Celtic will play Juventus in the last 16 round of the Champions League. Juve are seven points clear top of the Italian league having won the competition last season without losing a game. They eliminated reigning European champions, Chelsea, in the last round and finished above a good Shakthar team.
They are remarkably well organised and don’t lose many goals (10 in 17 league games, 7 less than anyone else), but this is a tie Celtic can plan for. Juventus will present the same kind of challenge Barcelona did in the group stage, but they are not as effective as the Catalans.
Celtic have faced them twice in the European Cup/Champions League previously, winning both home games and losing away on each occasions, controversially in 2001.
I’m up for this one. Fairy-tale story with the lovable Celts the only British representatives in the quarter finals? Loins girded.

From the Juve website: (you won’t see this in the Scottish MSM)
The Bianconeri’s upcoming Champions League rivals Celtic boast a rich and prestigious history.
The Bhoys, founded in 1888, have lifted 43 Scottish championships, 35 Scottish cups, 14 league cups and the European Cup.
Having beaten arch-rivals Rangers to last season’s SPL title, Neil Lennon’s men have taken their good form into the current campaign and currently lead the way in Scotland with 10 victories, four draws and three defeats.
Their Champions League adventure began with a 4-1 aggregate victory over Finnish side Hjk Helskini, before a 4-0 triumph over two legs against Helsingborg secured their safe passage through to the group stages.
Backed by a vociferous crowd in Glasgow, Celtic sealed second place in Group E with ten points, clinching memorable home triumphs over Spartak Moscow and Barcelona in the process.
The Bhoys’ European record at Celtic Park, where they have registered nine victories, two draws and a solitary defeat in their last 12 outings, means Antonio Conte’s men will have to stay alert to the red-hot atmosphere that awaits them in Glasgow. Away from home, Lennon’s charges have found the target in their last seven consecutive European encounters.

Juve Tickets on sale 22 Dec to 15 Jan. £37.00.
In the game in Turin in 2001, I remember a lot of noise coming from a square full of fans wearing red, white and blue scarves.
They were fans of Croatia Zagreb, and they had travelled across the Adriatic Sea to support us. We spent a couple of hours with them drinking and singing.
A hardy bunch of lads may I add! Not to be messed with!!

Disappointed with £37 for a ticket for Juve game. Not a person that normally criticises the money men but think they could have kept cost down for season ticket holders…….

Agree mate,£30 would have been ample.

sure that isn’t Lira – a proper currency
I have been out all morning having an early Christmas present- a plaster cast on my left foot so I am a wee bit behind on CQN news, although got the Juve news. My brother Gordon has been there a couple of times in the past and I seem to recall some pretty disturbing stories. No doubt he will post later in the day.
I guess no matter who we drew at this level was always going to be a real challenge however Neil and his bhoys will not shirk the task. Who honestly gave us any chance of picking up points against Barcelona when our section was announced. I am with some recent posters. If we get 0-0 or 1-0 we will be in with a real chance. We have proved that we can defend with our lives if we need to.
On a separate matter I note that the Financial Times- which claims to be a journal of record ie it gets it’s fact correct – has reported on ” the humiliation of Rangers being relegated to Scotland’s lowest tier, the third division of the football league”.
So here we go …… ” Mr Green who brought the club out of administration in June for £5.5m said a number of factors would soon be working in Rangers’ favour. Among them, talks to restructure the Scottish game should enable Rangers to climb back up to the top tier at least a year earlier than expected”.
Cenkos Securities said ” Rangers equity value could more than double in 3 years if the club can unlock a global fan base with sponsorship deals”
Mr Green estimated that the flotation raised £5.2 m from about 5000 fans in 3 days.
Looks like the FT believe in fairytales- suppose it’s that time of year.
If Charlie pulls off this sting and the old company get away with the tax case and the investigation around improperly registered players ( cheating ) then I think we are looking at the biggest sporting scandal in British history. I know some on here, so used to Rangers getting the nod, always believed that they would rise Lazarus- like , be back competing with us with paltry penalties to pay for their misdemeanours. The rest of us genuinely believed due process would get them. They would be caught by the big tax case, the wee tax case and or improper registration.
I know the jury is still out but I have grown increasingly disillusioned with the powerlessness forced upon us by forces outwith control. I live in London and talk a lot about this case, in some instances to journalists, and there is a genuine sense of outrage amongst decent people for what they appear to be getting away with.
People ask me ( and others ) why we are so preoccupied with that club and their past/ current activities. For me it is an easy answer.
They were ( are ) standard bearers for a philosophy which actively excluded part of the society I grew up in and that culture is alive and in robust health. It attracts dangerous extremists who are a danger to decent citizens. They also cheated my club out of millions of pounds through their financial engineering , ruined any competition in Scottish football, annexed a good slice of the main stream media ( probably as close to corruption as it is possible to state )and placed henchmen at the SFA to ensure that there would be no oversight to their activities.
Rangers…. Bullies and bigots then. Rangers……. Bullies and bigots now.
“Oh, we’ll be there, there, tell them we’ll be there…..
To cheer the Glasgow Celtic on…………”

