Celtic income down 21% after drop from Champions League

747

Celtic’s turnover slipped 21.1% last season to £51.08m (2014: £64.74m), almost wholly explained by the drop from Champions League to Europa League competition. Operating expenses dropped by a smaller amount to £53.27m; higher than income, but by a very manageable amount.

The club’s cash position at 30 June 2015 was a positive £4.72m, although this figure will stray into negative territory during the season. Net exceptional costs were down to £740k, considerably less than the £4.089m paid out a year earlier, when the management team moved on.

Profit on the sale of intangible assets (football players) was £6.773m, down considerably from the £17.052m from the previous season, and a bit of a surprise given the expected impact of Fraser Forster’s sale to Southampton. It’s possible that Newcastle United received a dividend from the Forster sale. Total loss for the year, after interest, disposals and acquisitions, was £3.947m.

“Investment in football personnel” was up slightly to £9.42m, the amortisation charge for the year was £7.313m.

It’s clear that Celtic can continue to operate at current levels but the impact of Champions League revenue on all aspects of the club remains stark.

On the club’s wider place in society, chief executive, Peter Lawwell, noted:

“Charity forms a fundamental aspect of the club that we aspire to create. Charity lies at the very heart of Celtic; it is part of our DNA.

“I am delighted to say that the Club and its supporters does more now than we ever have done for charitable purposes, most notably Celtic FC Foundation, which continues to grow from strength to strength and to inspire all those involved with it.

“The continued commitment of our supporters, shareholders and partners is crucial; I thank you for that commitment, which we will do all that we can to repay.”

That might be what a green hun is to you but it ain’t why the term was first used.

Way back when you couldn’t use a message board if your missus was on the phone, it was a term to describe someone who couldn’t say anything positive about Celtic.

For the record I wouldn’t class anyone as one for giving the board it tight from time to time. :)

    Hail Hail fella.

A wee bit inaccurate about Johnny Collins doing a Bosman on Celtic coz, Celtic didny stop the huns from equalling 9 in a row.

Johnny Collins left Celtic on a Bosman after the hun 8 in a row.

The end of a season that started with, Fergus trying to sell JC to – Derby / Middlesborough….JC took on the Bunnet….stood his ground and, went to a club more deserving of his talents, Monaco FC, JC was instrumental in his new club reaching the CLSF, defeating Man Utd on the way…playing at a level that he knew was light years away from Celtic…sadly.

Interestingly….Wim wanted to bring back, PVH and, JC after he stopped the huns getting 10 in a row…two players who would hardly bankrupt the club as Fergus later alluded to during the Wim & Murdo departures….only at Celtic eh, win the first League Title for 9 years and, get sacked coz of…the balance sheet…sound familiar?

Anyway, did Fergus put Celtic first when he denied Wim the opportunity to bring in two players who…imho….would have found Celtic Park a very different place to work under the Jansen & MacLeod footballing set up….or, was he afraid of the the return of these two players putting his nose out of joint?

Johnny Collins and, big Pierre would have been transformed under the watch of, Wim & Murdo.

A midfield with – Collins – Burley – Lambert…a big Pierre partnered with Henrik, being challenged by a Darren Jackson getting back to full fitness, WOW!

Would the above mentioned components in a Celtic side driven by Wim have blown our chances of qualifying for our first ever shot at the CL group stages and the money-pot that goes with it in the same way that a, Dr Jo just off the plane, quagmired in bonus-bust-ups did?

Did Fergus put his hands up and admit that his….bull in a china shop interference in the footballing side cost Celtic FC a £15 million CL-money-pot?

Think of all those thin dimes Fergus.

Johnny Collins took Fergus on and…won….that’s why he didn’t get back.

Wim was a maverick in the dressing room…refusing to be Fergus’s puppet…that marked his card…no matter how good Wim was…he was going…know why?….coz it was all about Fergus.

Johnny Collins was a maverick in Tommy Buns’s(RIP) Celtic team on the pitch…having to play outwith the McStay and Grant clique which was encouraged by a, mismanaged-dripping-in-cronyism-Celtic-dressing-room.

