CELTIC IN PREMIER SPORTS CUP DRAW: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

0

CELTIC will discover their Premier Sport League Cup opponents when the draw is made around 5pm this evening.

Brendan Rodgers has won the trophy three times in his four attempts over his two stints as Hoops boss.

After three successive triumphs – Aberdeen (3-0, 2016), Motherwell (2-0, 2017) and the Dons again (1-0, 2018), the Parkhead gaffer suffered defeat last season in the third game of his comeback campaign.

The Hoops, who had clinched the silverware in the previous two years under Ange Postecoglou, introduced summer signings such as Maik Nawrocki, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Odin Holm and Yang Hyun-jun against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

ONE…Brendan Rodgers with the League Cup – in its Betfred guise – in 2016.

TWO…Brendan Rodgers with the League Cup in 2017.

THREE…Brendan Rodgers with the League Cup in 2018.

Unfortunately, the new-look Celts didn’t click and a 59th-minute goal from Marley Watkins inflicted the first domestic Cup defeat on Rodgers at the 25th hurdle.

The Irishman will find out later tonight which team will attempt to stand in the way of the Parkhead men getting back on track in the competition with the games due on the weekend of August 17/18.

The Final is scheduled for Hampden on Sunday December 15.
