Celtic’s revenue for the interim six months to 31 December 2013 fell 11% to £44.8m (2012: £50.1m), while operational expenses also fell, by 7%, to £34.3m. The club had £5.7m cash in the bank, £5.6m more than a year earlier.
A few factors behind the figures:
We played fewer home games, 16 as opposed to 19 the previous season, and although you may pay your season ticket up front, the club only recognises the income when games are played (cash at bank is recognised as soon as your payment lands).
Profit was up to an incredible £21.3m, from £14.9m), largely as a consequence of the sale of Victor Wanyama, Gary Hooper and Kelvin Wilson last summer. Without wanting to go into the who ‘A word’ (it’s not 2004), money coming in from player sales goes straight to profit whereas money going out on player purchases hits profit gradually over the period of the player’s contract.
Investment in players was almost identical to the previous year, £5.0m from a 2012 figure of £4.7m.
Financially these are great figures but there are potential weaknesses lurking. The club are absolutely dependent on reaching the Champions League group stages more seasons than not. This brings significant revenue – and supports whatever player valuations the club will be able to achieve should they sell. It also acts as the most effective tool to attract talent to Scottish football.
Finishing fourth in the Champions League, not second, is the most significant factor in the interim drop, but it will have a more significant impact on the second part of the season, which will be without a knock out stage round.
Celtic are still repointing the club away from the arms face they fought with a lemming club but they have delivered the key on-field objectives, which in itself takes care of the finances.

Regarding the lower tier football on BBC1, Sky138 old episode of Grand Designs is on.
I don’t particularly want to watch it, but it’s better than a slugfest and Brownie points gained before going out tomorrow.

Hail Hail!
PS: The new style would have been better in my opinion in the traditional colours, never did like the black and gold strip we had. All about opinions though. Well done to you and Doc.

The winners of Albion v stenny or alloa v Dumbarton for Newclub in next round!?
Any takers?
————————————————————————
Depends. If Raith, Forfar or Stranraer go through then Sevco will get them at home, and the winners of the above two games will play each other so Sevco can get them in the semis.

Just had a look on YouTube and getting really excited about the prospect of Tony Watt developing into a top,top class footballer in a league environment superior to the SPFL.
This kid is sensational and what a player the Hoops might have next season.
Reminds me of why we watch football in the first place.
Meanwhile…….some people are getting excited over a balance sheet.
Jim Jeffries is so concerned that he has left his seat in the Copland Rd Stand;to get to the Dunfermline dugoot
So Dunfermline won 4-3.
I guess you get what you pay for.
Not to worry Celtic should knock out Dunfermline easy.

Neil Lennon: Something has to be done
By: Paul Cuddihy on 07 Feb, 2014 18:01
IT will come as no surprise to anyone to hear Neil Lennon declare his pride and honour at being the Celtic manager. There is a select band of men who have occupied that role since 1888, and the Irishman cherishes his position in the club’s history.
He has already proved himself a success since taking over, winning two league titles and two Scottish Cups, and last season he became only the third man after Jock Stein and Billy McNeill to win the double as a Celtic player and manager.
He’s now targeting a second consecutive double, with the Scottish Cup holders playing host to Aberdeen this Saturday.
With his side unbeaten after 24 league games this season, and having set a new club record for consecutive league clean sheets, there is much to be positive about.
Yet while he remains positive in his footballing outlook, there’s no doubt that the events of last weekend, when he was targeted by thugs while at Tynecastle to watch the League Cup semi-final between Aberdeen and St Johnstone, have left him angry, frustrated and at a loss to understand why this incident occurred. The media reaction to the incident hasn’t been helpful either.
“There is an investigation ongoing now,” he said. “I don’t want it, I don’t need it. I’m not happy with some of the stuff that’s come out this week in terms of myself – journalists saying I attract it, that it’s my confrontational and controversial nature. For me, that’s very irresponsible towards me.
“I’m no more confrontational than any other manager in the SPFL. However, when it’s an issue regarding me, it seems to me to be imbalanced. You cannot have people throwing coins at you when you’re trying to do your job, yet some people see to think it’s my fault.
“Why this happens, I don’t know. In the past there’s no question it was sectarian, there was sectarian elements to what happened to me. People want to bury their head about that but I don’t. I want it said. I want something done about it. This last week, there’s no evidence of a sectarian element, but certainly there was a hooligan element.
“I love being the manager of Celtic. It’s a privilege and an absolute honour. I work with great people at board level, fantastic people in my backroom staff, and I work with a group of very talented young players.
“That’s a lot to give up and I don’t want to give it up because I’ve worked very hard to be in the position I’m in, not just as a player but throughout all my life.
“To be the manager of Celtic – there have only been 17 other men in the history of the club who have done it – means a lot to me.”
And as he prepares his side for what will be a tough Scottish Cup tie against second-placed Aberdeen, who last weekend booked their place in the League Cup final, the Celtic manager says that it’s a game supporters of both sides are looking forward to.
“I have a great relationship with Aberdeen,” he said. “We do as a club, and I get on very well with Derek and I have a lot of respect for him. This won’t sour the relationship between me and Derek, or me and Aberdeen.
“I don’t think it will have any effect on the atmosphere tomorrow. Both sets of fans are looking forward to the game. It’s first against second and it’s a cup-tie.”
Very conflicted, which badge should I buy, wait till the night
to see which one goes with my suit…….once I get it oot the pawn.
