CELTIC IN WORLD TOP FIVE

CHAMPIONS Celtic have been named in fifth place in the prestigious Club World Ranking awards for 2019.

Each year, the respected International Federation of Football History and Statistics publish their list of the 400 most successful teams of the previous 12 months.

The list is based on results in both domestic and international football with each league and competition around the world being ranked by their importance by the Swiss-based football organisation.

And, while Champions League winners and current Premier League pacesetters Liverpool are winners by some distance, the Parkhead side’s performances saw them make the top five for the first time.

Celts played 55 games in the calendar year and lost just seven while claiming two trophies – their eighth successive Premiership title and the Scottish Cup – during their unprecedented treble treble sequence.

Those successes put them behind only the Anfield outfit, Barcelona, Manchester City and Brazilian side Flamengo on the list of the most successful teams of the year.

The Hoops finished ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Ajax.
