CELTIC will be monitoring South American wonderrkid Joaquin Fernandez in next month’s Copa Libertadores Under-20s tournament.
The 18-year-old left-sided central defender will feature for Uruguayan outfit River Plate.
Fernandez’s UK-based representatives are hoping their top prospect can show the form that will earn him a move to Europe.
The teenager is a current Uruguayan Under-20 international and is also attracting interest from clubs in England, France and Belgium.
The Copa Libertadores competition is contested by the 10 youth champions of the South American Federations plus the defending champions and an additional team from the host nation.
It will be held in Uruguay, running from February 10 to 24, and Fernandez’s agents expect a lot of interest, including that from Brendan Rodgers’ side.
