Celtic’s revenue for the interim six months to 31 December 2013 fell 11% to £44.8m (2012: £50.1m), while operational expenses also fell, by 7%, to £34.3m. The club had £5.7m cash in the bank, £5.6m more than a year earlier.
A few factors behind the figures:
We played fewer home games, 16 as opposed to 19 the previous season, and although you may pay your season ticket up front, the club only recognises the income when games are played (cash at bank is recognised as soon as your payment lands).
Profit was up to an incredible £21.3m, from £14.9m), largely as a consequence of the sale of Victor Wanyama, Gary Hooper and Kelvin Wilson last summer. Without wanting to go into the who ‘A word’ (it’s not 2004), money coming in from player sales goes straight to profit whereas money going out on player purchases hits profit gradually over the period of the player’s contract.
Investment in players was almost identical to the previous year, £5.0m from a 2012 figure of £4.7m.
Financially these are great figures but there are potential weaknesses lurking. The club are absolutely dependent on reaching the Champions League group stages more seasons than not. This brings significant revenue – and supports whatever player valuations the club will be able to achieve should they sell. It also acts as the most effective tool to attract talent to Scottish football.
Finishing fourth in the Champions League, not second, is the most significant factor in the interim drop, but it will have a more significant impact on the second part of the season, which will be without a knock out stage round.
Celtic are still repointing the club away from the arms face they fought with a lemming club but they have delivered the key on-field objectives, which in itself takes care of the finances.

ON the other hand, we may have infrastructure in place to make it that quick. Cables etc may be permanently installed so that equipment can be plugged straight in. Other stadia may not have such niceties, meaning cable has to be laid, then lifted. This side of things takes a lot longer than you might imagine.

Gg…
If a club of Celtic’s standing can’t successfully negotiate qualification past the diddy teams in the Champions Route of qualifiers then there really is no hope for the Plc.
Even fat Sally might manage that with that level of funds.
You have gone more than a tad too far. LOL
Oh aye, cop for these.

A lovely wee story from Tannadice
Roberto Martinez recently visited DU and he was very impressed with their youth set up and he fully endorsed their training methods. He suggested that he would be very keen to send some Everton youngsters on loan, but Jackie Mac told his youth team
trainer he would prefer to keep the pathway to the first team open for his own young players.
It’s great to see young players getting the opportunity to flourish

They may well be the champions of their country, but that does not mean a great deal. These teams have been stripped of their best players, and any who are still playing for them just dont cut the mustard.Very few of these players will be internationalists.I am not decrying these teams, but we SHOULD be too strong for them.It does not always work out that way in football,ie,last season. The season before we strolled through against these teams. We are going into this next campaign with a settled side, unlike the shambles last year.

We’re also going into this qualifying group of games playing “home” games away from home and with players just coming back from World Cup duty and playing clubs perhaps midway through their season.
This is a potential banana skin i.m.o.

Things getting tetchy over on the RIFC Shares Discussion Board.
“The abuse dished out to Mr MacGiollabhain here and elsewhere is unpalatable and unjustified. Is anyone really suggesting that he would make up stories only to be found out as being to be wrong later? In fact there hasn’t been a single fact (please name one if you can) in relation to Rangers and its re-incarnation that he has put forward that hasn’t proven to be correct. I’d be concerned about VAT, CEO, Deeds, Overspending, extreme Contracts, ownership etc if I was a Rangers shareholder. And yet still the options is there, when will the charm offensive begin? It could have been so very different if the Company had looked to win friends and.goodwill instead of always behaving like a Crimean War Bat. Commander.”
Turkeybhoy,
“These teams have been stripped of their best players”
You were on here last July/August claiming the very same about us.
If we don’t pay Hector and sign 6 more quality players wouldn’t that be an unfair sporting advantage would it ? Can’t be surely ;)

I can agree with should beat instead of will beat.
However, if Elfsborg were drawn against Aberdeen or United, I would have no confidence in a Scottish victory.
If we played Aberdeen or United, we win most but a loss is not a rarity.
Therefore the likes of Elfsborg can and will beat us, at times, because that happens in Sport. Even to teams that paid £12m pounds for their Centre Forward.
Here’s one for the Uni mob, do you know what a ying yang is? Well I do now. ;)

Was in getting tickets there – sneaky Celtic trying to force 116 on us when I knew 111 & 112 had loads left.
Anyway sky were setting up for their coverage tomorrow, so I sauntered over and asked them how long it took to set up and break down for a game – the collective opinion was 2 and a half hours all in. The rest of the time they spend eating burgers and playing candy crush on their mobile phones…
