Celtic interims report turnover up

571

Celtic published a decent set of interim results this afternoon for the 6 months to 31 December 2015 but chairman, Ian Bankier’s address gets down to business with, “One the park, it has been a frustrating season”.

The sale of Virgil van Dijk contributed to a £12.6m income for player trading, balanced by £6.1m spent on the acquisition of Jozo Simunovic, Scott Allan, Saidy Janko Ryan Christie and Nadir Ciftci. This brought pre-tax profit to £11.7m, with cash in the bank at £7.7m (up from £5.3m a year earlier).

Turnover was up by an inch to £31.4m as the club traded at an operating profit for the period of £1.564m (before player trading). The second half of the year is devoid of European football income, not that the Europa League is that much of a game changer.

I know financial stability isn’t an end in itself, but it’s important nonetheless.

It wasn’t the Spanish Civil Servant who was picking up a wage despite not attending work for the last 6 years? They only discovered that fact when they decided to present him with a long service award :-)

I’t was good to read your last post and it coming from a respected blogger as yourself.

It will maybe give weight to the posts from good Celtic men on here, that feel if they post anything derogatory about the way we’re being run they are less a supporter.

The Tom, dick and Harry approach in our signing policy of late, has put our team back to the macari years.

Some say we can’t afford better players as it will affect the wage structure, like others I say tough…if you want to be on the top wage earn it on the park.

This nonsense that we can’t have a couple of high earners is being used to appease some, more and more are getting sick of seeing 4/5 players coming in and picking money up as they warm the bench.

Give us some quality, push the boat out, or we will slowly sink. HH

  7. For my sins I’ve just listened to the BBC Sportsound podcast from last night and found it, even by their own very low standard, quite, quite amazing.

At 28:50′ in we had the most ridiculous discussion on “Delia” as Kenny MacIntyre is wont to call Ronny Deila.

Conversation with Tom English centred on Tom Boyd’s defence of the aforementioned RD’s position at Celtic. Btw that defence came in an interview Tom Boyd gave on said programme the previous evening. In his presence they said nothing except “congratulations on your appointment”. In his absence they mock him. Shame on them.

MacIntyre read out the full Oxford dictionary meaning of ambassador highlighting it could be a “paid messenger.” Honest!

Incredibly, English said all Boyd was doing was spreading PR lines and it was “daft” of the media to give him one or two page spreads to issue what was not analysis by Tom Boyd but PR. ” Pure and simple guff” he called Boyd’s comments.

I almost fell off the seat. What the hell have Sportsound and the collective print media been giving us for years about Rangers other than PR guff dressed as fact by their pundits?

I honestly wish this had been in TV so I could either see how red English’s face was or if he had a collar made if brass around his neck. As for MacIntyre…well that’s what he does.

An unbelievable piece of BBC Scotland drivel. Honestly, I advise you to have a listen. It was so surreal it almost put Clyde SSB to shame.

Time for all Celtic players, officials and ambassadors to abandon these people. Time also for Celtic PLC to choke their revenue by pulling all adverts from their papers and withdraw their in-stadium ads as well.

Corkcelt – Don’t get me wrong here – Anybody else who could get through an entire lifetime without working a single day, I’d say that is magnificent achievement, well done.

Not though if said person was writing books telling the so-called proletariat what’s best for them.

Poor oul Engels – what a mug, even left all his money to the fraudster’s family when he died.

South Of Tunis – He must have been a volunteer journalist then, because if it wasn’t for the mug Engels him and his entire family would have been living on the streets.

He wasn’t capable of work, because he was a lazy chancer first and foremost.

  11. Talking about work, many years ago, would have been early 90s, one friday evening in the bar playing darts, about 12 of us, I was the only one who actually worked, on the rigs at the time, the rest all sold insurance or sat in front of a computer all day.

No wonder the world is so fecked up :-)

Engels did not leave all his money to what was left of The Great Carbuncle’ s family .He bequeathed them @ 40 % of his estate and stipulated what they should do with the money.

Nail on head, not for the first time. The law of diminishing returns , the race to the bottom, call it what you want however we are deep in the spiral of whatever it is.

The constant navel gazing will continue unabated and indeed will only worsen when an impoverished club arrive next season and are seen as competition. We will be force fed a diet of OF bilge and bigotry, whilst we fight like two bald men over a comb the rest of football will not even be watching.

The zenith of that Barca victory has already been diminished my our own Nordic nadir earlier this season.

I do not offer a solution,I do fear we have been bypassed by actions of our own making. Looking at Ibrox as our biggest competitor and cash cow has paid us poorly. Our stadium needs upgrading too, we just pretend it doesn’t because the other place is a mess as well. However the days of a closed top tier for many games are not too far away. We need our board to grasp whatever they can and stay on the coat tails of the second rung of European football: our current status. The signing policy of the last two seasons has seen that standing eroded, it will not take much to see us drop into the levels below.

Still going tomorrow, but I have to say I too have other things I could be doing but I am not at the quit stage yet.

This Communist/Marxist nonsense now being espoused by a section of the Celtic support – a dead ideology, please tell me that it’s a recent phenomenon though?

In the 60’s there was JFK CSCs – the 70’s no idea.

From the late 80’s onwards I’d never heard tell of it – unless I’ve been living in a cocoon or something. Marxism was never discussed.

It was always the Celtic way, from 1888?

    No it wasn’t.

That ideology can only exist from within a totalitarian system anyway.

The students and the Wolfie Smith type characters, they are funny. The students grow up, leave university and become lawyers or doctors – Marx is soon confined to the dustbin.

Not grown adults though, so-called sensible people whom should know better.

    It just doesn’t make sense.

  23. Ah the interim accounts eh. Silly season. Funny how Celtic can’t be bothered putting them on their website.

Isn’t it fantastic? I mean. Wow. Turnover up and a great big fat profit.

I dunno about you but I am soooooooexcited.

Paul points out that bankier says it’s been frustrating on the pitch. Aye a bit frustrating pissing your advantage of 4 years up against a wall.

He fails to mention. That bankier says that our (Moneyball) strategy remains unchanged. So no learning there then. Brains disengaged. All is fine.

    Blah blah blah.

I still think it’s fab that net cash at bank is Celtics very own accountancy term. Used of course to disguise how much is actually in the bank.

What’s the point of Celtic? To make money?

    Mon the RBS.

Another disasterous year but hey as long as we are making money. Let’s just ,edge with the Huns and be done with it?
