Celtic interims stunning-ageddon

858

Champions League football this season has enabled Celtic to achieve a remarkable set of interim financial results for the period 1 June 2012 to 31 December 2012.  Turnover was up 71%, a stunning-ageddon figure.

Ticket sales and other stadium revenue was up marginally, to £18.598m (2011: £16.446m), as was merchandising, to £9.847m (2001: £7.821m), both reflecting the ancillary value of Champions League participation, but the big increase was in TV and media income, £21.613m, up from a paltry £5.004m in the same period of 2011.

The only amber flag on the results was the increase in operating costs, from £28.388m to £36.961m, a 30% increase, which will reflect higher bonus payments for Champions League participation, higher wage costs and a more general increase in running costs.

Pre-tax profit came in at £14.944m, leaving net bank debt at £130k.

These are fantastic results from a well-run club which will enable ever-more solid foundations to be laid.  We are also one of the few clubs to qualify for the latter stages of the Champions League AND to do so profitably. Congratulations to all.

I’m participating on an online STV preview at 18:30 tonight, looking forward to the small challenge ahead.  Hope you can join us.

The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

I’ll see you there.

    Hi everybody

    Long time lurker.

I am looking for a ticket for Tuesday for a friend, I know demand is high and it is a long shot figured it was worth a try. My friend is happy to pay face value but said he would be willing to stretch to £60. If anybody was able to help it would be greatly appreciated. Obviously, one of us would be willing to travel to pick ticket up in Scotland.

Thanks in advance for any help

  11. I expect Juventus to pull every dirty trick in the book to achieve the result they desperately desire.

I expect Celtic to play honourably, as always, and achieve the result they so richly deserve.

But I wouldnae mind if Big Vic and Broonie occasionally remind Pirlo he is no midfield maestro when closely monitored by the likes of them.

    HH!

  12. Oops! Tomorrow. Can`t have a spelling mistake in what was intended to be my last post until after the game. Might have brought bad luck. Everything will be fine now.

for providing the opposition that gives Celtic a league to win, that allows us access to the sort of money, that provides us with the quality of player all of Scottish football likes to watch.

If my gratitude does not quite extend to sharing some of the wealth you have enabled Celtic to earn then blame UEFA not Celtic for enriching the rich and impoverishing the poor.Twas ever thus, but really not the Celtic ethos.

My reading of the operating expenses are that they included three more games than the same period the comparable year before…would make some difference

  17. Paul67

These look good figures but the increase in operating costs (30%) is a huge hike. I appreciate bonus payments play a factor but the strategy had been to reduce the wage bill (rightly so!). How does this compare with our last Champions League participation?

  18. I’m sure i read somewhere, more than likely on cqn that for some reason it’s beneficial to be slightly in the red for tax or trading reasons.

    I’m probably talking nonsense though.

future ones to follow as well come on the

Hoops there are prosperous and happy

    times which lays ahead

  20. I would definately man mark Pirlo, with Broonie being my choice, make the game 10 aside I would fancy our chances.

  21. If s.o.t. is still about on-site I’d be interested on his take on Pirlo’s type of involvement tomorrow.

I know he said earlier that Pirlo’s ageing and tiring, but if he’s fit enough he will play and I, as many, have seen how he can command and control a game.

I agree with what !!bada bing!! says, but that can be a two edged sword in that attention is distracted from play elsewhere.

Man, am I glad I’m not a footie mgr. It’s like a feckin’ chess game with a bunch of macchiavellians like Juventus.

  24. Now – I will be the first to confess I havent read the results in any detail yet…..but…..

Isnt it a wee bit strange that we still have some “net bank debt”?

Now god forbid that I claim to be a seer of some sort – but I have predicted this for ages. Now again fair play to Celtic there are other reasons why you may want some “net bank debt” and for operating expenses to jump by a very considerable amount. And I havent checked yet to see if there are some “exceptional costs/expenses/write downs” etc (as there are most years.

The figures are, apart from the usual shenannigans, impressive and given our qualification should continue to be.

But please dont ask me to swallow all of them – message to celtic fans is – “a good year but dont dare ask us to spend any serious money or reduce ticket prices cos we are still in debt”

    yeah right……
