Celtic missing the sugar in our tea

427

On the back of Saturday’s result and performance, I didn’t see that draw coming last night. The compensation is that after some better performances and results, evidence remains that we are far from the finished article.

After failing to score I often look for Kris Commons, who has been the sugar in our tea for much of the last five years. For a period, he crafted openings than the rest of the team put together. Injury and illness restricted Kris to five league starts since Christmas, only (also injured) Tom Rogic comes close to being as effective through the middle.

There are simply not enough of the squad likely to pitch up with a goal.

Once Erik Sviatchenko went off injured, the lack of scoring threat was not the only concern. Let’s hope he’s back for Motherwell on Saturday – and partnering Charlie Mulgrew. Motherwell are on their best form in years, five wins-in-a-row. We’ll need to win all the personal battles at Fir Park.

I heard some of it. Interesting that when a “Rangers” fan and one from another team were in discussion she always gave the last word to the “Rangers” fan.

Mind you – that guy from Inverness showed her how far out of her depth she was!

  2. NEVER MIND THE HUNS!!!!

    Any new on Erik’s hammy?

    Noo there’s a worry.

  3. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

The really odd thing about the phone-in was how it was all about the “return” of “Rangers” but with no explanation of how the “same club” managed to be in the fourth division….

  4. So we have Mwell next, then our last league games are against M well, hartz, dundee, sheep, all who have taken points from us lately, well hartz could have, no the best run in for all the nappy wetters

  5. Scott Brown looks completely done now and has been terrible since returning from injury. I can only assume he isn’t fully fit. His passing was always poor but now that he is struggling to get about the pitch and isn’t winning the ball & immediate battles in midfield his lack of other abilities is all too obvious. If he wasn’t continually giving the ball away & conceding stupid fouls you wouldn’t notice he was on the pitch. If he is playing through injury he shouldn’t have went away with the Scotland squad for the two recent friendlies. Either way we can’t afford to be carrying passengers at this time of the season and if he isn’t fit he shouldn’t be playing and if he is fit he needs to sharpen up quick or be dropped.

DessyBhoy – definitely one of the peepul – no doubt at all about that..

Glasstwothirds – that was dismissed as a consequence of going into administration..

Basically she was expecting the phone in to be a celebration of all things rangers oh how we’ve missed them and isn’t it great now that they’re back…

anyone not on board with that was just a trouble maker!

Not read back after yesterday’s game, as I imagine proceedings were carnage-like. I’m sure all that needs to be said, and some not so much has been pounded away on keyboards relentlessly.

Soon time to log off on all media, social and otherwise, as the undead hatred is looming over the horizon.

it’s going to be an odd summer – uberperpetuation of the lie, development of new stories : sevco’s loaded and heading for the CL, the spfl is now a better product, everything’s ok and there are no worries with sevco. In the meantime we’ll have to digest this year, win or lose the league and try and get better players onto the pitch and decide on ronnie ! The anticipation’s gonna be worse than the thing itself- actually hang on !!!!!

  9. Jungle Jim Hot Smoked on

I didn`t think it would bother me when I Sevco were promoted. Now that it has actually happened, I feel sickened by the sychophantic, jingoistic screeching of the SSM that their team is `back`. It reinforces how much Celtic has to overcome in order to succeed and is the main reason I dislike criticism of Celtic on here.

  10. Woo-hoo my friends, that’s ole Jobo off work for the next 279-and-a-bit hours, by the end of which Celtic will be at least 5 points clear (with 5 to go) and be in the final of the Scottish Cup.

Flight to Malaga in 15 hours. Suppose I should really think about packing a case ;-).

Only caught the last half an hour of last night’s game. A few wee flashes from Patrick but a reluctance to shoot from outside the box. Had said to my Bhoy before the Hearts game that I’d be happy with 7 out of the next 9 points. That’s still on.

It has indeed been pretty puke-inducing. Even worse than I would have imagined.

If you were being cynical, you might think there was an insolvency event in the air and the message was being put out in advance that “Rangers” were NEEDED in the top league. For the good of the game, of course…….

