CELTIC ON STAND-BY FOR OZ RIVALS

CELTIC are standing by to discover their opponents for Ange Postecoglou’s ‘Homecoming Tour’ in the Sydney Super Cup in November.

Originally, the Hoops were scheduled to meet Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s club before the Ibrox club withdrew from the tournament, as CQN reported in March.

The Glasgow sides were due to play outside Scotland for the first time at the 83,500 seater Accor Stadium, but the Govan club dramatically pulled out of the competition amid claims the champions would be earning more than DOUBLE in appearance money.

THE VENUE…the breathtaking 83,500 Accor Stadium in Sydney.

Postecoglou’s men, Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers have all been left waiting to learn the identity of the replacement team while the organisers have remained strangely silent.

A statement has now appeared on a holding page for the Sydney Super Cup, which reads: “History will be made in Sydney this November in the newly-created Sydney Super Cup. Updated details to be announced soon!”

There is no hint to the name of the fourth club – although Everton have been mentioned in unconfirmed reports – for the tourney that will be special for former Socceroos international boss Postecoglou.

The competition is due to start on November 16 – five days before the World Cup Finals kick off in Qatar.
