Celtic need to learn resuscitation methods

980

Celtic have lost in the game immediately after three of their previous four European games, shipping nine points which could be crucial in determining the destination of the championship, so it was not surprising they were below par for much of the game yesterday.  Fortunately, the Aberdeen goal came early enough to allow Celtic time to raise their game and respond.

How Celtic respond after European games will become even more crucial in the weeks ahead as they have visits to Motherwell, Dundee United and St Johnstone due after our next three Europa League games.  Any slim championship aspirations will be extinguished in these games if Celtic are unable to improve performance for the league challenge.

Ally McCoist is defying early predictions and grinding out impressive results for Rangers, who will seldom have started the league with such an impressive defensive record.  Six away wins from six games without conceding a goal is the kind of form it takes to win leagues.

Our more immediate challengers, Motherwell, dropped two points on Saturday, meaning we can go two points clear of them if we win our game in hand, however, the teams meet at Fir Park a week on Sunday (three days after Celtic play Rennes), in what looks like being a key game in our season.

I have 2 books I’m willing to give away or auction for this cause.

    1) Billy McNeil biog from 1965 Celtic and Scotland

    2) Gerry McNee A History of Celtic

Both books are in amazing condition.

McNee’s book gives a detailed and interesting account of what went on with the players before the Feynoord European Cup Final in 1970.

The foreword is by Desmond White and (for the time) heavily critisises George Graham who ruled the SFA in the 1950s. White mentions Graham’s membership of the Freemasons and fairly lets rip about the bigotry and prejudice Celtic endured at that time.

If someone can point me in the right direction or wants to start an auction for the books let me know via benjybhoy@gmail.com

Many thanks for posting that link——— hard to see Hawk Eye being used in Scotland —–the powers that be seem to prefer One Eye —–

Basic truth about elements within the Italian football media is that if a player is Under 21 and doing well they will ” link ” him with an Italian club [ usually permutations of Udinese / Parma/ Palermo /Napoli and Atalanta. ———– ] Such linkage usually takes this form ——

” Udinese are said to be very interested in Legia Warsaw’s Zbyszeck ” –

They never , ever , say who said it , when they said it or where they said it

    Is Paddy a “Match Winner”?

Absolutely, paddy became our biggest attacking threat in the short time he was on, his spells in possession had the double effect of the opposition not having the ball as well as being worried about Paddys goal threat

  7. The less money HM Government has, the more organisations such as the Earl Haig Fund are relied upon to help ex-Servicemen and women, and their families, overcome physical, emotional and financial difficulties.

It is highly ironic that the organisation which appears to be doing the most it can to starve HM Government of tax funds, and thereby increasing the physical, emotional and finacial difficulties of ex-Servicemen and women is likely to be the one which most loudly proclaims its loyalty to HM Government and her armed forces.

  8. Yesterday Legia played against Widzew. Just before kick off visitor’s fans threw few flares on the pitch and the game started few minutes after time.

Next game we play against same team after tomorrow (Cup).

Today Legia issued statement where they say that due to prohibited won’t be able to buy tickets for the game. Legia sent invitations to schools and told that children under 14 can come and watch the game for free.

Can Celtic do the same when play against Rangers at Celtic Park? I think that would be better than boycott.

  9. Development Squad’s derby draw

By: Laura Brannan on 24 Oct, 2011 16:31

CELTIC’S Development Squad drew 0-0 with a strong and experienced Rangers side this afternoon, (Monday), at Lennoxtown Training Centre.

The young Hoops team consisted of eight players from the Under-19s, Thomas Rogne, a trialist and Dominic Cervi in goals, while Rangers fielded several first-team players including Neil Alexander, Kirk Broadfoot and Juan Ortiz.

Celtic dominated proceedings and were unfortunate not to find a winner, especially late in the second-half when captain, Marcus Fraser, cracked the ball off the post.

But despite being unable to break the deadlock, the home side were strong in defence and Rangers found it difficult to create many chances.

Coach, Stevie Frail was delighted with the result. “I’m really pleased,” he exclusively told the official website. “Rangers fielded a really experienced team with guys like Healy, Alexander, Broadfoot, Fleck, Ortiz and McKay.

“We had nine Under-19s starting the game. It was virtually the team that played against Manchester City last week.

“The only changes were Dominic Cervi who replaced Robbie Thomson, and a trialist who came in for the injured Filip Twardzik. So we were really pleased with the level of performance and the way in which they played.”

He believes a lot of the confidence being showed right now is down to a number of reasons, but mainly from their 4-2 victory in the NextGen Series and the recognition the players have been getting for it at the top level.

“There’s a lot of confidence in the squad,” he said. “Five of them travelled to Rennes for last week’s game and two of them got on to the bench.

“Dylan McGeouch was on the bench on Sunday too against Aberdeen so they’re getting a lot of confidence from that as well.”

And based on this afternoon, and the previous NextGen games, Frail expects the players to take a lot from these experiences.

“Marcus hit the post and Tony had a chance where he chose to pass instead of take the shot. I think we would have deserved the win if we’d got it,” he continued.

“But these games are all about development and their level of performance against top, top players.

“They will take a lot from this afternoon, and it goes on top of not just the Manchester City game but the Marseille and Barcelona games too, even though we lost those.

“They know the level of performance expected of them and they need to keep showing that because there is still another step-up from that level and the first-team.

“Hopefully they can impress the manager enough, and he feels secure enough to put them into his team.”

CELTIC: Cervi; Miller, Fraser, Rogne (Chalmers), Trialist (P. Twardzik); Herron, Irvine, McGeouch, McGregor, George, Watt

My good friend NegAnon2 says the only reason we have NL is because he is cheap??

Possibly true – however this simply exagerates the problem

So we save a £1million on the manager and wate £2.5million on Bangura (or name a couple of players of your chosing)

  16. Evening Celts ……… as I posted last night one of the two scumbags walked into a police station last night and gave himself up, Ard Macha knows what happened to the other bloke I’d say.

My wife (Joe’s cousin) told me tonight that the reason Joe O’Neil was at that taxi rank, was that he was walking two young lassies (over from Greenock…. ex Presidents of the CSC’s daughter) from the pub to the taxi rank, to make sure they get home ok, this was typical of Joe, apparently it was a nothing argument and never came to anything, the two blokes then followed Joe along the road and attacked him. The two lassies never knew anything about it until they got back to Scotland, they’re devastated as Joe was just doing them a favour.

  18. i think celtic should spend money on new players/manager etc. but if we are going to spend money i suggest we sell players as well like paddy for example .. dont get me wrong he is one of my favourite players and i would love to see him playing in a celtic shirt more often but he dosent get a lot of game time for celtic so what isthe point of having him if we are not going to play him it is also unfair on paddy.

The reason that I will not wear one again is due to the Right wing jingoistic media here in England, who have made it a matter of them against us. Their shameful attack on the likes of Jon Snow made me sick.

Theres a constant over the last three years or so and its not the three Celtic managers, its those who’s hands are firmly on the purse strings and not letting go. The next manager will not get the support we expect and the one after him, meanwhile we disappear from the world stage of football, I think under DD and PL there is a long way to drop yet, we need to recognise the root cause of failure IMO.
