Celtic League of Nations

937

It is worth more than a passing observation that in yesterday’s game Celtic had players from 11 different countries in the starting line-up:

England, Sweden, Honduras, Scotland, Nigeria, Netherlands, Finland, Israel, Ireland, Greece and Wales.

Recruitment came from clubs in 7 different league structures:

England (3) and Wales, Scotland, Norway, Honduras, Israel (2), Netherlands and Germany.

There were a further four different nationalities on the bench.

Of the starting line-up only Fraser Forster is not a full international, although that is surely only a matter of time, but Fraser is the only player we have from a large football nation, perhaps an indication that it is more difficult to recruit nationals from England, Germany, Italy, France and Spain than elsewhere.

The signing of Emilio Izaguirre from Honduras three years ago came two years after the player’s representatives had him on trial in England.  It’s likely Emilio’s CV was in every mailbox in the British game, so I doubt we have much of an infrastructure in Central America.

Celtic have obviously matured links in Israel recently, Beram Kayal and Efe Ambrose have delivered value, while Nir Biton fits the profile of the player Celtic should be looking for.  Embedding relationships in similar markets offers a higher likelihood of value – and therefore football development – than taking our chance on the mainstream British and European circuits.

Prize to anyone who can point to Guinea-Bissau (Amido Balde’s country of birth and location of a Sporting Lisbon-associate club) on the map. There is a lot of work to do to catch up with the Portuguese.

abusive attacks happen on here on a weekly basis, I remember one poster on here accusing me of wishing to have him killed by inter-continental ballistic cement mixers, the same poster accused me of being a drunk, the same poster asked another contributor on here to stick knitting needles in his eyes and from my reading of Dantes they did not do too much knitting.

But I never complained. I thought it funny, but to this days those posts stand. Did you miss those posts, not that I am too bothered, but if you are going to have standards, surely the standards should apply to all, without prejudice.

Posts are not pre-moderated before appearing. Paul67 has just stated that he acts on complaints. I assume nobody complained about the posts to which you refer. Therefore no action could be taken.

I dont have any problems for your reasons for banning Canamalar.

You cannot use your friends experiences as a motivation it has to be the same for all of if is to be considered fair censorship. I am not saying that this means Canamalar should be revoked. I also consider it poor from Canamalar to intimate that he was not given a reason as to why he was banned. Can I ask if your email to him clearly stated that this was the reason ?

Surely threatening someone with violence is far more of a concern ?

I dont want to bore the blog and yourself with previous spats and abusive incidents that are still very much online and therefore comparable so it does seem opportunistic.

Maybe you can issue us with a list of your sensitive friends so that we can tread more warily ? None of us wants banned from your blog.

I have seen some fall outs on here over the years and seen some harsh things said,

I have been saddened by some of it but in the case of personal exchanges I would never dream of contacting Paul over any of them as I feel if either of the posters felt that strongly about it they would.

  9. The Honest Mistake loves being first on

    Kitalba.

It’s an impossible task for one guy to police the blog and for everybody to feel fairly treated.

I’m sure you, me and umpteen others would be on our fifth suspension by now. The answer would appear to be self policing which is difficult but not impossible when a clique forms.

Sometimes it’s difficult to imagine that we are all on the same side.

  10. Paul, many thanks for your response.

I’m not on here constantly so was unaware of Canamalar’s alleged posts containing abuse, I shall have to take your word for that.

You’ll agree though i’m sure, that it seems a bit strange that the one individual who has actually succeeded where the SMSM and various supporters bodies have singularly failed, or worse, not bothered, to ask an actual valid, pointed and pertinent question for the SFA to answer…………has been silenced.

  11. There is a new book out rehashing old claims that Hitletr dien in 1962 in exile in Argentina.

These have been ridiculed by historian Guy Walters, who pronounced them “2,000% rubbish” when the book came out.

As you will notice, Guy is an historian and not a mathematician. As everyone knows, the maximum can only ever be 100% unless it’s the efforts that players promise to give in which case it is 110% as in….

“I’m just going to go out there and give it 110%. That’s all I can do”

You should take a long lie on the couch laddie.

Talking sense and logic on CQN about personal spats is not a common trait.

Darken the room. Play some soothing music and come back fighting. ;-)

Every word true, and I felt meaningless whilst others were saying in whispers “he’s the nutter that sent the whisky”

Well years later Paddy’s son, Patrick, is my youngest son’s best mate and they’ll both go onto high school together, which is good.

One thing everybody should do, if they get the chance to, is to look into the eyes of an organ donor. See what looks back.

Sorry it sounded like you were looking for constant monitoring.

Personally I don’t Paul67 should be responding to 3rd party complaints in this manner, I don’t need people to be offended on my behalf, I’m a grown man after all.

However it’s his blog, so he can dictate the rules and if Canamalar breached them there’s not much more to say on the matter.

  15. paolosboots Good Luck Wee Oscar on

Bawsman looks to me he got himself banned. It takes alot to get barred from here a pity that some are not so respectful of others!

  16. paolo’s boots

As far as i know, I have not injured anyone at the Saturday 5s recently. I am just back playing for the first time in 3 weeks after i felt something pop in the back of my left thigh. I survived Saturday’s game without mishap but I am still on the reserve list for Thursday’s so no chance of me injuring anyone unless their numbers drop and they are desperate enough to ask me back.

Hope your wrist injury is ok now

  17. I am keeping my mouth shut on this one not as I have had a previous suspension….. more to do with no caring and picking up a dose of hospital thrush on my priceless palate.

  18. weeminger:

If canamalar breached blog rules that merited a sending off… so be it. But what about a level playing field for every poster on the blog. Who is it from the SFA that reports Celtic players for breaches of fluid rules but doesn’t report others? And the blog erupts. One rule for one body, which causes uproar, whilst the same rule not applied to another body that takes the piss out of the first body for not being consistent with the rules????

  19. Lunchtime the day after a match is often a good time for a post-game analysis.

One might have thought that CQN might have such a discussion ongoing.

Instead we have the usual CQN politics.

    Yawn…..zzzz…..

  20. Surely someone accused of being abusive should be given the opportunity to apologize to the target on the blog?

  21. So Canamalar has been banned.

He has just spent the last 6 weeks preparing a resolution for the AGM that if accepted would force the board into asking questions as to how Rangers got their licence in their last season , questions the board are desperate not to be asked.

Canamalar was like a dog with a bone , he never gave up. He asked the questions that many Celtic fans want answers to but neither have the expertise or the tenacity to pusue the suits that know the answers to those questions. The celtic board were not pleased!

Then Canamalar is banned supposedly for upsetting other CQN users and not the board!. What a coincidence.

Hope you come back soon Canamalar . You represent a significant section of Celtic supporters.

Suppose it all depends on what mood PL is in as to when you get back.

Reading Paul’s explanation thats exactly what he was offered, instead of responding to an email he decided to inform the blog via other posters he’d been banned with no contact or explanation.

    “so?”

You are blaming a clique, which to my mind is an imaginary concept anyway (where do they meet? what do they discuss? How come you nor I are part of it?) when you and I have been told clearly that one person complained.

Is that one person the clique? Should he/she be outed? Should we take the final decision out of Paul’s hands and form a committee of the great and the good to arbitrate on what abuse is or isn’t allowed?

I have also been angered at what has been allowed on here but it is Paul’s blog and his rules.
