Celtic, or Wales, against the world

597

I read Wales defender Connor Roberts say “99% of the world” will support Denmark in their last 16 tie tomorrow and thought- the underdog, fighting against the crowd.  99% of the world will not support Denmark, not me, for a start, but the ‘us against the world’ narrative is one of my favourites.

As a rallying call, it is surely more effective than the alternative.  Today’s footballer is an immensely well catered for athlete, apart from his 90 minutes on the park and (relatively few) hours on the training field, he will struggle for little.  What does he have to fight against, if not perceived ranks of people wanting him to lose?

Beaten, humiliated in Europe, trophy-less, written-off by many among our own, singled-out by the Government.  Ange Postecoglou will not have to work hard to convince the players is really is them against the world.  This squad really does have plenty to fight against.

    ” A well-spoken, soft accent”…………

I guessed that but why ` pan loaf`? Is it because that is soft?

  2. Uncle Jimmy,

No apology necessary. We all dream the same thing.

Cheers and HH. And HH to you Philbhoy.

I know you are more than a good Tim and I apologise if my post was a bit harsh.

    No harm meant!

We all want the best for our club, bit it may be a bumby ride!

(Matt Hancock had no input in this post!)

You OK? Haven`t seen your Merry Mac style jokes today and I know you are often a bit under the weather.I hope you are just having a wee CQQN break.

  5. Hot Smokie – I’m guessin’ it’s the opposite of the harder / harsher “Plain Loaf” ?

Incidentally, my Blog Name is because of the wonderful Hot Smoked Salmon available here ( Arbroath) rather than to do with the more famous Smokies.

Maybe if the PLC had fought against EBTs, LNS and the 5WA there would be so many of ‘our own’ to fight against.

The Board patsies cynically choose to portray that element of the fan base as entitled. Actually they’re just unwilling to look the other way whilst being cheated. With collusion of ‘their’ club.

All about the money. Fairness and integrity be damned.

  9. One aspect of the press conference I did appreciate, was the steel shown by our new boss.

Some of the lesser names associated with the role, didn’t display similar.

As many will know, I was an actuary in my working life. I love numbers, stats and derivations therein.

My biggest problem is in letting go of the certainty of numbers and trusting in the flawed genius of soccer.

If Shane McGowan was a football club….

  10. To be fair to Hancock.

He adhered to the rules by letting go of the ladies arse just before the 20 minute mark.

Both the new manager and Chief Exec spoke well. Certainly both better than the last two to have these posts.

    That’s excellent. Actually a LOL!

  13. Harry Brady says we’ve sold 45K season tickets, a non renewal of near 8K with 18K on waiting lists. Brady says the Club are confident they’ll sell out with no books going on general sale.

If accurate then the support have shown great belief which we’ll hopefully see paid back in the form of some new signings very soon.

Knocking back £10 million bids for Ajer displays a certain confidence in our financial position. That said, I want all players who want out to be sold this window.

  14. Haven’t seen the press conference from today. Seems the two newbies were impressive.I will seek it out.

Did notice some “news” coming out about THAT video being doctored.

I’m incredulous. If true, that was some feat. Obtaining and editing a video in such a short time and in such a way that it has taken this long for the forensic professionals to be able to detect it.

Alternatively, it wasn’t altered, but it has taken this long for professionals to now edit it so that it can be show in its “original” form.

    The switcherooni is on.

Seems The Hun have plenty on Hancock tomorrow…..but Blojo cant sack a guy ,when he has the same thing for years….

  18. Not posted anything anywhere for ages, but now that we have decided to stay in Glasgow and not return to London, my potential regular bum on seat has become a real possibility. I’ve renewed as planned and have registered for the reduced matchday presence.

Just something stabbing away that perhaps someone a bit brighter than me can blunt.

I’ve registered for one ticket and would expect that everyone would have an equal chance of getting one….say 10/1.

However if you register a group of six and each member of that group does the same do they have a much better chance of getting a ticket (I would calculate the potential improvements in odds but I’ve spent my life providing an excellent income for two bookies – and a brewery, so I’ll leave that calculation to those more qualified).

    The things we worry about…eh??

    Hail Hail my fellow Celts,

I have changed my moniker for 2 reasons:

    1. I could not bear to have Neil Lennon’s name in my old one. I have lost a lot of respect for him as a coach, and since leaving, as a man. However, I do wish him well with whatever is ailing him.

    2. In honour of our new manager who I believe is just the guy we need right now. He will soon weed out the players who are not up for the challenges ahead.

I now have hope in my heart once again.

  20. Completely disagree with the lead article.

You can’t build a campaign of positive football on a siege mentality. It might work for short periods but as a long term strategy its a terrible idea, its unhealthy, it’s draining and it certainly wouldn’t produce good football.

  21. Hail Hail brothers

    David66

.just had a big swally wi John Hynds..light weight..🤣🤣

Missus been singing Blackeberry Smoke all the way home.

    “Aint nothin left”…tune

  22. Ange and dom done ok today and fans conference should be done regularly, bring more togetherness to the club.

Seen some reports ajer unhappy we knocked back 10 million, wonder if he is willing to accept a salary under his worth, If not why would celtic accept less? 2 1/2 months of transfer window left son, you’ll get your move when once Celtic get paid the correct amount. Same goes for christie, eduard and anyone else that wants out

The creation of a siege mentality didn’t do Aberdeen 1979-1984 much harm.

I do agree though that it is ludicrous to argue that we need to create such when we have been willing participants since 2011 in the Keep That Mob Alive WWF SPL charade.

  24. Enjoyed the presser.

Hope it translates onto the park and across the club structures.

Two intelligent guys. Articulate and clear.

Liked what Ange said about urgency to get players. Reference to wingers, speed, energy. He’d have made my day completely if he’d added ‘guys who can defend set pieces’. But rome wasn’t built in a day…..

I’m liking big Ange. Only 4 weeks until the CL. I’m all excited!!!!!

  25. Well we seem to be in no rush to get the ball rolling regards getting rid of the want aways and the ones not good enough for Celtic , and there are still a good few of them within the club . I haven’t viewed the in-house conference today it would likely have been same old same old . Like every other Celtic man ,I want the new coach to be a massive success , same goes for the new CEO although i am cautious of Dom being shown the ropes by the guy who caused us many of our present problems . We need rid of these non triers and pronto , we need incoming quality and pronto . We need a tougher squad than we have had in the past few seasons and a captain who will be a captain like the man who has just left us . So it’s a no from me for Callum great players as he is ,he is not captain material .. can’t forgive him at the start of the season , when broonie was surrounded and being assaulted by six of the scousers Neds McGregor beat a retreat as did a few others . We can carry Callum as a player but we badly need guys who would have waded into them ,players with the bottle to never let that happen again , players who can mix it . Lastly I hope the club continue with in-house media , we need to keep our detractors out of our club . Wish we had head hunted Bernard ponsonby a few years ago . Get him in and never let a player of ours anywhere near a press conference again , he is more than able to control the hacks in this country and he is one of us . HH

    Very good shout re: Ponsonby.

I recall some years ago hearing his booming voice in one of the toilets around 406-408. It was quite disconcerting as he was swearing like a trooper.

He knows the media and most certainly would put up with no nonsense.

For an example Google his “interview” – some would more accurately describe it as an absolute filleting – of Glasgow Airport HaveAGoHero John Smeaton.

He would take no crap off Scottish media filth.

    Regarding the videos

Who can say for sure which video has been doctored ?

I know where my money would be on that one.
