Celtic Make Key October Capture – He Already Knows Us Well

0

IT HAS once again been quite a quiet October international break for those in the Celtic faithful, and I am sure the vast majority of regulars at Parkhead just want the domestic fixture calendar to resume so that we can keep our 100% Scottish Premiership record going in 2024/25 and build up some good daylight between ourselves and second placed (and unexpectedly impressive) Aberdeen.

With the usual international break type of reports doing the rounds in the media, Celtic have however made an excellent addition to manager Brendan Rodgers’ backroom team, and the hugely experienced Paul Tisdale has joined on as our new head of football operations on a permanent basis.

Hoops fans will know that Tisdale helped out during the summer transfer window, and whilst they will naturally have a few gripes and criticisms when it comes to the business completed ahead of deadline day, clearly all parties have seen the benefit in extending the arrangement and we will simply be hoping for more successes than failures when the New Year cycles around and the January transfer window opens up.

And speaking of successes, If you consider yourself as quite the punter and are keeping an eye on the high odds at the bookies, and you’d like to try your luck, there are plenty of operators offering the best UK no deposit bonuses, which you can explore at NoDepositBonus.guide, if you’re interested.

The 51 year old former professional midfielder has had a mixed career since breaking through at Southampton in 1992, even taking in spells with Finnish club FinnPa and Greek side Panionios. However, his playing career was interrupted by a career ender when he was only 26 years old and in 2000 after he left Yeovil Town, he moved into the world of coaching with Team Bath (University of Bath). In 2001 he took on the managerial role, turning them into the first university side since Gonville & Caius (1881) to enter the FA Cup. He also led them to four promotions in the non-league pyramid.

Most fans probably know his name from his incredibly lengthy spell at Exeter City (2006 to 2018). He joined them in the Conference National and back to back Play Off finishes saw them promoted to the Football League in 2008. The following year he led them into League One with a second spot finish, becoming the first man in their history to register back to back promotions.

He certainly had his relegation battles, but he also equalled their highest ever league finish. His time at Exeter was marked with a very successful youth policy, sensible sales in the transfer market and it should not be forgotten that from September 2003 onwards, the majority ownership of the club has been via the fans and the Exeter City Trust.

Following his time at Exeter, he had short spells with MK Dons, Bristol Rovers and then Stevenage but in 2022 he hung up his managerial hat and instead offered his skills as a consultant – the role that saw him arrive at Celtic Park over the summer.

Given his previous experience, he should be able to hit the ground running and play his part in whatever business Rodgers wants us to complete when the New Year rolls around and the January transfer window reopens again. Given the footballs operations side of life, he may also be able to bring with him some useful hints and tricks about our Academy set up as well.
