CELTIC have been linked again with former fans’ favourite Shaun Maloney.
The 31-year-old midfielder, who has already had two spells at the Hoops, knocked back a £1million move to Leicester City 48 hours ago.
Maloney’s current deal at Wigan expires at the end of the season and he is certain to move on.
Ronny Deila, who already has Dundee United winger Gary Mackay-Steven on a pre-contract, could attempt to land the Scotland international in a similar deal.
The Hoops sold the player to the Championship side for £1million in August 2011 and aren’t keen to splash an identical fee to bring him back.
Wigan boss Malky Mackay revealed Maloney could extend his career in the States.
He said: “There is still interest from Chicago Fire.
“But Shaun’s our player unless a new offer comes in.”
At the end of today’s match at Hamilton Kris Commons, who has been linked to a move to Bolton, threw his boots into the crowd at the final whistle in a match Celtic won 2-0. This has been seen as an indication that Commons has played his last game for the club.
However in post match interviews Celtic manager laughed off this suggestion and pointed out that Kris Commons has more pairs of boots.
Charlie Mulgrew, when asked to comment about the potential signing of Sean Maloney pointed out that he’d be a great addition to the squad as he is a very good player.
