Celtic missing the sugar in our tea

427

On the back of Saturday’s result and performance, I didn’t see that draw coming last night. The compensation is that after some better performances and results, evidence remains that we are far from the finished article.

After failing to score I often look for Kris Commons, who has been the sugar in our tea for much of the last five years. For a period, he crafted openings than the rest of the team put together. Injury and illness restricted Kris to five league starts since Christmas, only (also injured) Tom Rogic comes close to being as effective through the middle.

There are simply not enough of the squad likely to pitch up with a goal.

Once Erik Sviatchenko went off injured, the lack of scoring threat was not the only concern. Let’s hope he’s back for Motherwell on Saturday – and partnering Charlie Mulgrew. Motherwell are on their best form in years, five wins-in-a-row. We’ll need to win all the personal battles at Fir Park.

  1. Money being badly spent has hampered Ronny Deila in both his won, and winning league sorties, forgetting about first year disasters Tonev,Wakaso, Berget, Scepovic etc.

This year he’s tried them all given them umpteen chances and each and every forward player he has signed has let him down. The signing of out of contract Carlton Cole was even met with derision by most Celtic fans, and last summer Nadir Ciftci wasn’t exactly welcomed, to the extent he’s now the latest to be secreted away.

Neither January signings GMS or Stuart Armtrong have proved they can make the step up, although Bosman GMS, has gotten marginally closer. CKR’s signing was puzzling and it’s proving more so, the more game time he gets.

Deila turned to stalwarts like Forrest, who even had the temerity to want to look elsewhere, to deliver his two goals and two assists a season, and MacGregor flits in and out, but never really convinces, anyone but Ronny.

Next up will see the Kris Commons back for another go, and Leigh Griffiths backed through his striking famine.

Why are we signing Patrick Roberts on loan – how many CQN posts did you read saying that?

I have seen us lose to lower league sides too often not to recognise that as a possibility. Morton, Raith Rovers etc

A club would always be ‘back’ for their hordes to follow. No doubt we will lose to them at some point in the future if their finances allow them to survive. But even then their club is immune from financial ruin and will simply re-emerge.

In this light the result at Hampden isn’t relevant. We either defeat or are defeated by a new club being allowed to insult our intelligence by the corrupt pretence.

Personally I think the winning margin will be higher than the first meeting.

BUT we should be itching to get at that mob , just to put them in their place.

Right now , I will be delighted to scrape a result against them because Ronny just hasn`t got a clue.

    Does anyone still doubt that?

  3. Any spend I make on Celtic I consider a contribution to a cultural association. I don’t have any expectations other than it remains. We may win, lose or draw. I prefer to win of course, but I’m comfortable in the knowledge that my culture endures. I therefore don’t really think of myself as a “customer” in the traditional commercial sense. The current PLC structure is what it is. It may well change. I’ll still be there.

Ye see, sending ‘statements’ to anti-Celtic newspapers smacks of, naivety….imho.

Now, we’re being told by the same folk that -“….the inevitable.” – will be soon.

But,….I worry about the outcome of Res : 12 from the analogy that, if you live in a glass house – ye shouldny throw stones.

The Celtic PLC-Collusion dictates that, Celtic supporters live in a glass house.

I’ve said for years on here that, the ‘only’ way that Rangers FC would be killed would be, with the stake being hammered through the cheating-evil-monsters heart, by a Celtic hierarchy full of rebellious non-kowtowing, Celtic supporters.

That’s not the way that the club is structured – at present – so, the deid(LOL) huns are back as, the victims.

The only losers in all of this game of charades is – innocent, well meaning Celtic supporters who’s only crime is, they’re love for they’re club.

The evil entity that controls Celtic FC, don’t see the love, they’ve never felt it. They don’t know how much it hurts to know that, Celtic supporters weren’t paranoid for 125 years – they ‘were’ cheated!

And, in a role reversal…it’s the innocent, well meaning Celtic supporters who, after being cheated for all these years…will get the stake hammered through they’re hearts.

    It’s FLUKIN scunnering.

  6. Afternoon Timland from a warm hun free mountain valley.

For all I have been on the Ronny bus, that’s twice in the past month that he has been out thought and out tacticed by Paul Hartley, that is not good enough by a long way.

Our problem at the moment is ‘ordinaryness’.

By that I mean lack of flair, confidence, conviction, adaptability, leadership, swagger, passion, intelligence.

All characteristics of good Celtic teams of the past.

That seems to be the case on the park and in the dugout.

  8. I hope Charlie Muldini dizny recapture his ‘form’ fae a previous visit to Motherwell when, his 2 own goals were as damaging as the later, defeat up in Inverness, just after Sammi blew the title at ibrokes only days earlier with his penalty miss!

I hope Big McGhee dizny recall how, Sone Aluko ripped CM to shreds it ibrokes on Jelly & ice cream Sundae.

