Celtic long term land dividends

1140

As we reported yesterday, Celtic have been busy buying up land around the periphery of the stadium for many years. The club managed to get the deal to buy land behind the Jock Stein Stand done before the mineral seam running below it was discovered. I hear the excavation rights are estimated to be worth £50m to Celtic, who bought the land for £3m in January 2009 with money which had been earmarked to buy Stephen Fletcher. Hibernian thought the Fletcher deal was done but Celtic pulled out at the last minute when the land deal became available due to an emergency cash requirement at the Council, who needed to build schools to educate children arriving in the city from Eastern Europe.

Back then, when I asked why we weren’t signing Fletcher a senior source at the club told me, “We can only spend that £3m once and we need the land for burger vans and stuff.” Before kick-off, fans currently go off-premises to spend their money, cash that could be going to Celtic. Source added, “We’ll be able to buy a Fletcher every year with the catering income we’ll make from this land deal.”

Made sense at the time, makes more sense now.

That £50m is due to arrive in time to get the Co-op off our case and leave a substantial amount available to deal with what could be the first season we ever face Sevco- keeping them in their place.

Good luck to the Celtic fans based in North America ahead of the Féile on the weekend of 17-19 January. Events are based at The Plough & Stars, Philidelphia, include live music, a tour of the An Gorta Mor Memorial, a live Beyond the Waves broadcast and a Q&A with Celtic Youth Coach, Willie McNabb.

  1. Tom there is no contradiction. A major reason why supporters are not going is the contempt the club show us. Going off and playing in a crAp tourney is just one more sign of that contempt. I could list loads more but you know me all….

Watched tonight’s game earlier on the telly. A very pleasing performance. I thought every player played well. I was particularly pleased for Pukki who is difficult to shake off the ball and looks to play in his team mates. Amido too had a very good game. He needs to play more and I would say to play beside Pukki more often. His goal was a cracker and he caused the opposition a lot of problems with his strength. James Forrest was brilliant. He skinned their left back time and time again and put some great deliveries into the box. I also thought Nir Biton played very well and he needs to be given a regular berth in the team. All in all, tonight’s starting line up plus Commons, Mulgrew and Lustig should form our team for the second half of the season in preparation for the CL qualifiers.

I was also very pleased to see that NL took this game seriously and put out a strong team as opposed to his approach during the pre-season when we were an omni shambles to borrow one of Paul’s terms.

I personally don’t rate Steven Fletcher I think he is not as sharp as he was a

few Seasons ago & I don’t think he is worth six million pounds + Nah I think

the Hoops should pursue the Norwegian player they were on about on STV

News tonight he looks a good proposition as for all this hoo-ha about the

surrounding land around CP firstly the coach park behind the Jock Stein

Stand was fenced off and gravelled out by the Glasgow Council @ a cost

of £300,000 and that’s a fact because I know a fellow who works for the

Glasgow Council Land Register & EPA

If The Co-Op Shops & Insurance Company have objections about the

Land behind the Jock Stein Stand or thereabouts then they should really

take a reality check for example what about match days parking @ CP

@ Present said match day parking matter is problematic as it is with

all Supporters Coaches being moved to behind the Emirates Vela-Dome

because of the updating Building projects going on @ the front of CP

Car parking around CP is becoming problematic and the Co-op want

to use the surrounding Land near CP to build either a shop or an

Insurance Call Centre gives us a break Co-op and take a reality check.

I normally like your posts as I see them as a counterbalance to some of Paul’s more positive posting when I don’t share his posivity. However, I think you’re in danger of becoming the Leonard Cohen of CQN – posts to slit your wrists to. It’s January and people are skint after Christmas and some won’t have the money to go to a game. They probably enjoy seeing Celtic playing a European team on the telly and knowing that the club are earning a bit of money from the tournament.

  5. Enjoyed the game tonight and the few beers in the pub, thought Balde, Pukki and Lucas did well….

See @RangersInter last tweet to see just how corrupt the SPFL board is. Rules rewritten entirely to benefit & safeguard one new club.

  7. Goats don’t Shave, Las Vegas in Donegal tune, could have been written for the wealth of Gold that Celtic are about to extract from our ‘dodgy’ land purchases, in Glasgow’s East End. Gold rush time!

I will not have that, Leonard Cohen is an inspiration to many, and I include myself in that, granted his voice and lyrics are enough to slit your wrists to, but FFS, he got me through many a time when that is what was required, and I am still here to recount the tale.

  9. neganon2 –

Now I know you are bagging Celtic FC just for the sake of it.

Anything they do that is slightly out of the ordinary equates to them slapping the fans in the face.

  10. Puki’s Goal tonight was a well taken and a good goal overall

hopefully he can do this more often and on a regular basis

Amilo Balde’s goal was very good as well he worked the

space for a shot and put it onto the postage stamp spot

of the goal frame. Amilo should be given more of a run out

in the first team which over time I’m sure he eventually will

be given a run in the first team.

Also, with this being the ‘January Transfer Window’ I’m of

the opinion that the Hoops should hold back towards the

end of this window and look @ bringing one or two players

in on loan with the first option to buy to make sure that

they can get into our first team and they can bed in and

also be a good acquisition to our first team in other words

we are looking for quality not quantity a bit like what I keep

banging on about to those snack bars within our Stadium

which keeps serving up over priced junk food and driving

people like myself away to buy off of the best fish and chips

and burger Van leading up to the Stadium instead of spending

money @ the snack bars within our Stadium I’ve also mentioned

this matter to PL in the past but it must have slipped his mind

    for attention sad but true.

  11. neganon2 –

I get the distinct impression you were sharpening your claws tonight in preparation for another defeat in “a crap tournament” and your nose has been put out of joint by the result.

So good Celtic men come onto CQN and display their pleasure at the result and praise a couple of players for finding the net, yet all you can do as laugh at them and ridicule them for getting “over excited”.

God forbid any good Celtic man should celebrate a victory. Any victory.

  12. Tom

Aye its Celtic, Celtic, thats the team for me.

Celtic, Celtic, just won in old Turkee.

We are the finest team in Scotland,

    I hope you will agree.

We never give up till we’ve won the cup,

    and the Scottish fitba league.

  13. NegAnon 2

Is talking a load of pish

The whole idea of going to Turkey was to have a break from the Norm

after playing so-far 35 competitive matches during the course of this

Season so far. Also Kilmarnock FC agreed for the Hoops home

match against them to be moved to the 29th of January 2014

Now we know that this matter is annoying to some of our Season

Card holders who travel from afar but overall this is giving out Club

a well earned rest and a change from the normal winter weather

we get in Scotland & If they can also earn some spare shekels in

the process of having a break away from the norm then fareplay

to our Club because its just two Friendly’s nothing more and

nothing less in a warmer climate fareplay to our Club & It’s not

all doom and gloom now is it? I think not. :-) :-) :-)

Stinks to high heaven that does, make up rules and regulations with linguistic gymnastics to resuscitate a football club that went insolvent & died, the games a bogey appalling how they are going to get away with it

I am not sure if I believe what I am saying and I am not basing my view on tonight’s performance but is another striker what we need? I kind of agreed with the new striker stuff but I think I imagine another Henrik appearing which sadly is unlikely. Creative midfielder or James Forrest in a new formation?

Nice to see Pukki and the big chap both score from outside the box. I always think we try to play to much tippy tappy stuff inside the box when whats required is a powered shot that gets you jumping about like a maddy. More of the same please for me at paradise.
