead in the race for the title with only eight games remaining and are expected by many observers to be rubberstamped as valid and worthy winners of the 2019/20 crown.

However, as tension grows – and speculation from some corners borders on the hysterical – the Hoops can be boosted with the news the last time Europe’s football bosses had to rule on such a situation they declared the winners to be the team who had been currently in pole position, according to a report in the Sunday Mail.

In 1999, the First League of Yugoslavia was halted after 24 games and TEN games to be played because of NATO bombing of the country.

Partizan Belgrade were just two points clear of Obilic, but when football was given the all-clear to resume later that year, UEFA and the Yugoslavian Football authorities declared Partizan the 1998/999 victors.

Decisions will need to be taken among Scottish football chiefs who are likely to ask European football’s governing body for guidance, about champions, promotion and relegation.

If PM Boris Johnston declares the league seasons in the UK to be over, as CQN reported earlier today, it will be decision time for the respective league supremos.

Until such a historic event, the game is in abeyance because of the coronavirus pandemic, but it is almost certain there will be movement early in the week.