  9. Does anyone know where Scott Allan & Ryan Christie are as (IMO) these two would add a hell of a lot more to the team than CKR and Forrest

Also (again my opinion) why is Scott Brown automatically picked when its obvious he is either still carrying an injury and is now playing like half the player he was when it would be more sensible to play Bitton and Armstrong in the middle (Armstrong’s natural position of CM)

  14. We are a poor side, with no plan, little fight and apart from Paddy Roberts, no guile.

That was my initial reaction after the game and tweeted as such. I have heard little to dissuade me from this opinion. I have been on the Ronny bus from day 1, but I seriously doubt he will do anything other than falling over the line to maybe win the league, and that the huns will beat our 10 men at Hampden.

By the way, does Leigh Griffiths annoy anyone else with his play/demeanour. I know, I know he has scored goals, but he at times looks like a leaner Kris Commons. Although I’m also probably leaner than Kris.

Last night’s result will have given hope to Aberdeen. What would have been a hard game for them will now be a bit easier. I expect them to win that one now.

    We MUST beat Motherwell.

    I think we will.

  16. coolmore mafia on

P67 realises that we have a threadbare squad in defence and attack, and a multitude of non game changing midfielders.

The lack of planning is astonishing. Where is Scepovic? Ciftci? Where the hell is our attack? I see Guidetti with 7 from 27 in La Liga. Scepovic 4 in 19 for struggling Getafe. In the world’s best league.

    Meanwhile we have:

    carlton Cole – 0 from 4

CKR – 1 from 9 (against East Kilbride)

    Forrest – 2 from 28

    Commons- 9 from 27

as back up to Griffiths. Kris is a fine player, but is on the wane and doesn’t last 90 minutes.

The football and recruitment department have royally messed up this season. I rest my case m’lud.

    Play the creative players.

Our midfield 5 should never have 4 water carriers, Bitton, Armstrong, Brown and Johansen. They are simply not creative enough.

3 of Roberts, Rogic, Commons, McGregor, Allan and GMS must play in the midfield. Otherwise the ball will continue to be passed sideways with little urgency or deftness.

Whoever scouted Cole, CKR, Ciftci etc should be sacked. A complete waste of money (although to be fair to Ciftci he was unlucky to start with a 6 game ban and having a good goal ruled out in one of his first league games).

  20. Statistically wee Callum is our best chance of a goal (scored or assisted) after Leigh per minutes played.

  21. KevJungle

    I hope you are well

By inevitable I meant that even after liquidation there would be another club emerging for their hordes to follow.

What they should have done is create a new club having taken a year or so out and raised funds from their own support and Rangers minded business people.

They could have apologised for the sins of the former club and then worked their way through the divisions with an uncontested viewpoint that although a successor club had been formed spiritually they were the same in the hearts and minds of their tribe.

Instead of the share issue from Green etc the money could have gone into creating a club in a much better state than the one we will face a week on Sunday.

And Karma wouldn’t be a worry – the bitch!

  22. dr ramesh and the love potion on

McGregor might run funnily but he often does more to keep the ball moving forwards quickly than any other player at the club. And he has an eye for goal. Play him.

  23. Commons – not for me. Too slow and a terrible touch. The best 30 mins this years was when we had Roberts Christie and Allan as the “3 in behind ” – never to be seen again. Janko is a must at RB too- Lustig is finished.

Assuming all that happened, including creditors paid, there would still be a “Rangers” then.

In what way have you “killed” them?

  25. See the computer things the players wear during the game, apparently they wear them at training as well, and if targets are not met, players are dropped from the squad team etc, there is no interaction between the coaches and the players, it’s all stats and work, fine if you are working with machines, but imo there has to be some leeway, alienate the players at your peril.

  26. Paul67 summed up exactly what I was saying last night

Too many creative players in the squad who cannot be relied on. If Ronny didn’t give McGregor or Commons a chance when we needed a goal that shows the lack of faith he has in them.

    We are a striker short.

We would probably be better off with Stokes and Commons in the team rather than GMS & CKR

  27. agree , “Roberts Christie and Allan as the 3 in behind ” must start , the usual tried and tested sideways and backwards movement not working.

  28. Bob O' Baldy on

CKR is only as ineffective as his career (lack of) goal-scoring record suggested he would be.

You can’t turn a 1 in 8 game striker into a 1 in 2 or 3 no matter which league he plays in. The simple truth is he doesn’t get into the box enough to score more than the odd goal in 10 games.

This was true to me before he signed, it shocks and shames me that the people at our club who are paid to know these things are more incapable of spotting this despite having access to far more data than me.

Also, why the hell can’t John Collins keep his gob shut. Patrick Roberts has one of the best games in a Celtic Jersey since the days of Henrik and he immediately has to put huge pressure on him.

The awful thing about it, is John Collins was in the team when those Baggio comparisons were being made, and took a very ‘heavy toll’ for more than one reason. Is he so jealous that he has to be continually disruptive to the team?

He more than made his money and his career and he should allow others that opportunity.

He needs to be well rid of and his subsequent media comments will define him as much as his terrible reign as AM.

To be fair to John Barnes at least he has never bad mouthed the team in all the subsequent years. I can’t imagine JC being similarly discreet.

  29. traditionalist88 on

Callum McGregor is direct and a threat with both feet and for that fact alone he is technically better than other squad men who have inexplicably jumped ahead of him in the queue after he had regained his place in the team, scored a couple of goals and looked promising, only to drop out again.

We will win the league, but it increasingly feels like it will be in spite of Deila, not because of him.
