Celtic player luxury not afforded to Maribor

678

While Ronny Deila rested 10 players ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League play-off decider, Maribor changed only four players for their 3-0 win over Zavrc, who were three points ahead of them on the Slovenian league.  Wednesday’s goalscorer, Bohar, was replaced midway through the second half, while Tavares came on for the last 10 minutes.

Whatever regrets Ronny has over yesterday’s defeat he’ll get over it when he sees a dressing-room full of players who have rested and trained appropriately all week.

Re the Palestine flags. What will Celtic’s punishment if Uefa deem celtic supporters hoisting of the same flags on Tuesday?

Gary Hooper was signed by Celtic as a £2 million striker and subsequently sold for £5.5 million.

Just because we sign a striker for £2 million, it doesn

If in the town no problem, I’ll be up for that.

Man U 1-0 …low ball into the six yard box…wee Bobby Lennox swore by that strategy.

Surely you cannot be fined for flying “inappropriate flags” I see foreign flags at loads of grounds on telly and Celtic park.eg Swedish and Bulgarian for the like of Henrik and stan

Reading back re Lennons passion/HT,expense,effort and logistics of fans travelling to Inverness yesterday for that performance and Rons team selection.

I made my views on that known yesterday. If ever there were positives to be taken from a defeat then yesterday was that day.

Players will benefit from the rest for a season defining match on Tuesday night. Just as importantly Ronny will now have a much better idea of who to keep, loan or(if he can) punt on as he will now have an evidence base to justify those decisions. All those who played yesterday from the 1st team squad should be capable of defeating ICT. Ronnie did not send out a team with the intention of seeing them defeated. Yesterday was a sore one to take but the decisions re team selection were merited from so many different perspectives.

On Lennys Passions point EVERY match for those supporters travelling from Ireland is an AWAY match and the same for those travelling the length and breadth of the Country/Countries to follow the famous Glasgow Celtic.

Whoever pulls on the Hoops should recognise the privileged position that they are in and put in the requisite effort. Ronny will have learned a lot from yesterday which will not only benefit us on Tuesday but could very well shape the rest of our season with incomings and outgoings.

Does it not tell us, the scouting Dept is not working ? Outwith the odd exception

Fraser Forster, was spotted by Alan Thomson, whilst he was at Newcastle, Gary Hopper, was both Lennon and Parker! Whilst Lustig was Mjalby, all allegedly

I personally believe our Scouting Dept, is one of the major failures within the Celtic set up, and is costing us a fortune in mistakes or poor decisions

Is the loans we have now questioning that set up ( most certainly hope so)

    Just my personal opinion

    Harrumph,

Paris prices have obviously increased a wee bit since I was there last; when you could treat a red-haired woman on a blue bike to a fine meal and a bottle of wine, for two empty ginger bottles…. or wis it a blue-haired woman on a red bike….?

Anyway, any other hotel suggestions por favor/si’l vous plait/gonnie?

  10. Big FF was a loan signing, I do recall the were plenty on here horrified when we took him on for a 2nd season.

KC had a brilliant first season, was dire in season 2 (other than the dink in the last ever game v the deid team), brilliant in season 3, now in his 4th……..

I don’t think RD has written him off, it was just tactical reasons he correctly preferred Kayal on Wednesday.

  11. BSR

For what its worth – I tipped Stefan Scepovic on the blog pre-Pukki signing.

I asked TET about him as I had been told by Spanish friends he was worth looking at. TET seemed to think he was quite prolific, on fairly low wages and worth a punt.

Will interesting to see where this one goes!

I’d imagine it might be a fairly serious punishment given that we have been sanctioned a few times already. Also because it is a game in their premier tournament.

Not a problem mate. In my experience, Paris is feckin’ expensive for accommodation. Always has been. You can pay a lot and get very little, or you can get value for money if you shop around. That place I was in was reasonable (I thought) for a Friday night in the centre.

  15. Cowiebhoy

I’ve had this conversation with paulo’sboots , how many loan signings have we wasted money on over the years , if you printed the amount of players and the wages we have squandered its frightning hopefully we have learned .

    As you say

more to the point , who is highlighting these guys as celtic quality , the deadwood we’ve got should maybe include scouts too

    Imo ;)

  16. Marspapa

Thanks for the reply. Like any organisation we have to define a more sustainable retention strategy than we currently have we’re the proposition is weighted too much in creating a margin rather than building sustainable success. Easier said than done but we re too reactive and too prone to recycling a new strategy.

Cowiebhoy – same point as me. Scouting looks majorly flawed and needs overhauled. Not one of Ronnys hot spots since he has come from more humble clubs. Who is looking ?

  17. Great game of GAA going on at the moment.

Lunacy selling a player who doesn’t want to play for us for £12m plus sell on ????

  19. Again, just a personal opinion

PL’s faith or trust in John Park is a very real Major Contributing factor to where we find ourselves with the squad on players we are now mostly questioning.

Park was brought to Celtic as a talent spotter, and creating stars for the future, 5 – 6 years down the line, where are they ?

    Did you get interrupted;-)

I think I know what you were going to say.

My point is we are in not just a difficult, but a virtually broken market.

For every Gary Hooper there are multiple Mo Bangura’s.

We accept this, and try again.

    Praecepta

He’s certainly prolific at Gijon having been around the block a few times. I think 3.4m is this years equivalent of what we paid for Balde and Pukki.

  21. Praecepta

Hope and pray your right, if so, I want you to apply for John Parks role :-)

  22. Interestin that Sally is being linked to the Palace job. Linked from whom? In the last 14 years, every time we have a successful manager he gets “linked” to mid table EPL or Championship jobs.

Not usually the case with diedco/sevco and i’m not sure he can be described as a successful manager.

So who’s linking him with the job and why?

  23. paolosboots FC before PLC on

Marspapa, hope you are well, as we have discussed there’s potentially £90m now with FF money and with another £20m+ from CL if we can qualify on Tuesday then hopefully that buys a degree of stability and time for RD.

He seems to want to build an indoor astro facility they don’t come cheap think I saw Toryglen at £17m not cheap. As BT says we need to reconnect between fans & team which has been removed with Lennoxtown. My suggestion if RD is going down this route is build it at Barrowfield and have the team train whenever weather prevents outdoor training at Lennoxtown but always fridays to get the connect back!

At Ravenscraig you to can have a few hundred spectators; so any reserve games we can have fans pay nominal fee to watch and arrange that we have an option on the mornings. Possibly do a deal with GCC (PL has them in his pocket dont you know :-) add another amenity part funded to the East End its a win win then open it up to public to use to offset the cost to Celtic & the GCC. Just a thought.

Re Hungarian official. I was being a bit ironic but u rammed it home. Fair play to you. Although st Ettiene did think we got a good help from the official in 68. I think most of us did too when we overcame a 2 nil defecit to win 4. 2. On agg

  25. Bobby Murdoch Curled Up

I wish I knew the easy answer but buying mod priced players from under achieving clubs to appease customers who seem to see spending as a virility symbol because the daily record or radio Clyde says so seems to be not right to me.

We knee jerked and bought derk bo last year. In a market where there was no value.

You are right the strategy needs reworked for sure.
