Celtic, or Wales, against the world

597

I read Wales defender Connor Roberts say “99% of the world” will support Denmark in their last 16 tie tomorrow and thought- the underdog, fighting against the crowd.  99% of the world will not support Denmark, not me, for a start, but the ‘us against the world’ narrative is one of my favourites.

As a rallying call, it is surely more effective than the alternative.  Today’s footballer is an immensely well catered for athlete, apart from his 90 minutes on the park and (relatively few) hours on the training field, he will struggle for little.  What does he have to fight against, if not perceived ranks of people wanting him to lose?

Beaten, humiliated in Europe, trophy-less, written-off by many among our own, singled-out by the Government.  Ange Postecoglou will not have to work hard to convince the players is really is them against the world.  This squad really does have plenty to fight against.

    PS – re “that video”

    Are we surprised?

    Police Scotland employ

    – Sevco supporting law breakers

    – Sevco fans who promote lawbreaking

    – Cops convicted of sectarian offences

    – Cops who think we’re “puddle drinkers”

C’mon mate, you know what you’re buying into.

It’s not like you’re buying instant happiness is it? maybe for me it was.

But it’s an emotional involvement with something/someone you love.

It never runs smoothly as I’m sure you know.

If nothing else think of it as a GIRFU to Der hun lol.

Rumours abounding of a video taken back in April ….

…. which shows a member of the cabinet stabbing an aide with a letter opener and following up with a few punches to the head.

Apparently the UK media are going to run with this blatant violation of social distancing rules tomorrow.

When I say what am I buying into I’m primarily talking about getting into games; will we return to local lockdowns again; will we get into a game this year; how will the ballot be done aka like cup finals where thousands of corporate customers appear. Etc etc

Welcome to big Ange and of course to our new CEO Dominic (the real) McKay. Got a feeling that Celtic FC is in very good hands. Seems to be some evidence that pilot events are not contributing greatly to the rise of infections, but they are coming from somewhere, so hopefully we might actually be able to support the team from August onwards. Won’t actually be putting any money on that happening until it does.

The intelligence and judgement of non-executive directors has been topical on here recently.

For some unfathomable reason Gina Coladangelo was motivated to kiss Matt Hancock?

Right Celtic bhoys and ghirls ( DENA ? anyone ) time for dreams about Jinky, Bobby

    big Billy and big ears.

Need some sleep, up early to try and corral two dozen mini roos and make them

into footballers, it’s like herding wild cats lol.

But keep telling them this is the way Jinky does it or pass with your instep like Bobby.

They haven’t a clue who they are but, maybe some mythical ghods who they should

    emulate.

    It works for me.

  13. Listening to the Odd Couple earlier, Cowan was adamant that there was no masonic influence in our game. I suppose that can’t be proved but what about Dallas and his blatant anti-Catholicism, which seemed to be reflected in others in the SFA who got minor reprimands while he got a top job at UEFA.

  15. I have often said, in the face of predictions that the lower tier only would be opened this season, that renewals would be at a bigger level than predicted and that the boycott would be lower scale than some thought.

Some of those who predicted a larger boycott bought intot the echo chamber of social media and over-read the numbers based on the number of people promising/threatening to renew. Some are even calling out renewers as traitors and quislings but, for the majority of non-renewers, the decision was a personal one.

The main reason any boycott fails is the lack of organisation, sharing of aims, and strategising of a campaign- the old fashioned Organise, Unionise & Plan approach. Nowadays, we think sharing a few words on Social Media will carry a campaign to victory. That is a rare occcurence.

I am not offering any triumphalism for the renewers like myself. There is much that needs fixing in our club where a CEO was remunerated at a level above his responibilities just to compensate him in his role as a lightning rod for unpopularity. Our status as a plc, open tp the whim of hostile takeover, is another huge concern and one where change cannot be effected quickly.

I am, on the whole glad, that we got sufficient renewals to be able to mount a league challenge but I hope it is not the end of mutual fan engagement with the club to keep valued Celtic traditions alive. I want a change of philosphy more than a superficial change of personnel.

  16. My friends in Celtic,

My daughter is in Murryfield and has sent me photos of them having a drink.

End blatant discrimination and let us have a drink at the football.

What is worrying is how out of touch with the mainstream support some Celtic groups are.

‘From memory when Ferguson had a go at Fallon who was lying on the ground, Jim Brogan “stepped in and resolved the matter” to Celtic’s general satisfaction’

Someone needs to explain to me exactly what the benefits of the masonic brotherhood is if it is not to gain influence in all walks of live for their own gains for it’s own people? Seems public life is littered with these secret society types.

celtic fc is a scottish club that proudly proclaims its irish routes and draws support from those of a similar ilk and others who are more fair minded and open.

Easy answer is simple, declare all memberships I.e. orange order, masons, KO st Columbus etc, what team you support, grew up supporting etc. If nothing to hide why hide anything?

Scotland has more anti irish racism than it cares to acknowledge, preferring to use the term sectarian, to blame the minority group and to criminalise political expression. at the same time it is endorsing racists singing songs of hate on our streets and in stadiums up and down the country.

Reasoned and fair…..difficult to find as much currently, seems one has to be permanently outraged or have to grumble just to stay relevant. That’s the problem with twitter for example, have to post frequently to stay relevant. Good, original content limited.

Read the boycott of merch was one of the proposals….have they seen the Adidas Celtic training gear? 😍💚

  22. From the footage of our limited squad back in training, it just looked like mainly young boys. I don’t think I saw wee Dembele but maybe just not in the clips available. Any new players, will of course have to quarantine, depending on where they’re coming from. Given we haven’t qualified for the CL groups stages, the last three times (is it?) I’ve virtually written that off. While it will still be a tough tie, beating Midtjylland would (so I’ve read) gaurantee group stage football in one of the competitions. Hoping the Scottish contingent are back after a week or so. It’s not as if they’re going anywhere on holiday is it😎 and they’ll still be sharp from the Euros.

  23. It’s peculiar that the one person you’d want leading a rally against the world is lennie – however we couldn’t muster a fart in a breeze last season. Culture in an organisation is a big deal.

*aye it takes a lot for me tae have a go at Celtic supporters or should I say alleged supporters, but the constant bitchin from some on here including lambeg 1690 is really wearing thin.

I’m no in the camp of “yes sir, no sir, 3 bags full sir” but we have a new management team now so let’s get behind them.

Big Gas Meter will leave the building, although not completely, in 4 days time. He is being retained due tae his involvement in Europe which can only benefit us.

We have worked hard for representation while the craft opened the door for the sectarian bonkle bigot to influence the officials, he should have been hounded after his comment concerning child abuse.

They tried really hard tae get ebt ogilvie in a position there, unfortunately for them his lyin, cheatin, thievin surprisingly got in the way, so we should just be glad we have some form of representation. IMHO he would make a good sfa ceo but I suppose that’s just a step too far.