First sign that TB was a puppet…TB wanted to buy Dundee winger, Neil McCann(aye that one)…Fergus told TB to develop Brian McGlauchlin(sp).

Johnny Collins is a fire-in-the-belly-sh#t-from-nobody-Tim…who knows the game…give him the keys to the dug-out.

Gerry keep happy-clapping with yer Celtic-View-Blindfold on.

    Goodbye.

  6. I don’t think I’ve looked forward to a league game so much as this for yeeeears!!!

This is what I’ve been harping on about to my off blog mates….we don’t need the huns. We need a strong rival and right now the dons suit that just fine for me.

I hope we go up there and win 4 or 5 nowt today but if we do I’ll guarantee you, especially after yesterdays accounts announcement, that all we’ll hear next week is that the league needs a strong rangers.

It has now been revealed that last years management team, NL et al, were paid off to the tune of circa 4m. That clearly signals that they didn’t leave of their own volition despite how it was portrayed to us. What are your views on that?

  10. Morning Timland from a cooler hun free mountain valley.

Looking forward to the game today, hopefully our new boys get a run out.

I reckon the result will come down to how Thompshun performs.

Aff oot to the market for a few things.

As ever the clappers have fek all to say, only attack those whom they disagree with, hunnish imo.

  11. It’s funny who you see things differently with age.

I remember sitting in the North Stand during the height of the MON era, when the only question was would we score 4 or 5 against that day’s opposition.

Sometimes, I actually didn’t want us to score from a boring old move – I knew we could do better and felt we should only score beautiful goals!

The feeling from many then was that they would welcome a more competitive league.

Now we’ve got it, the same people are up in arms.

Well you see that’s the point,it’s not time to time, it’s constant non stop same thing day after day, month after month, and year after year, it became a holy grail for them and they can’t turn back, it’s went to far, we need a rehabilitation room in here to give the negative junkies a fix, and ween them slowly away from there agenda, and the road they have taken,.

  13. Bright start to the day in Corcaigh………..

I predict a blood’n’snotters tussle with the dandy dons this afternoon. This is the toughest they will be all season.

Victory to Celtic as long as it’s a fair fight.

Remember, remember – scoddish fitba’ was downsized by sleekit skullduggery carried out with the connivance of wee men with even smaller minds who couldn’t see further than their innate disdain of all things Celtica..

    They are still at it.

Like the jersey, Celtic never shrinks.

    The stage just got smaller.

  14. Just had a wee read back to find that Turkeybhoy, the angry sychophant, fell into my rather crudely constructed trap of saying the game was on a sip day (as indeed did some other posters ever eager to attack Celtic supporting credentials).

    It really is very funny.

Anyway what time is the kick off Tomorrow?

  15. Geordie..,

A green hun is all things to all mhen :)

In fact the phrase was coined on here and we had differences even then, the term for me has went from someone coming on and quoting the SMSM as fact to somehow legitimise their argument.

But over the last few years watching people treat concerns about how the club is being run with the evidence openly available, as if those concerns were unfounded and the attacks on anyone who raises their concerns are set on by the storm troopers who refuse to consider the concerns but simply here to silence dissent is becoming more like a hun shop all the time.

Ps income down. CL qualification is the bench mark

Poor planning and scouting has lost that income. Hence the drop in turnover

Nae offence, but gonna do something about your spellchecker.

We all cock up now and again, but Bletchley Park would struggle sometimes.

  20. Italiabhoy I think you miss the point somewhat. People are angry not because we have got a competitive league but because of the reason why. It isn’t competitive because Aberdeen have become a world class team, it’s competitive because Celtic are getting worse and worse and worse.

  21. Kev

Jonny Collins quote at that time was “if we win the league I would have stayed” so you may be correct which was even worse he could have stopped the BoS sponsored select getting 9….. By the way I have nothing against JC (John Collins) but don’t understand the swiftness of backing somebody who choose to leave while berating our Peter who didn’t leave

Hopefully 99% of us want the same thing but differ in options and while am at it am sure Turkeybhoy paid whatever he paid to watch Celtic

(Kev I love the Celtic View, as a wee bhoy it was a treat and Pravda or not it’s vehicle should always be positive for the club since it belongs to the club)
