Celtic looking for 10 in a row

204

The biggest shock of Jock Stein’s era was Celtic’s 4-1 defeat to Partick Thistle in the 1971 League Cup Final.  Thistle were 4-0 up after 36 minutes while Kenny Dalglish managed Celtic’s only reply, 20 minutes from time.

Since then we have been drawn against Thistle seven times in this competition, wining each of the nine games (two early 80s ties were two legged).  A 2002-quarter final at Celtic Park went to penalties after a 1-1 draw, with Mo Sylla hitting the 18th and winning kick.

To great delight around Firhill, Gary Caldwell was relieved of his duties this week; with Ian McCall leaving Ayr United to return to the club he last managed eight years go.  The ‘new manager bounce’ is real, but even McCall will be glad to get tomorrow’s quarter final at Celtic Park over with.  Bottom of the table after six games, Saturday’s trip to Inverness is vastly more important.

A tenth successive win over Thistle in this tournament would send the holders to a Hampden semi-final in search of their 10th domestic successive trophy.

  1. BIG GEORGES FAN CLUB – HAIL, HAIL, WEE OSCAR on 24TH SEPTEMBER 2019 10:57 PM

    …………..

Superb Posts from yesterday regarding Bonkers Boris and Bonkers Brexiteers !

Its also despicable that some ( including on here), who which to spout their Right Wing Crap about Boris Johnson and how he is only trying to clean up any mess that May left him with etc, ESPECIALLY those who will NOT be affected by Brexit, especially a Car Crash NO Deal Brexit….and that description includes The Elite that live but suck the life out of working class people in this Country, as ANY Rich Tory will NOT be affected by ANY Food or Medicine shortages etc, and those who fecked off from the UK, but who STILL think that they have a God given Right to spout their Tory/Brexit loving opinions on the rest of us who happen to Reside and Work here…Those Chumps really make me want to Puke !

Jeremy Corbin was at his finest yesterday with his speech to the Labour Conference and the Nation, and although he promised a lot, and I am aware that “words and promises” can come easy to some, I would sooner trust Jeremy than that Elitist Clown Chump Boris who is nothing more than a Puppet for Trump the Terrible.

The Supreme Court Judges ( ELEVEN of them), just stopped short of calling Johnson a LIAR…FACT !

Johnson says that he has respect for the Court etc…MORE LIES !

Johnson wouldnt look out of Place being in the Dock along with Trump, Dave King etc…..as Serial Liars.

While in the USA yesterday and sitting on Trumps Lap, Johnson was asked a very simple question by the Media…” Will You RESIGN Mr Johnson” ?

As usual, he FAILED to answer the question ( Yes or NO would have sufficed ? ) and went off on a RANT about putting Money into the NHS, more Police….Blah feckin Blah…and how those in Parliament need to get on with business….more Blah feckin Blah…..HE and his Tory Cronies were the ones who had Parliament Suspended etc…to try and ensure that NO BUSINESS could be done for FIVE feckin WEEKS….NO Debates, No Bills being passed etc..then HE has the feckin Brass Neck to claim that HE wants ” Business as Usual” in Parliament ?

I would NEVER get tried of Punching that Chump in the coupon…likewise his Puppeteer Trump !

Also, Queen Lizzie KNEW what Johnson was going to ask her about suspending Parliament beforehand….Did She FAIL to have ANY Legal advice provided to her by any of her aides before Johnson came calling…if not…why not ?

All of my life I have l heard so many tell me and the Nation that Queen Lizzie is a Bright and Intelligent Woman…..yet she allowed herself to be feckin DUPED by a Chump…LYING Clown….why was that allowed to happen ?

  2. From MACJAY yesterday…

The ” no deal ” scenario is the direct result , not of the activities of Boris , but of the unwavering stance adopted by the E.C. and of the painful , long drawn out incompetence of Teresa May. Boris has been tasked with attempting to do the best he can in the interests of the British people against EC intransigence.

    ………………………………..

    Feckin Hell…

More UTTER Feckin Bollocks from a Poster who will NOT be affected by whatever Johnson does or doesnt do…

May and her government set the red lines for the negotiations with the eu backed up by the DUP who received 1billion pounds extra to vote with the Tories in parliament but the border issue snookered them, they thought Dublin would agree to their plan and tried to pressure the eu into ditching a member state , didn’t work so we have this situation, negotiations should have been cross party but they knew better.Dont reply to this it’s my last comment on this on a football blog.

