CELTIC have been linked with a summer move for Steaua Bucharest midfielder Ovidiu Popescu.
According to officials at the Romanian club, the Hoops sent scouts to watch the highly-rated 23-year-old in action in the 2-1 win over Dinamo Bucharest at the weekend.
Popescu joined Steaua only last June in a £200,000 deal from Poli Timisoara, but his value has soared as he has developed into one of the country’s most exciting talents.
Steaua owner George Becali has claimed he believes the player will one day be a £25million performer.
He is now waiting for the six-in-a-row champions to follow up their interest and has also admitted his club have received another bid for the Romania under-21 international from an unnamed team.
Popescu’s style of play has been likened to that of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
He has claimed three goals this season and featured in Steaua’s Champions League qualifying defeat to Manchester City in August when the Romanians lost 6-0 on aggregate.
