It must seem inconceivable to the younger generation, but those older saw Scotland compete at World Cups in 1974, 78, 82, 86, 90 and 98. When I turned 35, the only tournaments Scotland had not reached in my lifetime happened when I was 3 and 27. Wales had never been there (still on a 64 year dry patch) and England missed out in 74, 78 and 94.
Back then, it meant something to me; today, I’m all about the Celtic. That nationalism thing has gone, Celtic is my nation and the only flag that represents me. If Scotland lose, it will not move the dial of my mood one degree.
If anything could come close to changing this, it’s a former Scotland captain wanting Ukraine to win at Hampden tonight in the ludicrous belief that would send a message to the Kremlin. A child-like belief that football support can impact a man who is prepared to kill thousands.
Still, the World Cup is always a great sporting event, the younger generation has been robbed of the meaningful interest many of us had, it is churlish for me to “humbug” at what I once enjoyed. There’s also Callum McGregor to think about. He would grace the tournament as the heartbeat of the Scotland side and deserves the chance to perform on the top international stage.
So for the younger generation, Callum, David Turnbull, Greg Taylor and Anthony Ralston, best of luck tonight. Just don’t ask me to stand for a blue flag.

… and the booing continues. Simple goal.
Yarmalenko, playing at walking pace
Does Clarke have a plan B, if we had a plan A of course
Really can’t understand why Ralston is not playing ? He would have stopped that goal.
Really not understanding what the Gilmour hype is about. He is so ineffective. Honestly dire.
How does Gilmour get a game in front of Armstrong
Should never have agreed to a postponement of the fixture. Scots players have switched off, season over mentaility.
Hun hype, Clarke knows where his bread is bettered.

Did yo watch Ralston in Europe

If what I have read –that failure is more likely if you have a Plan B — then I would say `Yes`.
We have no midfield, no defence and no strike force. Utter ineptitude. And it’s not going to get better in future years. Our Under – 17 just got gubbed 3 times in 3 games in a recent Scandinavian competition. Because of a corrupt SFA, we are falling further and further behind the smaller countries.

Do you honestly think he is better than Hicky ?
Unlucky Callum
St Tams
Isn’t better than Hicky
Just watched a wee bit from that link provided above. Quick assessment. Scotland: All work and no play.
Ukraine: Quick and comfortable.
Hickey is a better footballer but Tony is a better defender. Neither are quite good enough
4 Ukrainians against 2. Looks like they can score any time they want to.
Nae Quatartan army noo!
Mctominay was more at fault for goal, than Hickey
Iniquitosiv
Why is it due to a corrupt SFA ?
Isn’t it just that we are a country of 5 million vs a bigger country with a huge cause to play for.
Ref now really getting behind the Ukraine effort though.
Clarke has moved McTominay out of the back 3 into midfield and has brought Hickey into the back 3. Not sure about that
We are playing heedie- tennis. Ridiculous at international level.
Weak shot from Christie.
Now looks like we are playing with only a back two
At this rate Scotland will be lucky to get 0
Scotland are poor
Ukraine passing round our huffing and puffing
HH
How shite is Adams
Surely Hendry would have been better than Hanley? I think I might still be faster than the Norwich center half.
SFTB
Now looks like we are playing with only a back two.

Is one of them Gordon?
Sitter now
McGinn heid like a thruppeny bit.
McGinn misses a sitter.
Poor cross from Robertson.
McGinn one of our better players annaw
St Tams
Don’t disagree Re McTominay to blame btw.
Just think Ralston would have prevented it.
Can’t fault Scotland for effort now they’ve woken up but a severe lack of talent
When you boil it down, the Ukrainians, man for man, are simply better football players.
McGinn’s biggest missed sitter since Celtic’s contract.
