Celtic Park home advantage made clear

143

A friend who has been to a few American football games told me about a difference in crowd behaviour there, compared to our own game.  Here, a home crowd gets noisy during an attack by their team.  In American football, the home crowd noise peaks when the visiting team have the ball.  Their focus is to disorientate the visiting players in possession.

Think back to the Leipzig game a few weeks ago.  Leipzig are a composed side in possession and very capable of playing out from the back.  In the final seconds of the first half, however, seven Celtic players and 60,000 fans completely disorientated them.  They were unable to think clearly, or act as a team.

Together, we hounded the ball off them.  The noise fuelled Celtic players and destroyed Leipzig’s.  Even after Celtic won the ball back, Greg Taylor was able to point tell Reo Hatate where to put the ball, with no defender able to react.  It was an extraordinary few seconds of play, which perhaps determined the outcome of the game.

With that game fresh in his memory that this week, Alistair Johnston spoke about Champions League nights at Celtic Park.  “When you walk out there and you hear that anthem, the noise that the fans make is almost inhumane. It’s guttural and animalistic in a way, just the scream when the Champions League anthem happens.

“You can see it with the other team, the reactions when they hear it for the first time.

“You can just see what it gives that power to the players, that extra level of sprinting and just everything that they give to the game.”

For 23 years in this competition we have typically been productive at home and ineffective away.  Celtic Park performances truly are a team effort, all 60,011 of us are required.  When Brugge are in possession tomorrow night, let them know why Celtic Park is such a difficult place to visit.

  1. Well, that was all fine and entertaining, but the real stuff starts in twenty-two hours.

    ` night, all.

  2. Well well well. Two 3-3 results both of which favour Celtic but neither of which I predicted.

Dons couldn’t catch us and now we have a game in hand on them and City lose a three goal lead giving us an opportunity to leapfrog them tomorrow if we can produce a productive result. All to play for.

    Neither result helps Celtic.

Feyenoord have easier games to come and could catch us. They are more of a rival.

Unlikely we will end above city.

Dons losing lead v rangers is frustrating. Follow Follow are delighted. Dons would never threaten us but our Glasgow rival would lose out massively if they don’t get a chance at CL qualification

  5. Thanks for the spoilers ghuys lol…no need to watch Sportshun

All I know about Brugge is that they beat Villa away and thumped their league opponents at the weekend. We’ll need to be at our best tomorrow…based on nothing but opTIMism am going for 3-1 ;-))

  6. OJ…please don’t reference me in your exhausting diatribe…you should try citing some responsible sources for your claims ;-))

  7. Aberdeen’s balloon is not burst, but it is deflating.

Lose to Hearts and us in the next two and that would be thirteen points blown, then I would say it is burst unfortunately.

It can be fixed but a repaired balloon is not reliable and does nothing for confidence. HH

  8. Results were great for us tonight.Win,and we leapfrog a lot of big hitters. We will be on 10 points, joint 3rd on 10 points.Depending on goal difference, what place we will fill.

    Juve v Villa,Liverpool v Real,tomorrow.

    We desperately need this win.

  9. BRRB…yer hoose?…hav you achieved yer dream of the Guiness world record of being banned from every pub in Glasgow…congrats mate ;-))

  10. Have to laugh at the scum, jubilant that Aberdeen took a draw tonight.

As if they are not going to drop points.

    Shortly.

I am looking forward to tomorrow night’s game not next February.

Tonight’s draw down at the Etihad favours us in the sense that if we win, we go above City in the league and at the same time remain in front of Feyenoord, by three points instead of one after four games. who knows how those teams will do in the future, Pep doesn’t that is for sure.

As for the Dons result, they remain behind us in the SPL having played a game more than us, that favours us in our challenge for the SPL title. That favours Celtic FC.

  12. Turkeybhoy…they’re going through a sticky patch after we destroyed them…they’ll bounce back

  14. Burnley,

The problem with Iwata with us,is the same problem,Bernardo and Engels have.Calmac.

He is a ball monster. He is on the left, right, middle.I say this in a good way.Very difficult for midfielder to keep changing their positions, angles, when Calmac is all over the midfield, running the show.Hatate stays out his road as often as he can.Takes many ,many, games to fit into the midfield and continually look good, when Calmac is dominating everything.Superhuman the boy.

    that could be it

Its a tough team to just walk in to

Hatate, Bernardo & Scales have had to spend a good deal of time on the sidelines

Taylor was lucky we had no other player to compete with him and grew into the role (not without his haters – he’s too wee etc etc)

Khun & daizen both took time to warm up and find their feet in the team (and daizen flip flops in and out of form – but when he is o it, he is on it)

Players have bounced straight into the team

AJ, Kyogo (although he has blown hot and cold recently), did CCV or was he lucky like wee greag taylor there as no one to compete with

Trusty has overcame a shaky start (not defensively, more with his distribution and confidence with the ball at his feet, see scales)

McCowan has looked great in the small cameo’s he has been allowed

Palma blows hot and cold, but lacks pace

Tough team, we should be recruiting for mentality as much as skill now