PFAyr- reassuring to hear.
We’re fond of the ole spot of mayhem but I’d like to think we could keep it hillbilly-free.
Just back from some Christmas shopping, it’s manic out there and have seen the much anticipated draw. I must say I’m happy been paired with Juve. On the positive side our games against Italian sides have always been tight affairs going back some decades. The Italians let you play football and our current improving squad gives gives food for confidence after a tremendous run to the last sixteen.

Based it on games against the darkside.

When on Snyde (Tuesday) Mr Charles commented that his investment along with McCoist’s et al would be included in the fans’ reported contribution. In reality the Berrs probably only invested around £2m – £2.5m. Piss poor response.
Talking about Snyde. Did they report the story on Celtic replacing the stolen presents from Great Ormond St Hospital in their news bulletins on Tuesday ?

Very good post……..but, keep the faith …….this is all going to blow up on the bhuns, when greengo walks away with a few million and the rest of them are left sitting with worthless shares…….HH
I had the onerous chore of chaperoning a class of 16 year old Italian girls on a 3 day school trip to Lazio the night Dundee Utd played Roma. Needless to say the local lads were interested in becoming acquainted with my charges. My job was one of prevention.
I think in the whole of the previous season DU conceded barely double digits at home.
The mighty Roma were going to do DU 6-0 that night they assured me. Pah! – a town of 100,000 with TWO football teams?
My popularity did not improve when I crowed aloud as DU humbled them.
I fled to the safety of my girls in a kind of role reversal.
One of my colleagues on the trip was a P.E. teacher who struck terror into the hearts of all men. How I longed for the relative safety of her room that night. Alas, she was having none of it.
From wikipedia, 82-83.

Re the odds of the exact same draw, I’m sure there’s statisticians out there and they can correct my musings,
Celts to draw Juve 1 chance in 8 = 0.125
Same draw 2 days in a row = 0.0156
This event happened eight times, ie 8 teams paired with the same teams, therefore 0.0156 to the power 8 =
3.55 x 10 -15 which is a lot of zeros to the left of 3 :>)
00.000,000,000,000,003.55 (the commas are for clarity)
It’s just not possible tbh so I’d say that uefa decided to go with the dry run the day earlier and some clown thought we wouldn’t notice.
While Corrections to my limited knowledge of the laws of probability will be received positively :>) I’d like to say in my defence that the above figures are there to give an idea of the IMPROBABILITY of the same 8 fixtures being drawn exactly the same 2 days in a row.
Uefa fixed it for me CSC

Soldiers involved in Bloody Sunday are to be questioned by police as part of a murder investigation into those who died in Londonderry in 1972.
The families of those who were killed on Bloody Sunday met with senior officers on Thursday.
They were told the police investigation is under way.
Thirteen people died when soldiers opened fire during a civil rights march. A fourteenth person later died from his injuries.
In July, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it would launch an investigation into the deaths.