    PARKHEADCUMSALFORD

I won’t comment on the match as I didn’t see it. But I think it’s fair to see that successive 0-0 draws with Dundee is short of requirements.

Not that long ago, Griff was banging them in, and he was ably assisted by every other area in the team-apart from the forwards, now, few and far between. We really have to get back into the habit of scoring goals.

*And there’s the crux of the matter. I recall a Celtic side that was in contention for 3 trophies with 1 already in the bag and were scoring goals for fun; we scored 166 goals including 106 in the League when the goals dried up.

In the space of 2 weeks we lost a semi (chicken hearted ref intimidated by the crowd) and a cup (lots of pressure but nae goals).

This was a side that contained 3 of our top ten goalscorers of all time, plus “Side by side with Joe McBride, We’ll kick down Derry’s Walls!”

We’re still in the race for the title but meanwhile on the other side of the toon after a dreadful March where they uncharacteristically lost 2 and tied 2 now buoyed by their cup win they are on our tails.

We head down to the tail of the bank minus the Bear and Joe McGoals who were injured in the cup replay with wee ten thirty and the wee mhan carrying knocks from the robust tackles in the same game, quelle surprise.

Jock tinkered with the side once again and although we pressed relentlessly the home side should have been ahead through a missed penalty.

Then our wee talisman winger who was surprisingly left out of both ECWC semis to accommodate a forward line of Lennox McBride, Chalmers, Auld and Hughes, all predators in their own right, put us in the lead just before half time with a cross that was deflected by the keeper, we’ll take them no matter how they go in.

However, it wasn’t until the last minute when a cross fae the same genius was headed in by Lemon, at last one of our scorers had broken his duck, that secured the points against a side that would concede 84 goals and be relegated after this game.

As we headed back up the Clyde there was no recriminations and calls for our managers head. We were just happy with the win and the points as were now equal with the huns on points, a superior goal average and a game in hand.

4 days later and the game in hand is played against our old but friendly foes the Pars. Jock due more to injuries than choice kept the same side and again a nervous Celts kicked off, sir furious put the Fifers in front however, the same 2 scorers on Saturday combined to give us the win and bearing an almighty collapse at Fir Park our 1st title in 12 years.

So it was off to the steel town on the Saturday, and for the 3rd game in a row we fielded the same side. A huge travelling support is on hand and the game is delayed to let them in, some were on the roof of the enclosure. Although we once again dominated it took a last minute Buzz Bomb goal to secure the points.

And that was how the honest NIAR started with 5 goals in the final 3 games, none of them as spectacular as our last 2 games but still goals.

Incidentally, the first goal scorer in our untainted run of titles was freed at the end of that opening season.

  14. With all due respect Paul67 Im surprised that you never saw that result coming last night , There had been a feeling by a lot on here that we had just turned some kind of corner and things were about to get better !! Honestly dont know what merited that , I really dont. We are piss poor and have been for just about all of Ronnys reign . Dreading the semi final and hope we can stumble on to claim the title but heres a very very scary scenario and a quite possible one…..We crash and burn and blow the title , sevco who are on a high kick us out the cup ( literally ) and we get shafted by res 12 ………………… BIG changes must happen end of season

  15. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Just saw the BBC higlights of last night’s game.

Really good pass from Nir to Leigh which he unfortunately missed. When I saw the replay, I thought Leigh could possibly have taken it with his right foot as the goalie would be expecting him to use his left foot. Leigh has scored good goals with his right foot this season but it may look likeI’m being over critical of Leigh , he has been exceptional this season.

The media overdrive, as expected, about the tribute act is worse than I expected. I had the misfortune to hear two lots of news bulletins on Heart radio at lunchtime. The first article in each was about Sevco being promoted with that runt Doncaster saying how huge this was for Scottish football with four o@@ f@@@ games next season. Aaaaargh . Its a bit presumptious to think they may get into the top six next season or are plans in place to scrap the split.

