CELTIC IN CUP DRAW DELAY

HOLDERS Celtic face a delay before they discover their fate when the Premier Sports League Cup last-16 draw is made this evening.

The ballot will be made after this afternoon’s group match between St Mirren and Scott Brown’s Ayr United in Paisley which will kick off at 3pm.

The Hoops lifted the silverware after a thrilling penalty-kick shoot-out triumph over Philippe Clement’s Ibrox side after a 3-3 stalemate at Hampden in December last year when Kasper Schmeichel denied Ridvan Yilmaz and Daizen Maeda tucked away the fifth and deciding effort.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will be seeded and joined in the draw by last season’s beaten foes alongside Premiership teams Aberdeen, Hibs, Dundee United, Motherwell, Hearts, Kilmarnock, Livingston and Falkirk.

UP FOR THE CUP…Hampdcen heroes Kasper Schmeichel and Daizen Maeda share a hug as Adam Idah and Cameron Carter-Vickers prepare to join in after Celtic’s Premier Sports League Cup penalty-kick triumph last season.

Championship clubs Partick Thistle, St Johnstone and Morton will also be involved with third-tier Alloa the lowest ranked side to make it through.

Dundee, who were eliminated after losing their opening two fixtures, are the only top-flight side out of the tournament so far, with St Mirren aiming to progress later today.

Neil Lennon’s Dunfermline still have a chance of qualifying as a best placed runner-up, but will have to rely on the Paisley side failing to beat Broony’s Somerset Park men.

The draw will be broadcast live on Premier Sports 1 immediately after this afternoon’s game. The ballot can also be viewed live on the Premier Sports Player.

Last-16 fixtures are scheduled for the weekend of August 16/17.

Quarter-finals are due on September 20/21 with the semis on November 1/2.

The showpiece occasion will be at Hampden on Sunday December 14.
