I read Wales defender Connor Roberts say “99% of the world” will support Denmark in their last 16 tie tomorrow and thought- the underdog, fighting against the crowd. 99% of the world will not support Denmark, not me, for a start, but the ‘us against the world’ narrative is one of my favourites.
As a rallying call, it is surely more effective than the alternative. Today’s footballer is an immensely well catered for athlete, apart from his 90 minutes on the park and (relatively few) hours on the training field, he will struggle for little. What does he have to fight against, if not perceived ranks of people wanting him to lose?
Beaten, humiliated in Europe, trophy-less, written-off by many among our own, singled-out by the Government. Ange Postecoglou will not have to work hard to convince the players is really is them against the world. This squad really does have plenty to fight against.

Good fun talking about the huns getting humped by anyone but Celtic. Two games I remember well.
I think around 59/60 St Mirren at Ibrox. Heard the saints were winning so up to Ibrox for the last twenty minutes. ( young guns, they opened the gates after 70 minutes to let “fans ?” out) Saints scored again and only 3 guys, in the rain, at the Celtic end giving it “when the Saints”.feqqed off rappid at the final whistle
1960 European cup semi final at Ibrox. After losing 6 in Germany the Ibrox managed to lose another 6 at home. But I couldn’t sing that night
European Final , Real Vs Eintracht In the hun end ( no I am not a hun) Eintracht scored 1st and the huns were all cheering for the Germans until a one footed Hungarian General scored 4 and a baulding Argentinian scored 3. Not a bad game.
Who would think that the Famous Glasgow Celtic would win the cup 7 years later

“The Huns then scheduled a Glasgow Cup tie with PT for Ibrox for the Saturday. We suspected they didn’t want to play us. They had the game postponed until mid May and beat us 1-0”

A team playing out of Ibrox manipulating the fixture calendar unchallenged?
Plus ca change.

You are 100% Kaaarect re: Gornik.
Lubanski was the Bhoy who pumped them single handed.
I recall he also had big role in beating England in WC qualifying in summer 1973 leading to England needing to beat them at Wembley.
Unfortunately he had career-ending injury before the final group game and had been the leader of the team which matured into the great Poland team of 1974.
White was sacked after Gornik H and A hidings and replaced by Waddell. Rumour has it they made an attempt to persuade Mr Stein.
I should have said also that the place is not the same these days without Big Jimmy

……….
NAW im no.
I havent MASTERED the art of being in TWO places at the same time….YET !
LOL.
I was in Ipox Main Stand v Gornik in 1969 with my Da. Davie White was the Huns manager.
Jock Wallace was manager of Leciester between 1978-1982, when he then returned to the Huns.
It was DURING HIS Leciester days as manager that he was “invited” onto the STV Panel to give HIS Views on Huns v Cologne ( I think it was Cologne, but I could be wrong about that ?)…and HE REFUSED to give his opinions on the match cos the Huns had been GUBBED Big time.
You can buy me as many Pints as you like before I fall doon.

Cheers SQUIRE.
I didnt know the info about Lubanskis injury problem etc.
that night in 1969, with me and my Da in the Ipox Main Stand was ” MAGICAL” to me as a young 13 year old going on 14.
Gornik and Lubanski DAZZLED the Huns that night….and I can STILL remember the noise of the ” Crashing” of Ipox seats as thousands of angry Huns left before Full Time…totally gutted and raging.
Me and my Da just kept our Heids doon ….LAUGHING !

One of the best sounds around, big chap, ha ha
.
Ive just watched a 20 second clip on YOUTUBE of Lubanski of Gornik scoring a wonder goal at Ipox on November 26th 1969. in the Cup Winners Cup.
He beat two Hun defenders running from just over the halfway line, and then dribbled around the diving Hun goalie to get to the By Line…He then dribbled past the Hun goal yet AGAIN to make a better angle…and unleashed his shot high into the huns net…
I could be WRONG…But I thought Lubanski scored TWICE that night…no matter ?
hun manager davie White was SACKED the next morning on 27th November 1969…I was about to become 14 years old the next month, and I can remember gloating to my Three Hun pals the next day about Gornik and Lubanski…only ONE of them had been at the game with his Da.
LOL

The mystery deepens , perhaps STV accidentally started Late Call earlier as it would have needed Devine (not Sydney) intervention for a favourable result that evening for the Ibrox mob …

Jesus of Naz was a mini TV Series that was on from around April 1977.
I watched the whole series. Robert Powell was excellent as Jesus..although I have sometimes that having watched and PRAYED with Robert ( Jesus) throughout…either Robert and/or Jesus HIMSELF…could have contacted me in September 1977 to advise me NOT to get married later that month…and to a Proddy ?
I needed Holy guidence…although my Big Da TRIED his best to talk me out of it for weeks beforehand….
LOL

The only ” Mystery” is what team was it that Gubbed the Huns at Ipox LIVE on TV when jock Wallace REFUSED to give his opinions, and all he said was……..and I quote…” Im saying nothing…Im SICK” !
And what YEAR ?
It MAY NOT have been Cologne but it was defo between 1978 and 1982 when Wallace was manger of Leiceter…
so it was AFTER Jesus of Naz on TV ( 1977).
Who started this debate anyway…what poster was it ?
It wisnae ME who started it !
LOL

I remember the Cologne 5-0 game in 1982. That was some team with several of the stars of the World Cup in there.
Game was on live and Dawson got run ragged that night. Don’t remember 1979 game (i-1 at Ibrox according to Wiki) but loved Jesus of Nazareth . Not as good as Roots from that period though

Yes – in the days when good players didn’t all end up at the same half a dozen clubs.

Yes. 1-1 at Ibrox but tie over after visitors took lead leaving that shower needing 3.
Forest beat Cologne in SF 1-0 away after 3-3 first leg.

Didn’t Johnny Doyle score for Ayr United in a win against the huns? Seem to recall that and thought he got a hat trick (that part can’t be right?). I think we were away to Aberdeen or Dundee that day. Then again, I might be talking shite.