  16. And might I add to my above post , if we had to choose only one victory in those 3 battles I would want a victory on Res 12 before anything else

  17. Tontine Tim,

There were only 2 points for a win; so the statistics [FWIW] would suggest that a truly great Celtic team[s], with a truly great manager at the helm, didn’t win the Championship at a canter every year.

  21. Fascinating stuff about BBC’s White. Has Radio Scotland given up even trying to act with responsible journalism where the deid team are concerned? I thought their sports department were bad enough but it looks like it has gone into the mainstream. I very occasionally listen the particular programme, although most topics have me switching channels very quickly.

  22. Quite a few comments about Scott Brown since last night.

    Some observations on Brown…..

    – Did he have a poor game last night? Erm yup. Was he the only one? Not by a long shot.

    – Did he complain when he got dumped to right back when our incumbent tripped over his handbag (again). No he got on with it.

    – Is he going through a tough time at the moment? Erm yup. Does he hide? Never

Balance is it key here. Brown is the only player of his type we have. He plays with a passion, for the jersey and is one of the few that protects our back 4. That type of player is absolutely necessary when you want to play the likes of Roberts and GMS.

Our problem isn’t Scott Brown…..it is that we have no one else to help him do this role. Johanson? Biton? Nah you’re ok!

    My tuppenceworth.

unfortunately we will have plenty from our side to welcome them and the “old firm” line , may I suggest Bonner, Desmond for starters, is it any wonder journalists can keep spinning the lie and ignore the truth.

  25. HT did you take off to Lisbon because you feared last night would be a bad one for us? Perhaps the team missed your vocal support.

Nevertheless I hope you both enjoyed the city? I take it for granted that you visited the Estadio. Did you get to the Jeronimos Monastery? Tremendous place.

My first visit there was about and hour before that Glorious Night of 25th May 1967.

Get back for the Motherwell game we need all the support we can muster for the run in.

  26. Parkheadcumsalford on 6th April 2016 7:59 am

    Morning all.

It appalls me that as soon as we suffer the slightest set back, the prophets of doom are out in force to stick the knife in.

By the way, don’t think for a moment that I take the likes of last night too easily. Fitful would be an apt description of my sleep last night. (And Celtic have induced a lot of such nights over many many years.)

*Fully concur here, last night was indeed pathetic but not just the game this blog tae. The usual suspects plus hunterlopers were on. What I can’t understand about the latter was their new side has just been promoted, albeit a 1snottery victory over the lowly sons but still 3 points, and yet they come on here tae gloat.

No matter what happens now I’m predicting that warbo and molly will be for the joe the toff shortly especially after the bonuses they were promised don’t materialise, their families haven’t relocated yet either, and wooly bully mcsleekit will take over with the mullet heading to the pen.

As for us we’ll win the double, I have no fear there and year 2 of the 5 year plan will be successfully completed. Everything is now falling into place with the youngsters coming through, look at how easy our development side won their title and with all young bhoys tae.

It’s no secret that some of the development side won’t make but will probably still have a career in the game. That’s just the way it is.

Looking back since the Quality Street Gang we haven’t had too many youngsters breaking through even though we would win an abundance of trophies.

Personally I can only recall Derek White, Paul McStay, Charlie Nick, Shaun Maloney and Aiden coming into the side and making their mark and of that 5, 4 would eventually leave us for decent money tae.

For me the future augers well and Ronny has made his mark whether he stays or not.

Only too true. I wish others could see what you and I do, especially about the young lhads. I can remember how excited I was about the Quality Street Gang coming through. I am still convinced that they would have been an even better team than the Lions. I have great hopes of the young lhads Ronnie is nuturing. I hope next season to see the likes of Christie and Allan joining Tierney and Roberts. I also have the feeling that Armstrong may well fulfill his potential, if he’s played alongside Rogic.

BBC Scotland is like a Rangers fanzine today, phrases like journey, back, 54 titles and return being thrown about alongside allsorts of made up guff to cover the liquidation recovery myth. They can’t contain their glee and have given up any show of being impartial journalists. Its a supremacist thing.
