CELTIC IN STRIKER TUG-OF-WAR

CELTIC have agreed an initial £2.2million fee with Dutch club VVV Venlo for striker Georgios Giakoumakis.

However, reports insist personal terms have become a major stumbling block in the move for the towering 26-year-old Greek frontman, according to Dutch media outlet De Gelderlander.

Ange Postecoglou has been allowed to talk directly to Giakoumakis as the Hoops boss covers all bases in event of Odsonne Edouard leaving in this transfer window which closes in six days’ time.

German second tier side Werder Bremen are also interested in the prolific marksman who claimed 33 goals for Venlo last season, but his strikes could not prevent the club from being relegated from the Eredivisie.

The player was omitted from the squad at the weekend as he pondered his future. The bid from the Parkhead men includes a sell-on clause entitling the Dutch outfit to a percentage of the hitman’s next transfer, which is believed to be in the 15 per cent region.

Giakoumakis WILL move before the deadline and, while there is also interest from Qatar, it looks like a straight fight between Celtic and the club who lost their Bundesliga status last season.

The Dutch media report: “Giakoumakis has his sights set on a move to Werder Bremen.”

It would appear the Germans are doing their level best to put together an acceptable financial package for the forward in their efforts to go straight back into the top flight while the Hoops hierarchy believe they have made a sound offer to the player and the club.
