Celtic interims stunning-ageddon

858

Champions League football this season has enabled Celtic to achieve a remarkable set of interim financial results for the period 1 June 2012 to 31 December 2012.  Turnover was up 71%, a stunning-ageddon figure.

Ticket sales and other stadium revenue was up marginally, to £18.598m (2011: £16.446m), as was merchandising, to £9.847m (2001: £7.821m), both reflecting the ancillary value of Champions League participation, but the big increase was in TV and media income, £21.613m, up from a paltry £5.004m in the same period of 2011.

The only amber flag on the results was the increase in operating costs, from £28.388m to £36.961m, a 30% increase, which will reflect higher bonus payments for Champions League participation, higher wage costs and a more general increase in running costs.

Pre-tax profit came in at £14.944m, leaving net bank debt at £130k.

These are fantastic results from a well-run club which will enable ever-more solid foundations to be laid.  We are also one of the few clubs to qualify for the latter stages of the Champions League AND to do so profitably. Congratulations to all.

I’m participating on an online STV preview at 18:30 tonight, looking forward to the small challenge ahead.  Hope you can join us.

The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

I’ll see you there.

By far the majority of what Celtic earn ends up in player’s pockets.

Some are worth their weekly wage, some are not but there is no “try before you buy”, although to be fair Celtic have gone that way where possible.

Your beef with Celtic seems to be what those running the club earn as opposed to what the major consumers of income take away.

Given that players wages are the major drain, why not focus on those or should those running the club give up some of their pay to keep players?

  15. Battered Bunnet – of course I will – however its the same old same old so I doubt I will be surprised.

Auldheid – my beef is with Celtic pulling the wool over supporters eyes by somehow, against all the odds, having a small net bank debt. This is then used to ensure that Celtic continue to charge very high season ticket rates while actually investing very little in the playing squad.

I wonder how we will have a net bank debt when we sell hooper and wanyama in the summer.

  20. Afternoon all,

Great financial interim results for Celtic FC.

I would imagine operating costs have increased in part by the extra CL games we have had.

Opening up the stadium midweek, the extra policing costs etc would have an effect. The club would also have more expenses for the away legs in the CL.

Just a thought, though as my bank manager would confirm, I know damn all about finances.

    Hail Hail

  21. …and another thing…

Isn’t it financially prudent to have some debt? This helps with the clubs credit rating thus making it easier and cheaper to borrow when and if it is needed.

    Hail Hail

  22. Wife just told me she has washed and ironed scarf for tomorrow night and “got that mark out!” That mark was Scott Brown’s signature! Was thinking of suitable retribution but know that if I did it would come back to bite me. Responded through gritted teeth “You meant well”. Wimp!

  23. NegAnon2

I reckon Celtic will have regular access to an additional £15 to £20M for the next four years at least.

I do not want that making rich young men even richer. I would prefer the existing policy of recruiting and developing young talent continues and the wage bill stays around its present lebel (with a wage celing in England helping us compete better in wages terms with EPL clubs).

If some of that excess goes on ticket reduction fine but it might also go into other investments that improve the supporter experience whether they are matchgoers or TV watchers.

It is going to be an entirely new business experience not having to watch every penny but deciding how to spend them wisely.
