CELTIC IN £2m TRANSFER SCRAMBLE

CELTIC face a £2million transfer tug-of-war for Uruguayan left-back Marcelo Saracchi.

The 28-year-old fans’ favourite impressed at Martin O’Neill’s double winners during his season-long loan from Boca Juniors.

It appeared certain the Hoops would offer a permanent deal to the international defender who was primarily used as back-up to Kieran Tierney, but still managed to rack up 27 appearances in all competitions.

ON THE BALL…fans’ favourite Marcelo Saracchi in control.

Saracchi also contributed a valuable Premiership goal with the opener in the 2-1 victory over Livingston at Parkhead on February 11 when debut Bhoy Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain netted a stoppage-time winner.

The 32-year-old former Arsenal, Liverpool and England midfielder has, of course, just signed a 12-month contract at the champions.

Celtic have been slow to follow up their initial interest in Saracchi and media outlets in South America report that Independiente have made the player their “main target” as they hunt for a new left-sided full-back.

Saracchi still has a year to run on his Boca contract, but has been told he has no future at the Argentinian giants, as CQN reported last week.

Other teams from the MLS and Turkey have been alerted to the player’s situation.