  7. Good morning, friends and Happy Matchday frm a rather wet and grey EK.

Tonight is game #6 in the ole CQN Player Of The Year survey so remember to vote for your top 3 performers by sending a wee email to me at cqnpoty@gmail.com . Voting opens at the final whistle and you have until 10pm on Thursday night.

“The ” no deal ” scenario is the direct result , not of the activities of Boris , ”

Well, he was one of a number of Tories who voted down several forms of deals that were on offer. If all they wanted was to “leave”, that could have been achieved over a year ago. They opposed the “will of the 52%” by not accepting a form of “leave” that they did not like. They were part of the opposition in those votes.

As you well know- there is no such thing as a “No Deal” Brexit; there is only leaving without a deal. It is a “cart before horse” strategy- You leave and then you have to make deals. And you do so from a position of extreme weaknesss. Trump is waiting for Boris with his rubber gloves and a jar of vaseline.

It’s a very nice song to sing to yourself- the elite has thwarted my will!

Nigel Farage is the Etonian Wat Tyler! (I’m hoping for a similar outcome), though he’s more Bonnie than Wat (Total Eclipse of his Brain).

But the truth is that Boris and Nigel and Jacob have thwarted the Leave Outcome too.

The last Parliament has adequately reflected the will of the people- the people have an addled will and the Parliament was addled.

Boris is culpable in that as the very epitome of an addled human.

There will be a new keeper, I am sure- possibly Gordon not Bain.

I think we should risk a Youth CB, so long as they are paired with an experienced talker at the back.

    I would recommend:-

    Gordon

Bauer (or Frimpong) O’Connor Julien Hayes

    Morgan Rogic ELyanoussi

    Don`t think so.

Don’t agree with a lot of rotation in league games, our bread and butter and in a vital season – but games like tonight a great chance to mix youth and give them experience playing with established players.

I live in an area that is noted for a decent house martin population and is monitored by Scottish RSPB.

The birds spend the winter in Africa, south of the Sahara Desert.

My point is they are still here!

My memory says they are normally away by this time.

Anyone else still seeing house martin’s in their neighbourhood?

They are lovely birds but I’m gettin’ a bit anxious for them!!

“My understanding was that the House of Commons voted on three occasions to reject the one the only deal which the EC offered .”

Deals were rejected with Boris and pals in opposition to them.

    The deals were different.

The deals were negotiated by an ill prepared UK team and a well prepared EU team.

There were also the indicative votes which revealed the true extent of our UK confusion as to what we wanted.

    ————————————

“Do you seriously think that the UK should have capitulated to a dictat from the EC ?”

There was no diktat. There was just one country trying to dictate to 27 other countries the favourable deal they wanted by speaking slowly with a raised voice to Johnny Foreigner. It was a car crash that reflected very badly on the maturity of this country.

    Clarifications of interpretations

It is frequently stated that the 1967 referendum gave Aboriginal people Australian citizenship and that it gave them the right to vote in federal elections, however this is not the case.[12][22][23] From 1944 until 1967 Aboriginal people in Western Australia had to apply to become citizens, and this citizenship was conditional on denouncing their heritage and could be taken away at any time. This situation continued until 1971.[22][23] Most Indigenous Australians continued to be denied the right to vote in elections for the Australian Parliament even after 1949.[12] The Commonwealth Electoral Act 1949 gave Aboriginal people the right to vote in federal elections only if they were able to vote in their state elections (they were disqualified from voting altogether in Queensland, while in Western Australia and the Northern Territory the right was conditional), or if they had served in the defence force.[24] The Commonwealth Electoral Act 1962 gave all Aboriginal people the option of enrolling to vote in federal elections.[25] It was not until the Commonwealth Electoral Amendment Act 1983 that voting became compulsory for Aboriginal people, as it was for other Australians.[26][27]

It is also sometimes mistakenly stated that the 1967 referendum overturned a “Flora and Fauna Act”. This is believed to have come from the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974, which controlled Aboriginal heritage, land, and culture. The other states had either a native or aboriginals Act, many of which were managed as part of various departments, including agriculture and fishing.[23]
